Flashback HeroesArcadem SlotsSlot Demo & Review

The introduction screen of Flashback Heroes online slot shows several different features in quick succession; I didn’t even have time to read each page before it was switched out to the next. This didn’t matter though – I knew that I was excited to find out what new developer Arcadem had in store for me with this game simply by reading each of the feature titles. This is another 243-way online slot, similar to their previous game Demon Academy, however this time around the stakes are upped considerably – the maximum win from a single spin is now 10,000x your bet rather than a lowly 347x. The RTP is a little lower than that game – 95% as opposed to 96% – but could it be worth the trade-off for the chance of a far bigger win? Let’s find out!

Opening the “Rules” section of the paytable lists the details of each of the features mentioned during the introduction. There is a random modifier which turns losing spins into winners; three separate features which improve winning spins including a locked symbol re-spin feature, a sticky wild feature, and a random multiplier feature. These modifiers are complemented by four separate free spin modes.

Flashback Heroes Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Paytable For Flashback Heroes Slot Game

The theme of Flashback Heroes video slot felt tricky for me to categorise initially. Other reviews list the game as being a “superhero” themed game, which seems like a fair analysis; at the same time, there aren’t any heroes that we know pictures on the reel strips of this game. I checked the paytable to see if the picture symbols provided any further clues and found that there are only four of them – all of which seem to be newly imagined crime-fighting heroes. Some developers such as Blueprint Gaming presumably spend millions on licensing fees so they can include well known characters in their games – it seems sensible for a smaller, newer developer to skip such expenses for the time bring.

So, how does the paytable incorporate the new jackpot prize of 10,000x your stake – honestly, I wasn’t sure to begin with. A quick glance revealed that both the wild and scatter symbols have no payout of their own listed on the paytable, and the highest symbol that is featured shows just 160x your stake for five-of-a-kind. Whilst the symbols are sticked in Flashback Heroes video slot, this indicates that you cannot possibly hit a full screen of the top “Ace Danger” hero symbol as that would return almost 40,000x. The next symbol in the hierarchy is “Ice Fox”, paying 40x your stake for five-of-a-kind, whilst “Ranger” pays 16x and “Professor Element” pays 10x. These are all decent numbers for a 243-ways game, though it is certainly disappointing to see no payout attached to three or more scatter symbols.

Bet sizing is handled similarly to Arcadem’s previous game Demon Academy. You get to select from fifteen different denominations this time around, but the upper and lower bounds are still set to €0.01 and €4.00 respectively. These translate to a minimum of €0.25 per spin and a maximum of €100.00 per spin – I can’t see any reason not to show these numbers on the betting page considering this is a 243-way game. Hopefully Arcadem will change the way they list stakes in future releases.

Base Game & Modifiers

Play With 5 Reels, 243 Paylines, And Win Up To 10,000x Your Stake On Arcadem's Flashback Heroes Online Slot

The base game of Flashback Heroes takes place on a standard 5×3 playfield. With 243-ways to win and stacked symbols on all five reels, this game has a decent amount of big win potential even during regular play. Considering that there are four separate free spin mode in this game, I expect there are many players who would be happy to play this game even without the extra modifiers that Arcadem has implemented. With seven mods and features altogether, this is by far the most action-packed game I have seen from Arcadem so far:

Professor Element’s Win Spin Feature

You’ll be especially glad to see this feature activate as it only appears following a losing spin. Professor Element will demonstrate his hero-like abilities by re-arranging your losing reel set into a winning one – he may not be saving the world, but who’s going to complain about that whilst he is handing them free money?

Ranger’s Lock & Spin Feature

Conversely, this modifier only activates following winning spins. Your winning symbols will be locked in place and the remaining positions will spin again, with any further matching symbols being added to the group locked in place. This is a feature we have seen incorporated into many online slots, and it is certainly a treat to see Arcadem include it here.

Ace Danger’s Multiplier Feature

Another modifier which activates randomly following winning spins; this time around the game’s biggest-paying hero will appear on screen and add a random multiplier to your winnings. According to the paytable, this feature can award a multiplier of either 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x – I saw all three of the lower figures appear multiple times during testing but wasn’t lucky enough to hit a 10x during two or three hours. This isn’t the biggest sample size, but it does give you an idea as to how often the largest multiplier occurs.

Flashback Heroes Slot Bonus Features

Choose From 4 Free Spin Features On Flashback Heroes Video Slot

With so many features already included in the base game, it’s impressive to be given the choice of four different free spin modes each time you hit three or more scatter symbols as well. Here’s how the various bonus rounds work:

Professor Element Free Spins Feature

The “rules” section of the paytable which describes this feature could probably do with rewriting – apparently it pays similarly to the base game with no additional features… but all wins are multiplied by 3x! Following testing, I can confirm that it is the latter statement which is correct.

This feature continues indefinitely until a rocket symbol lands on the fifth reel on five separate occasions. Unfortunately, the rocket seems to appear quite frequently – I counted an average of roughly ten free spins whilst testing this feature, suggesting that the rocket appears every other spin. Still, even ten free spins at 3x can deliver some huge wins in this game, so it isn’t a bad choice.

Ranger Free Spins Feature

This feature awards you ten free spins with the lock & spin modifier from the base game guaranteed. The trouble is, the feature only activates after a winning spin; I seemed to win less regularly during this feature compared to the base game and didn’t have much luck when choosing this option overall.

Ice Fox Free Spins Feature

Our foxy superhero delivers only seven free spins, but a selection of wilds is added to the reels prior to each of them. This is very valuable on a 243-ways to win slot, and the paytable doesn’t specify if there is a maximum number of wilds that can be added on each spin. I hit a couple of really big hits from this feature and would definitely recommend giving this one a try.

Ace Danger Free Spins

Finally, the highest paying of our four superheroes also delivers the highest number of free spins. This option awards 12 spins with a 5x multiplier that increases by 1x after each spin. This means that your final free spin has a 17x multiplier attached – if you get lucky here, you could win some seriously big money. Furthermore, this free spin feature can be retriggered by hitting three scatter symbols on any spin – the retriggers add six more spins to your remaining total, further increasing the maximum possible multiplier. I suspect most players will choose this option every time, and it’s hard to argue with that!

Bonus Buy Feature

Purchasing the free spins feature costs 120x your current stake in the Flashback Heroes slot game. This option may not be available depending on which country you are playing from, but if the button is there then this option is well worth considering.

Flashback Heroes Slot Review Final Thoughts

Flashback Heroes is by far the best game I have played by Arcadem so far. The huge array of different features means there is never a dull moment, and the maximum jackpot of 10,000x your stake is more than enough to keep most high-variance slot players happy. If you are yet to try a game from Arcadem, give Flashback Heroes a spin – you won’t be disappointed.
