Game Overview

The graphics of Egyptian Tombs are all new, but the underlying mechanics of this slot appear to be mostly identical to another Snowborn game I have previously reviewed named “Legend of the Sword”. For a start, this is another scatter-pays game which means there is a secondary paytable that awards wins of between 2x and 10,000x the current stake for hitting between five and ten Scarab scatter symbols. The similarities continue with the 5×5 grid size, 3,125 pay ways, and the RTP of 96.18% – just a tiny bit higher than that of Legend of the Sword. The two games are so similar that I was unsure what might account for that slight difference in RTP.

I didn’t need to wonder for very long, however; a quick look at the paytable revealed a bonus wheel which contains several segments with generous rewards, exceeding those offered on the wheel in Snowborn’s earlier machine. That bonus wheel precedes the primary bonus round and awards between 8 and 50 free spins. The spins can then be retriggered, and you can even trigger an augmented variant of the bonus, which contains additional high paying symbols.

It seems that we have a similar game to previous slots from Snowborn then, that is certainly not a simple clone – you can explore our free demo slot of Egyptian Tombs and discover the differences for yourself if you wish:

Paytable For The Egyptian Tombs Slot

Slot developers love ancient Egypt, don’t they? Where are all the games based on ancient Iraq or Brazil? Actually, those may be poor examples… there are plenty of slots based on the Mayan civilisation, for instance, and I can probably find more than a handful set in the ancient lands of Mesopotamia if I tried to. Returning to Egypt once more, the trend for this style of game most likely began with IGT’s original Cleopatra slot. Over the years since Cleopatra, there have been dozens of fantastic games based on ancient Egypt, including one of my favourites – Legacy of Egypt from Play’N’Go.

I was interested to see how the paytable of the Egyptian Tombs video slot compares with the earlier Snowborn game Legend of the Sword. The secondary scatter paytables of the two games are identical, including the minimum and maximum payouts of 2x and 10,000x for five or ten scatter symbols, respectively. There are several differences when it comes to the other symbols, however, starting with the wild symbols, which pay 10x the current bet for each complete pay way of five-of-a-kind. Lady Cleopatra is the highest-paying regular symbol and has a return of 10x your bet for all five, followed by a bird hieroglyph which pays 7x, then cat and human hieroglyphs, both of which return 4x each. There are four low-paying symbols too, but all four pay 0.8x your bet for a full pay way – nothing too exciting there.

The wagering options felt eerily familiar – a minimum bet of €0.20 for each round, with a maximum of €24.00 for those who enjoy risking a little bit more on each spin. From my point of view, even €24.00 is way too big a bet to be making 20+ times a minute, but I understand that some players do feel differently – I guess they are richer than I am!

Base Game & Modifiers

Win Up To 10,000x Your Bet In The Egyptian Tombs Online Slot From Provider Snowborn Games

If you are already familiar with Snowborn’s Legend of the Sword, you will be immediately at home spinning Egyptian Tombs. It’s a 5×5 reel set with all pay ways available, which means 3,125 possible ways to get from the left side of the reels to the right.

Unfortunately, because this game features two sets of scatter symbols – the primary set that triggers the bonus round and the second set that awards the scatter prizes – you are likely to have at least one or two of these symbols blocking many potential pay ways on every single spin. You will have to decide if the possibility of winning the scatter prizes makes this a worthwhile trade off!

Scatter Prizes

A symbol representing Ra’s eye is the secondary scatter in Egyptian Tombs and has the potential to award the game’s maximum jackpot at any time during both the base game and the free spins feature.

Hitting five symbols will pay you 2x your stake, whilst 5x, 10x, 100x, 1,000x, and 10,000x prizes are available for hitting six, seven, eight, nine, or 10 Ra symbols, respectively.

Egyptian Tombs Slot Bonus Features

Land 3 Scatter Symbols To Trigger The Free Spins Feature On Egyptian Tombs Video Slot

The primary bonus round is a free spin feature that can be triggered by hitting three Scarab beetles on reels one, three, and five. This will take you to the bonus wheel, where the specifications of your feature will be decided.

After the bonus is triggered, the bonus wheel can award anywhere between 8 and 50 free spins. If you are lucky enough to re-trigger the bonus whilst free spins are in play you will be returned to the bonus wheel to determine how many additional spins you will receive.

Super Spins Feature

The game does not make clear how this special version of the bonus round is triggered, which is quite frustrating, actually! I was not able to trigger this mode whilst I was testing the game, but I did manage to find out a little more about it.

Checking the help files reveals that there will be a special symbol draw at the start of the super spins feature to decide on a “booster” symbol. The special symbol can be the Ra, Horus, or Cleopatra symbol, and whichever ends up being selected will have many additional symbols added to the reel set in the upcoming bonus round.

After every super spin, any special symbols present on the reels will be converted into wilds before your winnings are evaluated. It sounds like the super spins should be much more valuable than the regular spins, but I was unable to confirm this through play, unfortunately!

Egyptian Tombs Slot Review Final Thoughts

In my opinion, the look and feel of this game are much more interesting than Legend of the Sword, and the feature set looks as if it should be a lot more fun. It’s a shame that the bonus rounds are not adequately explained on the paytable or in the help files – even a bonus buy facility would have helped to test all areas of the game properly. I enjoyed my time spinning this slot, though, and I hope I will unlock the secret of the super spins at some point in the future!
