Fortune Gems (Jili Games) Slot Demo & Review

Gems – short for gemstones – have several other common names, many of which have made their way into the lexicon of online slots over the years. The Fortune Gems slot from provider Jili Games features only coloured gemstones rather than “clear” stones or diamonds. That’s about all the trivia I can come up with for this game, I’m afraid, but let’s be honest here – how many slot players really care what colour the symbols are as long as they pay well! This is a relatively simple machine, utilising just five pay lines; whilst the RTP is high at 97%, the maximum jackpot of just 375x is far less impressive.

If you want to have a shot at hitting that top jackpot, you’ll also need to enable the game’s ‘extra bets’ functionality. When turned on, this feature enables an additional fourth reel containing only prize multipliers. Without the extra bet enabled, the maximum prize for even a full screen of the highest-paying symbol will only net you 25x your total bet, making this one of the lowest volatility slots I’ve ever encountered. There really aren’t many special features to speak of either, so playing with that extra multiplier reel active is nearly essential in my eyes to keep things from getting boring!

If you’ve ever found yourself yearning for a return to the “good old days” of three-reel slots with extremely simple gameplay, you’re going to love our free Fortune Gems slot demo; it’s available to play below.

Fortune Gems Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Fortune Gems Paytable
Fortune Gems paytable

I’ve enjoyed several gem-based slots over the years despite finding it to be one of the least interesting themes a developer can use. Checking out games such as Super Gems, Aztec Gems Deluxe, or Forge of Gems, there really isn’t much difference between any of them visually. I feel similarly about fishing slots and candy-themed games too though; as soon as one developer finds success with a specific theme, you immediately have a bunch of competing companies releasing near-identical-looking machines in the following weeks. Jili’s Fortune Gems slot game does at least have a very different feel to it thanks to its three-reel design, but with very poor payouts and extremely limited functionality, I can’t help but wonder just how many players will be interested in trying a game such as this.

A full payline of the highest-paying wild mask symbol in Fortune Gems will only return 5x the total bet, which seems shockingly low for a game with just five paylines. The red gems have a payout of 4x the current stake for all three symbols, followed by 3x for the blues and 2.4x for the greens. As for the low-paying half of the paytable, three aces will score you 2x your bet back in winnings, followed by 1.6x for three kings, 1x for three queens, and 0.4x for the three jacks. The paytable describes a full screen of matching symbols as being the real target prizes, which would multiply all of the values listed above by five. Unfortunately, during my testing, I only saw such combinations land a handful of times during almost two hours of play.

As with most of Jili’s games, the betting range offered in the demo play mode isn’t based on dollars, euros, or pounds. There are minimum/maximum permitted stakes of €1.00 and €1,000 per round, respectively, but I suspect that you are more likely to find limits of €0.10 and €100.00 when playing in Western currencies.

The standard reel setup utilised in Fortune Gems is based around a 3×3 playfield, but I recommend turning on the game’s ‘extra bets’ feature before beginning to play. When you do, a fourth multiplier reel will be added to the existing layout. As this is a three-reel machine, all symbols have just one prize attached for hitting a full line of three symbols.

Extra Bets & Multiplier Bonus Reel

If you are willing to pay 50% more for each spin, you can enable the multiplier bonus wheel, which significantly improves the payouts for all symbols on the paytable. The multiplier reel has six possible outcomes: 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, and 15x.

The multiplier is only useful if you hit a win on the other three reels, making it a little frustrating if you go through a long patch of dead spins. On the other hand, hitting a full screen of any symbol at the same time as the 15x multiplier makes for a great win.

There are no special features included in Fortune Gems, unfortunately. This is a great shame in my eyes, as the basic gameplay is already very simplistic by contemporary standards. For those who are playing this game specifically because they want to play a simpler machine, however, perhaps this will actually be a selling point.

Pros

  • The presentation is fantastic, punching well above the weight of the rest of the game.
  • Big multipliers are available on the extra reel – if you are willing to pay for it.
  • Three-reel slots are a dying breed, but some players still enjoy them, so it’s always good to see a new one.

Cons

  • The standard payouts are ridiculously small, especially without the multiplier reel.
  • With no special features, you’ll see everything this game offers within minutes.
  • The “big win” notification goes off for even tiny prizes less than 5x the total bet!

Final Thoughts

I’ve checked out a few of Jili’s offerings by now, many of which have been enjoyable machines with plenty of great features. Unfortunately, Fortune Gems misses the mark in almost every way – I can’t possibly recommend that you spend your money playing this, even if you enjoy low-volatility slots.
