If your anything like me, you are probably struggling to read the logo for this game – I was a little young when the original Flodder 1986 Dutch movie was released, and I don’t remember the TV adaptation from 1993 either. Looking at the cast list, I feel it probably wasn’t ever released in English. I suspect the slot could be a bigger success in the English-speaking world than the movie or TV shows were – this is a fun game, as with most of Red Tiger’s slots – but it’s a little bit like releasing a Neighbours slot or something like that, isn’t it? It just feels a little bit dated somehow, no matter how you dress it up. There are 25 pay lines, the RTP is 95.75%, and the maximum jackpot is calculated by the developer at 7564.2x your bet.
The old school look of the game may be intentional – it is an old franchise, after all. There’s a decent number of features that don’t feel quite so ancient, however, including a random wild modifier and a free spins bonus round that reminds me a lot of NetEnt’s Secret of the Stones, with its introductory page that lets you choose from several different spirit bottles to add multipliers, extra free spins, and sticky wilds to the reels for the duration of the bonus round.

Flodder Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
There’s no getting away from the fact that the symbols used in Flodder look very much like they were drawn in the 1980s, so I’m guessing it probably is very much intentional. This gives the game a unique look, but it isn’t something which appeals hugely to me. You can almost imagine the personality of each of the characters featured in the picture symbols just from a quick glance, though, which is undoubtedly the hallmark of a well-designed game.
One area which isn’t so well designed is the paytable of the game – all the amounts shown remain fixed regardless of what bet size you currently have selected, and the bet sizes available don’t match the number of pay lines either. This makes it difficult to get a feel for how much each combination is supposed to be worth from a quick glance at the numbers. The top symbol is the mother figure, tied with the wild for 1,250 coins for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind. I’ve calculated this at 62.5x your stake using the formula given in the game’s help file. Still, it feels entirely unnecessary when the developers could just as easily have coded in the math rather than providing a tutorial on how to do it in the games help files. The elder male character comes in next at 750 coins for all five, working out at 37.5x your stake, followed by the younger female character at 25x for five-of-a-kind. There are two more “high-paying” symbols – another younger guy paying 15x your stake and the dog at 10x.
I’m not sure why Red Tiger didn’t opt to make the bet sizes tie in with the number of pay lines – the minimum bet per spin is set at €0.20 despite there being 25 pay lines, whilst the maximum is a reasonable €10.00 per spin.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game uses a typical 5×3 playfield and doesn’t pull any punches – wins are awarded for hitting three or more matching symbols from left to right. The only real twist is the “Grandpa Flodder” modifier, who can fly across the screen in his wheelchair, adding random wilds to the screen as he goes.

This is a trope, if ever there was one – when Grandpa Flodder flies across the screen in his wheelchair, he will leave a selection of random wild symbols in his wake. The paytable doesn’t clarify exactly how many wilds can theoretically be added to the feature, but I often saw four reels by this f during testing.
Flodder Slot Free Spins Feature
Most of the real big wins in Flodder are tied up in the single free spin bonus round, which gets better depending on how many scatters you land to trigger the bonus round. Each triggering scatter will grant you an extra pick from the bottles shown before the feature begins, giving you additional chances to pick a profitable bunch of symbols.
There are 20 bottles to pick from at the beginning of the feature. Some of these will make high-paying regular symbols into wilds for the duration of the bonus round, whilst others will add sticky stacked wilds to reels two or four. Other bottles conceal multipliers, whilst others still have additional free spins hidden behind them.
All features start with ten free spins at a 2x multiplier, though it is possible to increase this up to twenty free spins with an 8x multiplier and locked wild reels if you pick luckily before the bonus begins.
Flodder Slot Review Final Thoughts
I wasn’t expecting too much from Flodder, but if you put aside how the game looks for a moment, there are plenty of fun and big wins to be had here. To be honest, I think Red Tiger would probably do well to re-skin this game with a different set of symbols for a younger audience. There’s enough of a game here that it would do very well with a more recognisable movie or TV theme instead of the Flodders!
