I never played the original Game of Gladiators online slot when it was released by Play’N’Go back in 2019, but searching for the game today reveals that it caused a great deal of controversy at the time. I won’t go into the details here – Google can tell you the whole story if you are interested – but I will say that I’m surprised it took so long for Play’N’Go to cash in on the hype with a sequel! Titled Game of Gladiators Uprising, the machine uses 30 paylines, a 6,000x max win, and offers five casino selectable RTP levels ranging between 84.20% and 96.20%. Because of this, it’s a good idea to check that your chosen online casino is running the game at its top setting before beginning to play.
There are three gladiator symbols on the reels of Game of Gladiators Uprising, all of which function as wild and scatter symbols. Each gladiator has their own special attack, which is triggered each time one or more of their symbols land on the reels. For example, Spartacus will add up to five wilds to the reels, whilst Bellka can create up to two stacked wilds, and Emperor Gaius goes for the jugular with his devastating multiplier wilds! Landing two different gladiator symbols simultaneously will trigger the main ‘Champions of the Arena’ bonus round, which has a rather cool meta-feature allowing you to place a bet on who the victor might be.

Game Of Gladiators Uprising Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Gladiator-themed slots are just one branch of the much larger Roman Empire theme, of which we usually see at least a couple of releases each month. Centurion Megaways is one especially popular example amongst players of our demos, but my personal favourite, at least amongst our more recent reviews, has to be Red Tiger’s Athens Megaways, which I can’t help but keep coming back to week after week! Game of Gladiators: Uprising isn’t anything all that special to look at, and its graphics heavily remind me of NextGen’s fun – but ancient – 300 Shields. Graphics aren’t everything, however, so how about the real question, how does it pay?!
The three coloured gladiator symbols all share identical returns of 30x the total bet for a complete payline of five of a kind. The highest-paying regular symbol – a helm – will also award 30x your bet for a complete payline, whilst a mace occupies the second-place spot with a much lower return of 10x for all five symbols. The final two high-paying spots go to an axe, paying 8x your bet for five of a kind, and a pair of leg irons which pay 5x. The low-paying royal symbols are divided into two groups: the Ace/King paying 1.4x and the Queen/Jack offering even money at 1x for all five symbols. Nothing too special so far, then, but all symbols do at least appear stacked on the reels, which makes it much easier to win on a large number of pay lines simultaneously.
The minimum bet permitted in Game of Gladiators: Uprising is just €0.05 per spin, which is about as much as any low roller could ever ask for! At the other end of the scale, those with larger bankrolls may appreciate the ability to dump as much as €100.00 into every spin.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of Game of Gladiators: Uprising features five reels of four rows each, spanned by 30 paylines. The playfield is only slightly larger than the standard video slot configuration of 5×3, but I did notice that many combinations ended up forming on the reels that looked like they should award a win yet did not.
Gladiators
There are three gladiator symbols, each of which has its unique re-spin feature. Any single gladiator appearing on the reels will trigger the corresponding feature:
- Spartacus (Red) – Legion Slash – Adds three to five wilds to the reels.
- Bellka (Blue) – Full Strike – Adds one or two full-reel wilds to the reels.
- Emperor Gaius (Yellow) – Adds up to three 2x multiplier wilds to the reels.
Game Of Gladiators Uprising Slot Bonus Features
If two different gladiator symbols land simultaneously, a battle is triggered between them. The paytable doesn’t mention what might happen if all three gladiators were to land at the same time, and I couldn’t achieve this while I was testing the slot. So I guess it may not be possible.
Champions Of The Arena Free Spins
Before your bonus round begins, the game will offer you the chance to guess the victor of the forthcoming battle. If you choose correctly, your winnings will be topped up with an additional 5x the total stake.
Each bonus round will continue indefinitely until your chosen fighter either wins or loses. During the battle, the aim is to collect five matching gladiator symbols, which will activate that gladiator’s ability (see above) for the remainder of the bonus round.
After collecting every set of five gladiators, your opponent will lose a life. At this time, an additional spin will be played where winnings are boosted by an additional multiplier of up to 50x. Each gladiator has three lives, and the battle will conclude when one of the fighters has no lives remaining.
Game Of Gladiators Uprising Slot Review Final Thoughts
This is an intriguing slot that had me engrossed the entire time I was writing this review, but I couldn’t help but feel that the underwhelming payouts let the game down. Still, it’s worth playing, and I think you will enjoy it.
