We’ve reviewed many Mayan-themed online slots over the years, but I’ve never encountered one that concentrates on the Mayan underworld. Rather than try to describe each mask as I list the payouts, I’ll go by their colour. It’s much easier. The Red Mask will appeal the most compared to other regular symbols as it can reward up to 50x the stake. The Green, Blue, Turquoise, and Orange Masks pay 25x, 15x, 12x, and 10x, respectively, for wins of 12 or more symbols. A selection of strange Mayan symbols represents the lower-paying symbols. Gates of Xibalba is an entertaining slot in the mould of many other recent Pragmatic Play releases such as their Gates of Olympus 1000 slot. However, I feel a 5,000x max win is relatively low for such high volatility. Still, it offers plenty of fun, and once/if you do trigger the free spins bonus, you stand a chance of pulling in some hefty payouts.
