If you were to put screenshots of this game and its predecessor side-by-side, it would be difficult for the uninitiated to tell the difference between them. You have the same 5×3 grid of skull symbols, with a similar graphical appearance, and an almost indistinguishable soundtrack. You might even play a short session of Esqueleto Explosivo 2 and notice no real difference between the game and its predecessor if you failed to hit a free spins feature.
Where seasoned players of the original will certainly notice a difference is in the paytable – the increase from 20 to 99 lines has required a dramatic reworking of the math model behind Esqueleto Explosivo 2, such that the top symbol is now only worth 5x your stake for five of a kind. Symbols are stacked on the reels, but a 5×3 grid leaves only 243 possibilities – and remember, this is not a pay ways game, there are 99 fixed lines. Don’t be surprised if some of your wins seem a little on the low side, despite how things look on the screen – below that maximum 5x stake win the remaining skulls drop straight to 2.5x, 1.4x, and 1.2x, before dropping below your wager. Multiply 5x by the top 32x multiplier though, and you have 160x your stake – a few lines at that price can achieve a very reasonable win indeed!
The betting range on Esqueleto Explosivo 2 is one of the widest I have ever seen – you can bet as little as €0.10 per spin or as much as €100.00 per spin. That’s a spread of 1,000x., but don’t expect every casino to offer bets at the top of this range as it could result in a payout of half a million euros.

The base game in Esqueleto Explosivo 2 is much more exciting than the original game. Like before, you’ll want to keep a lookout for the Explosivo Wild symbol as it will clear a 3×3 zone directly around itself, allowing for better winning combinations to form on the reels. There’s much more this time around, however:
Expanding Wild Feature
Each time a wild forms part of a winning combination, it will expand to cover the remainder of the reel it landed on. Sometimes there might be four symbols on that reel, multiplying your win by four. On other occasions, it can vary anywhere from two to six symbols. When wilds occur on multiple reels at once, it is possible to score very large numbers of winning combinations from a single spin.
Mucho Multiplier Feature
Each time you score a winning combination in Esqueleto Explosivo 2, you will progress along the multiplier bar at the bottom of the screen. This increases in powers of two, rather than just by one each time – for example, after 4x comes an 8x multiplier, and after 16x comes the 32x multiplier – the maximum during the base game.
Explosivo Wild Multiplier Boost Feature
Unlike the original game, the wild symbol also causes your multiplier to increase as well. This makes it much easier to get to the upper levels of the multiplier bar, where the biggest wins can be found.

If this was a review of the original game, it would end more or less right here – there was no bonus round or free spins feature. Thankfully, Thunderkick has corrected their mistakes with this sequel. A purple wind up skull icon acts as a scatter in this game, and hitting three or more of them will award between 10 and 14 free spins.
During the free spins feature, the multiplier bar extends to a maximum of 64x – a full line of the top symbol is now worth 320x your stake, and with 99 pay lines, this is the first Esqueleto Explosivo game to have truly huge winning potential. Thunderkick claims that you can win up to 5,000x your stake from a single spin, which seems realistic to me.
The free spins can also be re-triggered if additional scatters land during the bonus round – two scatters will add 3 free spins to the meter, whereas five scatters will add a massive 12 extra spins to your remaining total. It’s actually possible to hit more than five scatters at once too, as a result of the cascading symbols, and you receive two extra spins for every additional scatter above five.

The original Esqueleto Explosivo had a maximum payout from a single spin of just 700x, so the leap to 5,000x is an enormous jump. The addition of the free spins feature, the huge leap in the number of pay lines, and the fact that wild symbols move you up to the multiplier line as well as winning combinations all add up to a game that is far more than just an improved version of Esqueleto Explosivo.
If ever there was an example of the right way to do a sequel, this game would have to be it – Esqueleto Explosivo 2 is such an enormous jump in quality, excitement, and features over the original that it could be argued it deserved a brand new title, as opposed to the addition of a simple “2” to the name. I think it goes without saying – we love what Thunderkick has done here, and recommend you give this one a try right away!
