Crash games are a relatively recent phenomenon, with the first examples of the genre only being recorded during the Bitcoin casino boom of the mid-2010s. Crypto has suffered a seriously hard time recently – scams and scandals seem to occur almost daily nowadays, leaving gambling as one of the primary legitimate uses of this form of digital money. Today, we’ll be looking at Buck Stakes Entertainment’s take on the Crash Game formula titled FlyX – it’s a reasonably good-looking example which uses the same aircraft style simile to represent the increasing payout of each round and the subsequent crash. Games such as this do not use any regular slot conventions such as paylines or payways, but we do at least get an above-average RTP of 97% alongside a capped jackpot of 10,000x the player’s stake.
If you are already familiar with the crash game genre, then I’m sure you are already wondering what FlyX brings to the table that previous crash games did not. In all honesty, I’m not sure that there is a reasonable answer to such a question; some aspects of the user interface remind me of roulette games, such as the list of previous win values that are displayed along the top of the screen. You can place a maximum of two bets per round, precisely as you could in previous releases such as Rollercoaster and Aviator. There are no bonus rounds or anything of that sort, and I can’t help but wonder why not a single developer has chosen to add something like that into their crash game. Reducing the RTP to 96% would provide some wiggle room to include some sort of special feature to separate their game from the competition.
As it stands, FlyX is pretty much just another crash game – if you want to play this style of game and it’s the only one available at your favourite site, that’s great, as it’s a good example of the formula. As mentioned in the opening paragraph, crash games such as this are a relatively new creation by the gambling industry – it’s a simple formula, though, much like the ‘Dare2Win’ games such as Hi-Lo, Lines, and Mines offered by Hacksaw Gaming. If I had to guess, I’d say that the explosive growth in the popularity of these simple gambling games was caused by the rapid expansion in the number of crypto-based casinos operating worldwide. There’s nothing especially engaging about FlyX, or any other crash game that I am aware of that makes it particularly special. Unlike a slot machine, there are only two possible outcomes and very little depth to the gameplay on offer.
With no paylines, payways, or symbols, the payouts offered by these machines are relatively easy to explain. Each round sees a multiplier slowly rising, shown in the centre of the screen – the game can suddenly end at any time, though, and if you have not cashed out your profits before that occurs, you will lose your stake. Occasionally, the man will fail to take off altogether – this results in all players losing their stakes, which is how the casinos make money from this type of game. Most rounds will end with a multiplier of between 1x and 3x, so that’s probably where you should plan to cash out in general. The trouble is, if you play it safe and only take 1.1x on your money, it will take ten rounds to cover a single loss. The other side of this is that some rounds can go on for an extraordinarily long time, perhaps reaching multipliers as large as 100x or even greater.
The casinos don’t seem particularly worried about how much players choose to bet on crash games – this one has minimum/maximum stake limits of €0.10 and €20.00, respectively, but you can also enter any number you like in between that range into the boxes displayed underneath the main display. Note the box(es) there – you can bet up to two times during each round, giving this game a maximum bet of €40.00 per round.
Base Game & Modifiers
If you are already familiar with how crash games work, you’ll learn nothing from this section of our review, I’m afraid! Crash betting is a simple idea where a multiplier will slowly increase over time, but at any point, the game can suddenly end – or ‘crash’ – resulting in the loss of any bets which have not already been cashed out.
Dual Betting Mode
This isn’t a unique feature by any means, but it is certainly nice to have – FlyX includes two bet panels, both of which work independently. Each panel allows you to set a bet amount, a pre-defined bet limit, and so forth. When I have played games like this, I often set one panel to automatically cash out at a fixed number, such as 1.5x, and then control the second panel manually. I’m not sure if that’s the best way to approach crash games, but I can tell you that I have definitely made a profit by playing them in the past!
Flyx Bonus Features
Whilst FlyX does not offer a bonus round of any kind, the information pages do speak of ‘free games’ – so what does this mean? Casinos can award players any number of free rounds they wish, much like offering free spins on a slot machine. The value of these rounds is predetermined, and the casino may attach wagering requirements to any winnings achieved during the free games. Whilst it’s nice that this functionality is included, I can’t help but feel that its description on the help page muddies the waters somewhat – players could easily mistake this description for that of a bonus round or similar feature.

- The maximum win of 10,000x seems great too, although I do have my doubts as to how this would ever be achieved.

- When the guy crashes before takeoff, it’s hard not to feel like you have just been robbed!
- No bonus rounds or other special features to separate the game from other crash games.
Final Thoughts
I don’t think there is much more to say about this one – FlyX is a decent example of the crash game genre, and not much else. It looks good, has a user-friendly interface, and works well on desktop and mobile devices. If this type of simple gambling game does not interest you, then FlyX certainly will not change your mind – for those who are only interested in multiplying their bitcoin; however, games such as this present an attractive – if risky – method of doing so.
