Fireborn (Hacksaw Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

Fantasy themed slot games have long been a popular choice for players, especially when they feature fire-breathing dragons. So, which of the providers is taking us on a mythical adventure in today’s review? It turns out that’s it the good friends of Hacksaw Gaming, Backseat Gaming, who, last time around, entertained us with some farmyard fun in their Sleepy Grandpa slot. However, it seems they’ve upped the ante with the theme somewhat in this release, and we’re set to look into their Fireborn slot, a 5-reel game with 19 paylines, an RTP of 96.18%, and a maximum win of 15,000x bet.

The bonus features of the game are centred around four dragons that can appear during the base game and main bonus round. These are coloured Red, Blue, Green and Gold, and each possesses its own unique modifying power. Players can trigger the free spins round by landing at least three scatter symbols in view. During this feature, there is a greater chance that the Dragon symbols will land on the reels. Furthermore, all wilds that land in view will become sticky and remain in place for the duration of the bonus.

Fire breathing dragons and sticky wilds in the free spins bonus sounds like the perfect recipe for an online slot, but will it live up to the hype? Find out and give our free Fireborn slot demo a play. It’s available to try out below.

Fireborn Paytable
Fireborn paytable

Funnily enough, we were updating a few slots here on our platform with a fantasy theme featuring dragons, and then up pops Backseat Gaming’s Fireborn slot for us to review. We were fully engrossed in Big Time Gaming’s Dragon Born Megaways slot and Blueprint Gaming’s Dragons Clusterbuster slot over the last week, so Backseat’s title is up against some stiff competition in this genre. Its first real test lies over at the pays section, and we’re ready to investigate further how much can be won, so let’s get to it.

Sharing the top spot on the paytable, we have the Wild Symbol and the Diamond, with equal payouts of 10x the bet for a five of a kind win. These are followed by the Red Gem worth 8x for a completed line of five, with the Green Gem next at 6x and the Blue Gem finalising the premium section, paying 4x the bet for a winning combo of five. Backseat Gaming has used the traditional royal symbols for the low pays, and you’ll find the Ace and King sharing pays of 1.5x and the Queen, Jack and Ten all paying 1x the bet for a five of a kind hit.

In a similar style to Hacksaw slots, the betting structure on Fireborn starts at a minimum of €0.10 a spin, with the maximum price to play reaching a massive €100. You’ll find a decent amount of options to pick from within this range, so regardless of your bankroll, you’ll be able to enjoy a good session of spins on the game.

Fireborn Slot Base Game

Fireborn Base Game
Fireborn base game

The Fireborn slot game is set over a 5×5 reel matrix with just 19 paylines. This can be a touch frustrating, as we have seen in past releases from Hacksaw Gaming when they use this setup because you can think you have hit a winning combo, but in the end, it hasn’t connected on an active payline. Wins are awarded when at least three matching symbols hit on consecutive reels starting from the leftmost reel first, and of course, these need to land on one of the 19 lines.

Dragon Symbols

There are four Dragon Symbols that can land, each with their own unique modifier:

  • Red Dragon: Expands into a full reel wild, revealing a multiplier that can be x2, x3, x5, x10, x25, x50, or x100. Lands in both the base game and free spins.
  • Blue Dragon: Breathes fire into one of four directions, transforming regular symbols into wilds before turning into a wild itself. This can land in both the base game and the free spins feature.
  • Green Dragon: Reveals a multiplier and adds it to all wilds and wild reels on the grid. The multiplier can be x2, x3, x5, x10, x25, x50, or x100. The Green Dragon can only land in the bonus game and cannot land if no wild symbols or wild reels are on the grid.
  • Gold Dragon: Will shoot a random amount of fireballs (between 1 – 5) at wilds or wild reels and doubles their multipliers. It can target the same or different symbols with each shot. The Golden Dragon can only land in the bonus game and cannot land if no wild symbols or wild reels are present within the playfield.

Wild Symbols

The wild will substitute for all regular in-game symbols and can have multipliers attached to them by the Gold and Green Dragons. Wild multipliers multiply all connected paylines and if multiple Wild Multipliers appear on the same payline, their values are added together before being applied to the win.In the bonus, all Wilds and Red Dragon Wild Reels become sticky until the end of the bonus game.

Fireborn Slot Review Final Thoughts

Backseat Gaming is still finding its feet, and its Fireborn slot is another respectable effort to add to its growing portfolio. I'm not quite sure if this is going to be a strong enough title to compete with other games in this genre of slot, but it's worth a few spins nonetheless.
