After reading through the game’s various information pages, I felt sure that Fred’s Food Truck is a clone slot of a previous Hacksaw game. I couldn’t quite put my finger on which one it is, though, and it may just be that this style of game is quite typical of the developer’s recent output. It would appear that Fred is quite a fan of green chillies, as these are everywhere on the reels of this game! Food is a favourite theme amongst developers of online slots, but it’s a very broad theme that includes a great many smaller, more specific ideas. Sweets are one of the most popular themes to come under the umbrella of food, whilst fast food slots such as this one are another. One alternative game that immediately springs to mind is Play’N’Go’s title Fat Frankies, as that’s another food truck-based slot which instantly makes the words ‘death trap’ appear in my head! In fact, there’s very little to separate this game from that one really – the titles are probably interchangeable without confusing anybody much confusion.
Let’s take a look at the paytable next, headed up by the wild French fries symbol, which awards 40x the total bet for a full payline of five of a kind. That’s twice the 20x payout awarded for all five hamburger symbols, which is always nice to see – in many other games, the wilds do not pay any more than the highest-paying regular symbol. The pizza and taco both share equal payouts of 15x for a complete payline, whilst the hotdog and chicken leg are worth a little less at 10x your stake each. The base game of Fred’s Food Truck utilises five reels of five rows each, which is quite a large playfield for a game with just 15 fixed paylines. I was somewhat surprised to see that Hacksaw had included 15 lines actually – they usually like to include a stranger number such as 14 or 17 lines for some reason! Fortunately, the developer has wisely chosen to group symbols into stacks, which helps a lot with minimising the number of dead spins you are likely to experience.
Global Multiplier
The green chilli is a multiplier symbol which will apply its value to the global multiplier whenever it lands. They can also appear with three levels of spice, indicated by the number of chillies on the plate.One chilli can have a value of 1x/2x/5x, increasing to 10x/15x/20x for two and 25x/50x/100x for all three.
Fred’s Food Truck Slot Bonus Features
Many Hacksaw games include two bonus rounds, or at least a standard and an enhanced version of the bonus round. This time, however, the developer has opted to increase the number of free spins awarded if more than three scatters land on the reels. A minimum three-scatter trigger will give you the ‘small menu’ with 10 free spins, whilst four scatters awards you the ‘big menu’ with 15 free spins.
Free Spins
Regardless of the number of triggering scatters, the free spins feature has only one significant difference between it and the base game. In this mode, all collected green chilli multipliers will be progressively added to your global multiplier. The multiplier does not reset between free spins, making the green chillies more valuable than ever! It’s not possible to re-trigger the bonus round, although that’s unsurprising given that you can potentially collect a whole bunch of 100x multipliers with just 10-15 free spins!
Bonus Buy
Hacksaw always includes a bonus buy facility in their games, which is fantastic for those players who are allowed to take advantage of such things. The menu has three options; the first is a bonus bet that triples the cost of each spin in return for a 400% increase in the odds of triggering a bonus round.
Options two and three are for the small and big menus, respectively. This is nice to see, as many games will decide how many scatters to give you at random. These features are priced at 100x and 200x the total bet.

Cons
- Whilst Hacksaw has done its best to mitigate the problem, the low payline count inevitably delivers a lot of dead spins.
- Even when you do hit something, it’s often not going to pay very much – the paytable isn’t very generous, so you’ll definitely need the multipliers to boost your total win.
Fred's Food Truck Slot Review Final Thoughts
The last couple of Hacksaw games hasn’t had the same unique and original feel about them as I have become used to. Fred’s Food Truck is still a fun and exciting online slot but lacks the spark that blessed many of this developer's previous games. Oh, and I definitely wouldn’t trust Fred’s food either!
