Game Overview

They say that horse racing is the sport of kings – I imagine this probably feels very close to the truth when your horse is the ‘front runner’. Perhaps not so much when the mare you just slapped a month’s wages on the nose of is sitting at the back of the pack! Still, there’s no worrying about anything like that when playing Slingshot’s new Front Runner Link & Win online slot – we only care that a row of horses appears on one of the games 40 paylines; it doesn’t really make a difference which one it might be! The game boasts a 94.24% RTP – a little below average, sadly – and the top jackpot of 5,000x the total bet isn’t exactly heart-stopping either. Still, not every slot needs to be ultra-high variance to be fun, so let’s see whether the rest of the feature set makes this one worthy of a Demoslot.com recommendation!

The first big feature of note is the ‘Power Stacks’, which can cause any symbol to appear in huge stacks on all reels. Any symbol apart from the scatters and wilds can be given the power boost, and when this occurs, that symbol will become stacked on all reels at once. The ‘Link & Win’ feature mentioned in the game’s title is a typical three-spin feature triggered by hitting any six coin symbols during the base game. The triggering coin symbols are locked in place before the feature begins, which is played using alternate reels that contain nothing but coin symbols. The coin symbols are related to the game’s jackpot prizes, which include MINI (40x), MINOR (100x), MAJOR (1,000x), and GRAND (5,000x) jackpots. During the main free spins bonus round, wild or coin symbols are guaranteed to be stacked on every spin.

I’ve never really seen the appeal of horse racing myself… but it is one of the most popular forms of gambling anywhere in the world, so I guess I must be missing something! If you’re a little better informed than me, then I’m sure that you’ll enjoy our free demo slot of Front Runner Link & Win – available to play below.

Front Runner Link And Win Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Horse-themed online slots are quite common, but horse-racing-themed games seem to be another matter. I often mentioned the Frankie Dettori games by Playtech when discussing games such as this, but those are getting a little long in the tooth by now. We recently looked at an amusingly titled slot named Big Horsey Fortune, but it wasn’t exactly a smash hit, in my estimation. Pragmatic Play’s Happy Hooves was a little better, but I’d say that Play’N’Go’s Colt Lightning has to be the best of the bunch as far as modern horse-themed online slots are concerned. There’s definitely an opening for a developer to come up with a killer game here – I’m just not sure that Front Runner Link & Win will be the one, sadly.

Fortunately, it’s not all bad – five scatter symbols will get you 100x your total bet, a rare treat nowadays when scatter symbols often pay nothing at all. The wilds are only worth 10x the total bet for a full payline of five of a kind, however, and the highest-paying regular symbol – the jockey – is worth even less at just 7.5x for all five symbols. You’ve got a champagne bucket at 6x, a jockey’s helmet at 5x, and a set of binoculars at 4.5x, with the final high-paying symbol represented by a horseshoe with a return of 4x for all five symbols. As for the low pays, these feature the four playing card suits – the spades are the most valuable at 2.5x for all five symbols, whilst five hearts get you 2.4x, five diamonds get you 2.2x, and, finally, five clubs return 2x the total bet.

The betting range is pleasingly granular – there are two scrollbars for choosing the coin size and number of coins per line, and between the two, you can reach minimum/maximum bets of €0.20 and €20.00 per spin, respectively. There are also several quick bet selection buttons, which are always nice to have at hand.

Base Game & Modifiers

Front Runner Link And Win Slot Base Game
Front Runner Link and Win slot base game

The base game of Front Runner Link & Win offers few surprises – the playfield has five columns of four rows each, spanned by 40 fixed paylines. A grid of this size has a total of 1,024 possible paths from left to right, as you will see in payway based slots, so many possible combinations may appear to look like a win yet are not. The most sensible lines are active for payouts, though, so this didn’t bother me much whilst I was testing the game.

Power Stacks

Before any spin, the power stacks modifier may trigger and add large stacks of one chosen symbol to all five reels. During the base game, only regular symbols can be made into power stacks – during the free spins feature, the wilds and coin symbols can also appear in power stacks as well.

Front Runner Link And Win Slot Bonus Features

Front Runner Link And Win Slot Bonus Feature

There are two main bonus rounds in Front Runner Link & Win – the Link & Win feature requires six coin symbols to be triggered, whilst the free spins mode is activated by hitting all three scatters on reels one, three, and five.

Link & Win Feature

In this mode, only coin symbols feature on the reels. Each coin has a cash value, and the six coins that triggered the feature will become locked in place and are guaranteed to form part of your final win.

Any further coins that land during this mode will also become locked in place, and when this occurs, your remaining spin counter will be reset to three. The feature will end if three consecutive spins conclude with no further coins being added to the playfield.

If the entire playfield becomes filled with coin symbols, the GRAND jackpot of 5,000x the total bet is automatically awarded.

Free Spins

In this mode, the power stacks modifier is guaranteed to trigger on every spin. Only wilds or coin symbols can be power stacked during free spins. This feature cannot be re-triggered and doesn’t seem to have as much potential as the Link & Win feature, but it does seem to trigger more frequently.
