Easter Luck Slot (Mascot Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

Whenever I see an ultra-cutesy online slot such as Mascot Gaming’s Easter Luck, I can’t help but wonder who the target demographic is supposed to be. I guess the most likely answer must be women in the 18-30 age bracket, but even male players like myself are usually happy to play any slot regardless of theme if it offers an attractive combination of features, RTP, and jackpot prize. How does Easter Luck stand up regarding those vital statistics then? We’ve got 3,600 pay ways created by the game’s unusual diamond-shaped reel layout, a slightly below-average RTP of 95.2%, and a maximum jackpot of 1,300x the player’s total bet.

So far, I can’t say that things are looking great – a jackpot of that size is far lower than that offered by every other game that I play on a regular basis, and the below-average RTP could also be a major concern for some players. On the (major) plus side, we do get expanding sticky wild symbols on reels two through five, which award a free re-spin every time they appear on the playfield. I even saw the game produce four full stacks of wilds on one occasion whilst testing the game for this review, suggesting such combinations are not as unlikely as I would have suspected.

I’m not entirely sure if I’ve ever seen another game that offered “expanding sticky wild re-spins” before – it’s a fantastic feature, but the big question is whether it will be enough to prop up the rest of the game for the average player. I guess you ought to check out our free demo slot Easter Luck for yourself now – it’s available to play below, and doing so is the only way to know if for sure if it’s enough for you.

Easter Luck Slot Paytable
Easter Luck slot paytable

I find it really quite strange that I barely even noticed Easter go by this last year! Most years, I’ll make sure to buy myself at least a couple of my favourite eggs; this year, however, I just seemed to miss the event entirely. That’s not so unusual, but I’ll tell you what most certainly is – I only spotted two other online slots with the word ‘Easter’ in their titles in our review library! Those were Eastern Emeralds Megaways (well, I guess it’s “kind of” in there) and A Winter’s Tale. Hmmm, I’m not sure what’s happening with that last one, but I think the point is that there seems to be a dire lack of Easter-based slots – unless we’ve also been missing those too! If you really did want to play an Easter-themed slot, then, I guess you wouldn’t have too many choices; on the bright side, this one – Easter Luck – is well-presented, bright, and colourful. It’s just a shame that the jackpot is a little on the low side.

Games with huge numbers of payways typically suffer from heavily restricted payouts on their paytables. It’s obvious, really – if it’s theoretically possible to win on thousands of payways simultaneously, there is no way for a developer to attach anything significant to even a six of a kind win. The more valuable symbols in this game feature various coloured eggs – there’s a pink/blue one with a top payout of 3x the total bet, a fluorescent green one at 2x (appetising!), and one that almost looks like it’s on fire at 1.7x for all six symbols. At the bottom end of the table are four animal symbols – a frog at 0.5x, a dog(?) at 0.3x, a rabbit at 0.3x, and a sheep at 0.24x for a six of a kind combination.

The minimum/maximum permitted bets offered in Easter Luck are €0.50 and €50.00 per round, respectively. I can live with that, even if the minimum is a little on the high side for those with smaller bankrolls, but only offering five other bets in between this huge bet spread is just inexcusable.

Base Game & Modifiers

Easter Luck Base Game
Easter Luck base game

The playfield used in Easter Luck features six reels; reels one and six have three symbols, reels two and five have four symbols, and the middle two have a full five symbols. This creates a diamond-shaped reel set and explains how the game gets its unusual payway count of 3,600. There are only seven different symbols on the reels plus the wild, which helps you win more frequently and increases your chances of lining up matching symbols on either side when you have lots of wilds in the centre of the reels.

Wild Symbol With Free Respin

Because there are no other special symbols on the reels of Easter Luck, the wild really does substitute for all other symbols in this game. The wilds are present on reels two, three, four, and five; irrespective of how many are on the screen, they will expand immediately after landing to cover the entire reel where they land. When this occurs, the game will award a free re-spin which can repeat if additional wilds land during it.

Easter Luck Bonus Features

Easter Luck Respin Feature
Easter Luck Respin feature

There’s no full-on bonus round included in this game, which seems like a bit of a missed opportunity – I’m sure a little bit of RTP could have been found for something simple such as a simple free spins feature.

Nevertheless, the expanding sticky wild symbol feature present in the base game does act as a bonus of sorts – it’s certainly possible to win much more from it than any old regular spin! As I said in the opening paragraphs though, it’s going to be up to individual players to decide if that one feature is enough to hold their interest.

Pros

  • Sticky and expanding wild symbols? You can’t argue with that!
  • Possible to win on lots of pay ways simultaneously.

Cons

  • No full bonus round – you only get a base game with a great mini-feature, and that’s it.
  • Jackpot is relatively small at only 1,300x the total bet.

Final Thoughts

Mascot got quite a few things right with this release – it sure is a nice-looking slot, even if it is a tad on the “cutesy” side for my tastes. The sticky wild feature combines lots of things into a great mini-feature, but it’s just a shame no bonus round was included as well – if that feature had been included in a longer free spins round, it would make for a hugely exciting bonus. Who knows, maybe in the sequel? I will just add to this review that if you wanted to play a slot with a similar style of bonus, then I'd suggest taking a look at Big Time Gaming's space-themed slot Starquest Megaways.
