Frozen Tropics (Pragmatic Play) Slot Demo & Review

The last ice age ended around 25,000 years ago, so does that mean we’re due for another one? I sure hope not, but just imagine if we did! No more exotic holidays or cruises, and think of all those animals that would perish in the plummeting temperatures. It would appear this is a scenario game provider Pragmatic Play has thought about too in their Frozen Tropics online slot, where upon first glance, it seems a lucky parrot did survive at least. How about some stats then? We’ve got ourselves a tidy-looking 6-reel slot complete win 2,304 paylines, an RTP of 96.15%, and a maximum win of 9,000x bet.

There are a few interesting aspects to this slot, starting with the Frozen Symbols that can hit randomly with 1 out of 3 possible levels active. If you can break the symbol out of its ice, it will leave behind a multiplier of x1 that will be added to the global win multiplier value for that series of spins. Smash the wild symbols out of their ice blocks, and you can reveal multipliers of up to 100x or a special 2x value that will be applied to the current total global multiplier. Hit a minimum of three scatters to trigger the free spins feature to play an enhanced version of the base game where the multiplier doesn’t reset between losing spins.

I know we’re taking you to the tropics on this slot adventure, but I’d leave your suncream behind and pack some extra thermals and a scarf instead. Anyway, it’s time for the off, so fire up our Frozen Tropics demo slot to get into the action; it’s available to play below.

Frozen Tropics Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Frozen Tropics Paytable

Usually, when looking at a slot for the first time, it’s quite easy to think of a few others that are similar, well, with regard to the theme, at least. Of course, there are plenty of tropical-themed online slots out there, but there are not many absolute blockbusters that spring to mind is there. After looking through our slot library, I decided the best games I could come up with to share in this genre were Hacksaw Gaming’s Keep’ Em Cool and another Pragmatic slot titled Tropical Tiki. So if you want to warm yourself up after freezing your unmentionables off in Frozen Tropics, you know where to head.

We’re heading off to the paytable next, where we find the strawberry as the highest paying symbol worth 2x the bet for a six of a kind hit. This is followed by the plum at 1.5x, a bunch of grapes at 1.25x, the slice of melon valued at 1x, and the bunch of bananas that pay 0.75x for a full line of six. Pragmatic has opted for the industry standard royals to represent the low pays, with the Ace and King sharing equal values of 0.5x for a winning combo of six and the Queen, Jack and Ten all paying 0.4x for a six of a kind win.

There’s quite the betting range in play on Frozen Tropics, with the minimum/maximum stake limits coming in at €0.20 and €240, respectively. I’ve noticed lately that several Pragmatic slots have had their max values increased from €100 up to the €240 mark. Perhaps this is just something that has been applied to the demo games, but it really is quite the leap.

Base Game & Modifiers

Frozen Tropics Base Game
Frozen Tropics base game

Frozen Tropics sports a reel formation of 3x4x4x4x4x3, which allows the game to offer players 2,304 fixed paylines. All you need to do to hit a winning combo is match three symbols from left to right, with the win needing to start from the leftmost reel first.

Tumble Feature

Also known as cascading reels, this mechanic will kick in when a winning combo is formed across the reels. All winning symbols (that are free from ice) will explode and be removed from the reels, with new symbols then falling from above to fill the spaces left behind.

Frozen Symbols

On each spin, the symbols can land as three different levels. A level 3 symbol is fully frozen, a level 2 shows as being partially frozen, and a level 1 symbol show as completely unfrozen. The frozen symbols do not disappear and explode during reel tumbles; instead, they go down 1 level from level 3 to level 2 and from level 2 to level 1 after each winning combination.

When a level 1 symbol is part of a winning combination, it disappears and leaves behind a multiplier that is added to the global multiplier. Any non-wild symbol that explodes will leave a multiplier behind of +1x. Any Wild Symbol that explodes on reels 2 and 5 leaves a random multiplier behind, ranging from 5x – 100x. Any Wild Symbol that explodes on reels 3 and 4 leaves behind a 2x multiplier that will be applied to the current value of the global multiplier. In the base game, the total multiplier value resets back to 1x after every spin.

Pros

  • A higher max win of 9,000x compared to many Pragmatic slots that only pay a jackpot of 5,000x.

Cons

  • The cascading element of the game and the adding of the multipliers is quite slow, and after a short while, I found it quite boring.
  • An RTP rate of 94.14% can be offered to casinos. It might not be as low as many other games, but it's still a bit pants.

Final Thoughts

Frozen Tropics is certainly not the worst game I've ever seen from Pragmatic, but it can be firmly filled in their filler category for me, and it's not a game I would ever see myself revisiting on a regular basis.I do quite like the idea of being able to multiply the multiplier, similar to how you can in Muertos Multiplier Megaways, but try the game out for yourself, and you'll see what I mean in the cons section about the reel cascades and multiplier adding taking an age.
