Game Overview

Most of us have been on the end of an evil eye from someone at some point, whether a partner, friend, enemy or even a pet dog or cat when you accidentally step on their tail. However, none of those ‘looks that could kill’ are likely to have looked anywhere near as scary as the ‘looks that probably will kill’ in Hacksaw Gaming’s latest slot release, Evil Eyes. I mean, it’s hard to ignore a demon-like figure with horns and deep-set laser-like blue eyes piercing at you as you spin the reels. In return for such an evil glance, you’d hope this slot has the features and engaging gameplay to make it worth it. We’ll find out shortly as I review Evil Eyes, a 5×5 slot with 3,125 ways to win, a 96.24% RTP, and a 12,500x the stake max win.

First, it’s no coincidence that this release has come with Halloween not too far off. We’ve noticed quite a few spooky slots hitting the casino lobbies recently, and in fact, this is the second I’ve reviewed today. No one is complaining, though, as I think most players will enjoy a bit of a break from some of the mundane themes we’re usually force-fed. In terms of the bonus features, an Evil Eye can spread wins along a payline to enhance payouts, and there are two bonus games. One is a Hold and Win game featuring an Evil Eye that collects multipliers between 1x and 100x. The other is a free spins bonus that removes low-paying symbols from the reels that were part of an Evil Spread.

Admittedly, Evil Eyes is not your typical Halloween slot, as there are no Witches, Vampires, Pumpkins, or fancy-dress costumes anywhere in sight. If you’re after something along those lines, don’t fret; they’re about as common as sunburned Brits in Spain. There’s sure to be a bunch more hitting our demo collection in the coming weeks, too. If you cannot wait for those, check out Inspired Gaming’s Book of Halloween, a slot that combines the spooky time of the year with the ‘Book of’ genre. Alternatively, you could go for one of the classics in Microgaming’s Immortal Romance

Back to Evil Eyes, and you have to admit that some of the symbols on Evil Eyes are pretty creepy. Unfortunately, the payouts are quite frightening, too, as they’re scarily low for a non-cascading slot. The Red Demon Skull Guy has the best payout of 4x the stake for five in a row, the Spider and Wolf can pay up to 1.5x, and the Raven and Skull each return a maximum of 0.8x. All five of the low-paying symbols deliver a max return of 0.5x the stake.

Hacksaw Gaming’s Evil Eyes comes with a comprehensive selection of betting options, with the minimum stake starting at €0.20, while the maximum price to play reaches up to €100.00.

Evil Eyes slot base game

Amidst the spooky backdrop sits a 5×5 reel configuration that offers 3,125 ways to win. You’re paid whenever three or more matching symbols land on consecutive reels, as long as the first instance is on the first reel.

Evil Eye & Evil Spread

If a symbol involved in a winning combination lands on top of an Evil Eye, the Evil Spread feature triggers. Each of the symbols involved in the win is highlighted before the Evil Eye spreads that win in a random direction. All symbols in the direction away from the winning combo turn into the same symbol, enhancing the combination and the payout.

Wicked Epic Drop

Triggered randomly during the base game, you may receive a single spin on the Wicked Night bonus game. I’ll explain that bonus game in more detail later, but on this spin, a minimum of 3 Evil Eyes and 4 multipliers are guaranteed to land. You’re also guaranteed to collect at least one of those multipliers.

Evil Eyes slot bonus features

There are two bonus rounds on Evil Eyes for players to trigger and explore. These are the Wicked Night Bonus and The Graveyard Free Spins. Let’s learn more about these features and what you can expect to see from them once triggered.

Wicked Night Bonus

This bonus triggers once three or more scatter symbols land on a base game spin. Only blanks, evil eyes, and symbols holding multiplier values between 1x and 100x can land in the Wicked Night feature. Each time an Evil Eye lands, it looks in one direction (up, down, left, or right) and collects all the multiplier symbols it sees. These collected multipliers are added to the reel multipliers above the grid.

The Evil Eyes can land in any position on the reels, and multiple instances can land on the same spin. If two eyes look at each other, an additional multiplier is triggered for all multipliers above the reels.

The spin count is reset back to three each time an Evil Eye lands, but should you run out of spins, you receive the value of all multipliers as a multiple of your spin bet.

The Graveyard Free Spins

Four scatter symbols anywhere in view reward the Graveyard Free Spins bonus. During this bonus, whenever low-value symbols are both part of a winning combination and an Evil Spread, they are removed from the reels for the remainder of the bonus. Each time 3 or 4 scatter symbols appear on the same spin, you’re awarded an additional 2 or 4 free spins.

Bonus Buy

The buy bonus options are:

  • BonusHunt FeatureSpins:: You can spin with five times the chance of triggering a bonus game in return for 3x the stake.
  • I Spy With My Evil Eye FeatureSpins: 50x buys the Wicked Epic Drop feature, a single spin of the Wicked Night bonus that will land a minimum of 3 Evil Eyes and 4 multipliers. You’re also guaranteed to collect at least one of those multipliers.
  • An Eye For An Evil Eye FeatureSpins: This option for 50x the stake guarantees a win thanks to an Evil Eye landing.
  • Wicked Night: 100x gets you the Wicked Night bonus game.
  • The Graveyard: 200x gets you the Graveyard free spins bonus game.

Pros

  • The many features and bonus games ensure this slot is engaging and lucrative.

Cons

  • The theme might not suit everyone.

Evil Eyes Slot Review Final Thoughts

The gaze of the Evil Eye plays its part in almost every aspect of this slot, whether the base game, the features, or the bonus games. For the most part, the part it plays provides a ton of potential as in any mode; the slot’s 12,500x the stake is more than possible. Sure, you need a bit of luck with the direction that gaze goes, but now and again, when luck is with you, spins can turn into scary profits.
