Game Overview
I’ve played the Jelly Reels™ slot by Wazdan previously, and immediately thought of that game when loading up Fortune Reels for the first time. Would this be another game with a crazy number of pay ways? Or is it a grid slot this time around? Nope – I guess that just isn’t how Wazdan rolls, dog. Their Fortune Reels online slot utilizes 46,656 pay ways which is significantly less than Jelly Reels™, but still enormous. The game has an RTP of 96.12%, which is just about average, and a maximum win of 2,100x bet.
There looks as if there could be some other significant differences here too – the wild symbol acts as a modifier by expanding towards the top of the reel each time one appears, whilst there is a sack symbol that can land at the same time as the bonus symbols which the game says awards an “additional prize”. The cynic in me said immediately that this could well be a consolation prize for missing out on the feature, but I guess I’ll wait and see. The rest of the changes look to be tucked away in the feature, so check out the corresponding section below for details.

Fortune Reels Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Fortune Reels online slot is supposedly an oriental themed online slot, but it doesn’t do that theme particularly well in my opinion. The reels are adorned with lucky coins and a whole bundle of golden trinkets that… well, just don’t seem particularly oriental, apart from the highest-paying bowl symbol – I mean, are horseshoes oriental now? The music is okay in a way… it also does not sound very oriental – the scale used is distinctly Western, but it is ambient enough that it won’t start bugging you within the first five minutes. There are literally hundreds of online slots that do the Far-Eastern thing better though, that’s for sure.
I wondered how the paytable would compare to the eight-reel Jelly Reels™ slot by Wazdan and was surprised to find the highest-paying golden bowl symbol in this Fortune Reels slot game pays just 10x your stake for six-of-a-kind. I expected the top prizes to be a little bit higher given that this game has “just” 46,656 pay ways rather than the more than 16 million found in Jelly Ways, but I guess 46,500 is still a whole lot of pay ways. The next symbol down is the golden horseshoe at 4x your stake for all six, whilst the jewel-adorned elephant returns just 2x for six-of-a-kind and the golden pot containing purple jewels returns a paltry 1.5x your stake. I sure hope you can win on lots of pay ways at once in this game.
Selecting your bet is done in the usual Wazdan manner – a row of potential bets is shown underneath the reels, similar in fashion to Play’N’Go slots, and two arrow symbols allow you to scroll through higher and lower options. The minimum bet is set at €0.20 per spin whilst the maximum is more than high enough at €100.00 per spin.
Base Game & Modifiers
Base gameplay in Fortune Reels online slot takes place on a very large 6×6 playfield, but in most other ways this game works just the same as any other online slot. Once you begin to play, the reason for the slightly lower than normal payouts on the paytable is obvious – the expanding wild symbols appear somewhat frequently and multiply the amount you win from each spin substantially.
Expanding Wilds Feature
The wilds do have a habit of landing towards the right side of the screen in my experience, but provided they form part of a winning combination that bit really doesn’t matter.
The thing you will be focusing on is how high up the screen each wild lands, as it will expand upwards towards the top of the screen. Because of this, a wild landing on the bottom row can be viewed as a 6x multiplier whilst a wild landing on the top row has no multiplier at all.
Fortune Reels Slot Bonus Bonus Feature
You need to hit six bonus symbols in one go to trigger the bonus round in Fortune Reels. Many other Wazdan titles that feature the “Hold the Jackpot” feature will give you a free re-spin if you hit three or more bonus symbols, to give you an additional shot at collecting the full six required to start the feature.
That does not happen in Fortune Reels, unfortunately, and I did find it very hard to trigger the feature in this game. For that reason, if you do enjoy playing Fortune Reels online slot I would recommend using the bonus buy facility if it is available in your region.
Hold The Jackpot Bonus Feature
You have probably seen this feature in other games by now – starting with three spins, you need to hit a bonus symbol on every spin to reset your remaining counter to three spins, or your feature will finish early if you do not hit any additional bonus symbols three times in a row.
There are a couple of slight tweaks to the formula in Fortune Reels, such as the Golden Ox coin which will draw in all the prizes you have collected so far and then multiply them by a random amount between one and nine.
A money tree symbol will randomly add three to eight extra bonus symbols to the reels, which can act as a fairly decent fast forward to boost your chances of completing the bonus grid, and a mystery symbol can transform into either of the two special symbols described above, as well as ay of the three jackpot coin symbols.
In this game, the mini jackpot returns 20x your current stake, the minor ups this to 50x, whilst the major jackpot is worth 150x your bet. The grand jackpot, awarded for filling up all 27 possible spaces during the bonus round, returns 1,000x your bet.
Bonus Buy
For 100x your current stake, you can purchase the “Hold the Jackpot” feature outright and skip waiting for six bonus symbols to land in the main game. This seems like a bargain given my experience of how much you can win in this feature, but unfortunately these options are rapidly being banned in many jurisdictions. If the option is available, it feels like a good buy to me.
Fotune Reels Slot Review Final Thoughts
If you’re a fan of the Hold the Jackpot series of slots that have been created by Wazdan, then there’s no reason for you not to try out a few spins on Fortune Reels too. At the very least I’d recommend that you play our demo version of the game, that way you can see if you prefer this theme over the others that feature in the Wazdan catalogue.
