Eagle Strike Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
For me, the term “Eagle Strike” conjured up all sorts of mind-imagery, and I was surprised to discover that I may not be quite as big of a geek as I once thought! Indeed, for me personally, the expression “bird of prey” refers to animals like the Crow, Hawk, Vulture, Falcon, or Eagle. Yet, Wikipedia has determined that such a definition falls a distant second behind the superhero franchise bearing the same name. I can’t help but grin at the prospect of future Historians attempting to understand our bizarre colloquialism a century from now, trying desperately in vain to work out the logic behind our memes – I wonder what conclusion they will come up with? I feel reasonably confident that they aren’t going to be able to work out the reason why we found these things so funny, and should they ever find a way to communicate with their contemporary ancestors regarding this, I again suspect that most of us will also fail to offer up any semi-logical explanation for our frankly off-the-wall humour that has taken centuries to develop within individual countries.
But it isn’t all Doom and Gloom! The scattered “Strike Nuggets” return 1,000x, 250x, or 50x each time such a group drops into view. I’d be happy enough with those prices if they were tied to the main bonus round scatters, but sadly they are not; good payouts or not, the fact there are multiple scatter symbols on the reels is almost always a bad thing in my book, so don’t expect any additional free spins on top of your free spins if these symbols do show up on the screen. All of the symbols (except the scatters and wild symbols) are stacked on the reels in the Eagle Strike slot game, which would be completely fine if it was just the bonus-trigger scatter symbols but seems way on the tight side as far as the wild symbols are concerned. As this is a “rolling reels” game, however, this also means that it is theoretically possible to catch the odd stack of wilds every now and again. I never saw any stacked scatter symbols, however, unfortunately.
Most online slots opt to kick off their paytable with the big wins first, but I guess Iron Dog must have felt like throwing us a little curveball today! The Strike Nugget is shown at the bottom of the paytable with a payout of 1,000x, 250x, and 50x for five, four, or three symbols. Directly above, we have the “Golden Nugget” symbol, which is mysteriously labelled with no indication of its purpose or value, and then the wild falcon who stands in as the wild symbol in Eagle Strike online slot. The regular symbols mostly have payouts for just two-of-a-kind, with the lion topping the list at 50x your bet for five-of-a-kind, deer at 40x for all five, and the bull at 30x. It’s a short list of high-paying symbols – no question there – and with twice as many royal symbols, it’s hard not to get the impression that you will see far less high-paying combinations than low ones.
The betting range begins at €0.10 per spin and maxes out at €50.00 per paid spin, which should be a big enough range of bets to suit even the most degenerate online slot players!
Base Game & Modifiers
Regular gameplay offers few surprises in the Eagle Strike slot game, with a 5×3 playfield spanned by 243 pay ways, meaning that all you need to do is hit two or more matching symbols from left to right to land yourself a win. Wild and Expanding Wilds help to break up the usual base game action nicely, whilst a variety of mods and features hide the largest wins the game has to offer behind what you could call a “luck firewall”. Fight your way past this, however, and you are in for a treat!
Tumbling Wins
Some developers call this payout mechanic “Rolling Reels”, whilst others refer to it as avalanches or “Tumbles” – that’s Iron Dog’s preferred description of the feature. Still, it works just the same as it does in Microgaming or NetEnt’s implementation of the feature.
Winning combinations are immediately removed from the reels to allow new symbols to drop in from the top of the screen, potentially creating gaps that will assist new winning combinations to form from a single paid spin. The tumbling wins feature will continue to repeat until no more winning pay ways appear on the screen, after which you’ll have to pay to spin the reels again if you would like another shot at a winning payout!
Golden Nuggets
The golden nugget symbol can appear anywhere on any reel, but you will need six of them on the screen simultaneously to begin the Strike Nuggets feature. Any nuggets which fall into view as a consequence of the tumbling wins feature removing previous winning hits from the reels will contribute towards this feature, making it a little easy-“er” to hit, but don’t kid yourself that it will be a common occurrence – I only managed to land six golden nuggets four times during a significant period of playtesting!
Eagle Strike Slot Free Spins Feature
And finally, the big one! Three, four, or five scatter symbols will award eight, 12, or 20 free spins, respectively, and you can even retrigger this feature by hitting three, four, or five further scatter symbols during the bonus for a boost of four, six, or ten additional free spins.
Although there aren’t any multipliers or other dramatically beneficial upgrades to the bonus round, there is one major twist in that strike nuggets – those symbols that appeared on the paytable with zero further explanation – can gain a little value here if they happen to land on reels where prizes are shown directly above them on the main reel set!
The maximum win during the free spins feature is capped at 5,100x your stake, after which any remaining spins will be forfeit, and your bonus round will be automatically stopped regardless of how much longer your feature was meant to go on for.
Eagle Strike Slot Review Final Thoughts
Well, this is a tough one! I initially believed that this was little more than a clone slot that had borrowed many ideas from other online slots. Still, the truth is that Eagle Strike is more of an evolutionary take on games such as Eye of Horus rather than just a blatant clone that utilises a different theme. There are big wins to be had, lots of features to look forward to, and all of it is presented with the same Triple-A grade presentation that Iron Dog has become known for. If high variance slots are your bag, you’d be mad to miss this one!
