Fox Mayhem Slot (Play'n Go) Slot Demo & Review

If you’re a farmer in charge of rearing livestock, the last thing you are going to want is foxes in your henhouse! Or your pighouse (is that a word?) for that matter – you probably don’t want foxes anywhere! I suspect that Play’N’Go must agree with my assessment, as there’s not a single fox in sight anywhere in the developer’s Fox Mayhem online slot once you get past the animated introduction! The strangely-titled machine utilises 20 fixed paylines and offers a 96.20% RTP along with a top jackpot of 4,000x the total bet.

So, no foxes – a cute-looking pig is sitting to the left of the playfield holding a wooden bucket, but I’m not sure why he is there either! He might be trying to collect a few of the apples, carrots, and mushrooms which occupy many positions on this games reels – landing three or more of these triggers a prize collection three-spin feature where each of these ‘cash symbols’ will pay you up to 10x the current stake. A separate set of special symbols are used to trigger the game’s free spin bonus round, where multipliers of up to 20x can further boost prizes.

Why do you think that Play’N’Go decided to name this slot as they have? Did I miss something? Is there a fox lurking in the background that I failed to see? Why not fire up our free demo slot of Fox Mayhem and see if you can solve the mystery? It’s available to play below!

Fox Mayhem Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Fox Mayhem Slot Paytable
Fox Mayhem slot paytable

In my experience, foxes love to be the centre of attention; just look at QuickSpin’s Feasting Fox, for example, or the Chicken Fox games by Lightning Box. That made me suspicious when playing Fox Mayhem, I was sure a fox would be hiding somewhere, and I was right! He’s lurking behind the reels and only makes an appearance during the game’s two main bonus rounds. It’s a fun cartoon-like theme which sees our piggy friend running away from the devious fox every time his bushy tail creeps into view. It’s all very ‘Looney Tunes’, which probably wouldn’t mean much to the kids of today but is something that older gamers will probably find reasonably appealing, myself included. Yup, I finally have to accept that I have become an ‘older gamer’; that’s a tough break.

The high-paying symbols on the paytable raise just one question, what’s for dinner? I’m not sure if we eat foxes, so it’s probably our adorable piggy friend – gulp, please don’t make me be the one to tell him! There’s a huge meat cleaver which pays 30x the total bet for a full line of five of a kind, a knife/fork and a griddle pan which both return 25x for all five symbols, then an oven mitt and spatula, which both share equal payouts of 20x the current stake for a complete payline. There’s then a significant drop before we reach the lower-paying symbols, which are divided into two groups; five aces or kings will reward you with 5x your total bet, whilst the queens, jacks, and tens are a little less valuable at 4x each for a five-of-a-kind combination.

Moving on to the betting range, Play’N’Go has set the minimum/maximum limits at €0.20 and €100.00 per spin, respectively. The developer has included their usual quick bet selection bar, allowing you to quickly switch between five different stakes from one spin to the next.

Base Game & Modifiers

Fox Mayhem Slot Base Game
Fox Mayhem slot base game

There isn’t a great deal to discuss concerning the base game of Fox Mayhem. The machine utilises a traditional 5×3 video slot layout, spanned by 20 fixed paylines. This is a very common configuration for an online slot, and like other machines that use the format, you’ll need to land at least three matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the left to score yourself a win.

Wild Symbols

It isn’t possible to hit a full payline of wilds in this game, as there are none of these symbols on the first reel. However, They appear on reels two, three, four, and five and act as substitutes for all the other regular symbols.

Fox Mayhem Slot Bonus Features

Fox Mayhem Slot Bonus Round
Fox Mayhem slot bonus round

Fox Mayhem includes two main bonus rounds. There’s a standard free spins feature triggered by landing three or more scatter symbols, as well as a three-spin ‘prize collection’ feature activated by landing three or more cash symbols.

Free Spins

The number of spins awarded is determined by the number of triggering scatter symbols – you’ll receive 10 spins for three scatters, increasing to 12 or 15 spins for four or five scatter symbols, respectively. In this mode, there is an increased chance of activating the prize collection feature as the reels are filled with many more cash symbols.

You’ll definitely want to hit the prize collection feature this way too, as during the free spins, all wins can be boosted by multipliers of 2x, 5x, 10x, or even 20x. Unfortunately, the free spins cannot be re-triggered.

Prize Collection Feature

There are three types of cash symbols – apples, carrots, and mushrooms – and up to five can land during a single spin. If three or more cash symbols land, you’ll be treated to the prize collection feature, where each cash symbol is worth up to 10x the current bet.

Prize collection is a three-spin feature, meaning you begin with three lives on your remaining counter. If a spin finishes with no new symbols being added to the playfield, you’ll lose a life; if at least one new symbol does land during a round, your remaining lives are reset back to the initial three.

The feature ends when you run out of lives or fill all 15 possible positions with cash symbols. If the prize collection feature is triggered during the free spins, the payout can be boosted by a multiplier of up to 20x.

Pros

  • Fun ‘looney tunes’ style theme
  • Two bonus rounds to find and explore
  • A generous 20x multiplier is available when cash collection is triggered during free spins.

Cons

  • The average jackpot of 4,000x.
  • The prize collection feature isn’t so generous when triggered outside of the free spins.

Final Thoughts

This game reminded me of Wile E Coyote and Roadrunner, which was one of my favourite cartoons as a child. I definitely appreciated the theme, but I am not keen on the part where you need to hit the prize collection feature from within the free spins to stand a chance of hitting the game's top prize. It seems like you’ll need a whole bunch of luck to set up those specific circumstances. Nevertheless, Fox Mayhem is certainly worth a look – it’s not Play’N’Go’s best work though.
