Game Overview
In my opinion, fireworks are the literal meaning of money going up in smoke – you spend a ton of money to buy them and just fire them off into the night sky. Sure, they look awesome for a few seconds, but I personally think the money looks far better in my bank account. I don’t mind paying to go to a fireworks display, though, as you get to see the same fantastic light show for a much smaller outlay. All that aside, the question today is whether Big Time Gaming and their Fireworks Megaways slot is worth paying to play. As for some stats, it’s a 6 reel slot that offers up to 117,649 ways to win, a 96.44% RTP and a seriously high max win of 150,335x the stake.
Nope, that 150,335x is not a typo; those are the numbers displayed on the facts sheet, and surely that’s a reason alone to sit up and take notice of the Fireworks Megaways slot. However, you won’t get anywhere near that in the base game, as the maximum possible is still a very solid 12,800x. Instead, you’ll have to trigger the free spins bonus to reach the bigger numbers – and that bonus game features a progressive win multiplier and utilises a similar Fireworks Wild feature that occurs in the base game.
Is this a slot game that will light up the sky and deliver you with big wins, or will it fall to the ground like a damp squib? I think you’ll have your answer after a few spins of our Fireworks Megaways demo slot; it’s free to play below.
Fireworks Megaways Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I like how Big Time Gaming has gone with a theme that’s not overly used for this one – although, I guess you could argue fireworks are a big part of slots themed on New Year, Independence Day, or other national holidays. The only other firework-specific slots I know about are Gamomat’s Fancy Fireworks and the PGslot title Wild Fireworks, which, whilst both decent slots with interesting free spins bonuses, neither falls into the same high variance slots category as BTG’s Fireworks Megaways.
Right, let’s get back on track and not let this review fizzle out – It’s time to cast our eyes over the paytable to see what we can uncover. The premium symbols are represented by four different coloured fireworks, and the best of them in terms of payouts is the Purple Firework, as it is worth 10x the stake for a six-symbol combination. The Red Firework, which returns a maximum of 1.25x the stake is next, while the Blue and Green Fireworks can deliver up to 1x and 0.6x, respectively. Finishing up with the lower pays, we come to the royals, where the Ace, King, and Queen all share a 0.4x max win when six symbols form across a payline, and the Jack, Ten, and Nine each deliver up to 0.25x.
High rollers may not approve of a max spin bet of €12.00 on this slot, but it is not uncommon for Big Time Gaming to have a fairly low betting range. There are sixteen staking options available in total for players to choose from in the real money mode, starting from a budget friendly €0.20 a spin.
Fireworks Megaways Slot Base Game
The reel format on Fireworks Megaways consists of 6 reels, with reels 1 and 6 randomly delivering between 2 and 7 symbols and reels 2 – 5 displaying between 2 and 6. There’s also a 4-position reel directly beneath the main reels, which rolls into play on each spin, and through that entire configuration, the game can produce up to 117,649 ways to win. Players Winn bank themselves some cash when at least three matching symbols (two in the case of the purple firework) land on consecutive reels starting from the leftmost reel first.
Win Reactions
Often accompanying Megaways slots is a cascading reels mechanic, and under Big Time Gaming, this is named Reactions. Winning symbols are removed from the reels, and new symbols fall in to replace them. If new winning combinations are created, the whole process repeats itself – meaning there is the possibility of winning multiple times on a single spin.
Firework Wild Bonus
On each spin and any win reaction, a random position on the 4-position reel beneath the main reels has its fuse lit. If that position holds one of the coloured firework symbols, they’ll transform into a wild symbol and deliver the following:
- Purple Firework: Transforms all positions/symbols on the reel above into wild symbols.
- Red Firework: Up to four wild symbols are added to random reel positions.
- Blue Firework: This converts into a wild symbol with a 25x multiplier.
- Green Firework: This does nothing on top of transforming into a wild symbol
Fireworks Megaways Slot Bonus Features
The trusty scatter symbol is once again what you need if you want to trigger the main bonus game on the Fireworks Megaways, and these can land on the first and last reels. You’ll need at least two to secure 12 free spins, while each additional scatter will give you a further 4 free spins.
Free Spins Feature
There is a 1x multiplier in play at the start of the bonus, but that increases by 1x each time the Firework Bonus is triggered. Furthermore, two positions now light up on the additional reel during free spins, meaning you could trigger two Firework bonuses on each spin or after a cascade win. Finally, each time you land 2 or more scatter symbols during free spins, you’re given an additional 4 free spins.
Win Exchange & Bonus Buy
If you land a win of 100x the stake or more during the base game, you’re offered the chance of swapping that 100x win for 12 free spins. Alternatively, the Win Exchange features lets you gamble a win of between 25x and 100x for those free spins. Finally, you could just buy the bonus outright at the cost of 100x the stake from the buy bonus feature.
Pros
- It's a nice looking game with solid graphics from the team at BTG.
Cons
- Is the 150,335x realistic, and will it ever happen? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Fireworks Megaways Slot Review Final Thoughts
I’ve not been a big fan of some of the most recent Big Time Gaming releases like Panda Money, simply because they have not lived up to what this superb slot developer has released prior. However, Fireworks Megaways is slightly better than the most recent output from the studio, but the max win, as always with BTG, seems a little far-fetched.I say that as the win values are so small, and you'll need a fairly hefty multiplier in play to reach the dizzy heights of a maximum win of over 100,000x. As a reference from my playing time, I had two re-triggers in one of the bonuses, which paid a total of 75x. Meh!
