Eye Of Cleopatra Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The ancient Egyptian theme has proven popular with slots players for decades now. There are dozens of examples of the genre – IGT’s phenomenally popular Cleopatra franchise, Play’N’Go’s Legacy of Egypt, Merkur’s Eye of Horus, or Egyptian Heroes by NetEnt to name but a few. It’s not entirely clear why Egyptian-themed games are as popular as they are, although it is thought that the “exotic” nature of these games is one part of their appeal to Western audiences. Eye of Cleopatra isn’t the best looking Egyptian-themed online slot, but it’s also far from being the worst. The music is also distinctly average and wasn’t something I wanted to listen to for more than the first ten minutes of play.
How about the paytable? The top symbol in Eye of Cleopatra online slot is, of course, Queen Cleopatra herself, returning 10x your stake for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind. The wild symbol does not have a special payout of its own unfortunately, so will return the same as Cleopatra if you are lucky enough to score three or more of them on a payline. The scatter has no payoff of its own either, acting only as a trigger for the free spins bonus round. A male character, presumably a king or Pharoah, acts as the second highest-paying symbol with a return of 5x for all five. This is followed by a bird at 3.75x, a cat at 2.5x, and a snake at 1.25x. If these numbers sound a little low to you, keep in mind that all of the symbols are stacked on all reels which makes it much easier to win on a large number of pay lines simultaneously.
Wagers are selected by choosing a coin value and multiplier, with the resulting minimum/maximum bets being €0.20 and €100.00 respectively. You can also opt into an additional “ante bet” which doubles the amount you wager per spin but also doubles your chances of hitting the free spins bonus too. This sounds like a fair choice to me, and I can imagine that there will be many players who are more than happy to double their stake to minimise the amount of time spent waiting for the scatters to drop. Using this option does not increase the games RTP%, however, so if you have a small bankroll then it’s probably wise to leave this option disabled
Base Game & Modifiers
Standard play utilizes a 5×4 playfield with 40 fixed paylines. Wins are paid for any three consecutive matching symbols that appear on a payline from left to right. It should be noted that all winning connections will need to begin from the leftmost reel first.
Random Wilds Feature
You’ll quickly notice the strange looking circular feature which is located directly above the spin button towards the bottom-right corner of this slot; keep an eye on this during play as it will occasionally light up to indicate a pattern that indicates the position of any random wilds that will be added to the current spin.
For example, you may see a pattern appear whereby all three circles on the left and all three circles on the right light up together. This shape will be copied onto the main reel area with an existing wild acting as the centre point of the new wild symbols.
This can give you a huge boost, especially if all eight positions light up at once – the resulting 9×9 block of wilds is almost sure to award you a decent payout. My best hit from this feature during testing was around 220x my stake, and I could have done much better with the surrounding symbols. There is definitely lots of potential here.
Eye Of Cleopatra Slot Free Spin Feature
The free spin bonus round ups the ante even further by adding the random wild feature to every free spin for the duration of your bonus. You can select from three options that choose how many lights will come on for each free spin – the more wilds you want to guarantee per spin, the fewer free spins you will receive.
Three scatter symbols award the minimum of 6-10 free spins, whilst four will reward you with 12-20 spins, and all five scatters returns the maximum of 18-30 spins. If you opt for the lower end of the range then all eight lights will come on for every spin, whereas choosing the maximum number of spins means only four extra wilds will appear on the reels for each spin.
You can also opt for a “random” mode which can give you any number of spins with a random light pattern for each spin. Quite often I find these random modes do not seem to work out well for the player however my experience was the opposite of this when playing Eye of Cleopatra and I seemed to do far better by choosing this option rather than any of the fixed options.
The only downside here is that winnings are capped at 4,000x your stake, and I cannot help but feel it would be quite easy to exceed this on a particularly lucky day in the free spins feature of this game. When you hit the 4,000x cap the bonus round will complete immediately, with any remaining free spins being lost.
Eye Of Cleopatra Slot Review Final Thoughts
I haven’t played an Egypt-themed online slot for a little while, so it was nice to journey back to the pyramids and see if Pragmatic Play had come up with another smash hit for this ever-popular genre. If it wasn’t for the cap on winnings during the bonus round, I would definitely have said they succeeded.
Unfortunately, in today’s market a cap of just 4,000x stake is going to be way too low for many players. Online slots fans have been spoilt over the last few years with Megaways games giving away 50,000x or even 100,000x their bet … I can’t see too many of those players being in a rush to switch to playing Eye of Cleopatra. It also isn’t clear if the win cap affects the advertised RTP of 96.50%. Because of this, I struggle to reach a recommendation this time.
