I don’t think we need to dwell on the theme of this game too much – we’re all familiar with King Arthur by now, which is truly a testament to the quality of the story considering that all historical records point to Camelot being entirely fictional despite it supposedly being based on real people and events. Let’s be honest – the inclusion of Merlin the wizard with physics-defying magical abilities was never going to stand up in the information age, was it! But a great story will always be a great story, and I expect we will continue to see many more games, movies, and other entertainment media based around this legend for years to come.
On to the big question then, how does it pay? At the top of the paytable, we have the wild symbol, which appears as a full-height symbol of King Arthur’s famous sword known as Excalibur. A full pay line of five-of-a-kind pays 25x your stake, but because this is a full-height symbol, you are likely to win on more than one pay line if you do hit five wilds. A golden wild appears during the free spins bonus round only and will increase the current win multiplier by 1x, but there isn’t any boost to its cash value, unfortunately. Hitting three scatter symbols will award the free spins feature, whilst four scatters also pay 100x your current bet, and five will reward you with 200x your stake. As for the regular symbols, King Arthur will pay 25x your bet for five-of-a-kind, followed by Merlin at 15x, Lancelot at 12.5x, and Guinevere and another unnamed Knight at 10x each. The lower-paying half of the paytable consists of four royal symbols with ornate designs and pay between 2x and 5x the current bet.
The demo version of Fortune of Camelot has a minimum bet per round of €0.20 and a maximum of €800.00. I doubt this maximum will be accurate when playing the game for real money, but if it is, then I guess this is the ultimate online slot for high rollers!
Base Game & Modifiers
There are few surprises when it comes to the base gameplay – it’s a five reel, three row reel set with 20 fixed paylines. Wins are awarded for hitting three or more matching symbols starting from the left side of the screen, and there are two modifiers and a free spins bonus to look forward to:
Merlins Magic Modifier
Merlin can show up on any spin and has two magic modifier tricks up his sleeves; first, we have the stacked wilds modifier, which can transform one or more reels into full stacks of wilds, and secondly, there is a random wilds modifier which will scatter a random number of wild symbols in random positions on the reels.
Unfortunately, the modifiers do not guarantee a win, and whilst I was testing, I saw Merlin show up quite a few times without winning anything. I could have just been unlucky, but don’t get your hopes up until you see the winning combination land on the screen!

Activate the Super Stake mode for a cost of 25% more per spin, and you will double your chances of hitting a free spins bonus round. There is no other advantage to enabling this feature – the paytable wins do not change, but as the free spin mode is by far the most profitable part of the game, I felt that this was a fair premium to pay for a 100% boost in your chances of hitting the bonus round.

The free spin bonus round is by far the most profitable part of the Fortune of Camelot slot game. This feature is awarded by hitting three or more scatter symbols during the base game and will grant you 10 free spins as well as a cash prize if you hit four or five triggering scatters.
During this mode, any wild symbols that land in view will increase the current win multiplier by 1x. There is no limit on how high the multiplier can climb, but as the feature cannot be re-triggered it seems unlikely you will get much higher than around 15-20x before the feature completes. This is definitely a profitable feature, but it would have been nice to see a little more to differentiate it from the base game, or even just the ability to retrigger.

This might not end up being a classic of the online slot scene, but it’s still a fun game that will keep players entertained for a while before they go off in search of something new to play. As I previously said, the free spins feature is where big money can be won within the game, so keep your fingers crossed that those wilds land early on into the bonus and give you a decent win multiplier to play with.
