Gator Gold Gigablox Demo Slot (Yggdrasil Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

The GIGABLOX series of online slot machines from Yggdrasil has been around for some time, but whilst there are lots of entries to the franchise by now, none of them particularly stand out to me as being an all-time classic. Will Gator Gold Gigablox buck this trend? Let’s investigate! This is a 4,096 pay way machine – don’t be fooled by the different symbol sizes, as a 3×3 symbol acts just like nine separate symbols as opposed to one larger symbol. The RTP is bang on the industry average of 96%, whilst the maximum win is 20,000x your bet.

You are guaranteed at least one “Gigablock” per spin, which can range in size between 2×2 and 4×4. The main bonus feature is a free spin round, and there are multiplier wilds in addition to the regular wild symbols appearing on the reels too. This is a relatively tame set of features for a Yggdrasil slot – the developer has been known to stuff their games with up to a dozen different mods and features on occasion!

If you’ve played some of the other Gigablox titles, then you probably have a good idea of what to expect here, but why not give our free demo slot of Gator Gold Gigablox a blast anyway? It’s available right here:

Paytable For Gator Gold Gigablox Slot

The title “Gator Gold” refers to the game’s top-paying symbol, which returns a payout for hitting just two consecutive matching symbols from left to right. The other animals featured on the reels here are an eclectic bunch, that’s for sure – we have a meercat, a zebra, a cheetah (or some other type of large cat), and a buffalo. I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that these are all animals you would find on the plains of the African savannah, which has been the basis for several other smash-hit online slots such as the Buffalo Gold and Raging Rhino franchises. If Yggdrasil is hoping to compete with slots of that calibre, they certainly picked themselves a formidable challenge – the Buffalo Gold slots are some of the most well-loved games in Las Vegas. However, the best versions of the game have yet to be released online.

The top part of the paytable makes a big point of shouting about how great the Golden Gator symbol is and the fact that it pays out for just two matching symbols. Personally, I would have just kept it as a strange oddity to the paytable myself – you only get your stake back for two of them, after all, and the returns for three or more of them aren’t much higher than those for the rest of the “high-paying” symbols.

The free spins symbol has no cash payoff attached to it, but the number of free spins you receive depends on the number of triggering symbols, so hitting a large number of them does have some benefit. You’ll need at least five to trigger the free spins, rather than the more common three, due to the larger than usual 6×4 playfield. There are three types of wild that substitute for all of the regular symbols, including a 2x and 3x multiplier wild, but again, they have no cash payoff of their own – I suspect you wouldn’t be worrying too much about that though, as hitting any wild on all six reels would automatically mean you just won on all 4,096 pay ways at once. That’s going to be quite a hit!

The minimum bet per spin is set at €0.20, and you can increase or decrease your wager using the coin value selectors in the bottom-left corner of the screen. If you increase the coin value to the maximum of €3.00, this results in a cost per spin of €60.00; I’m not sure why they didn’t just allow you to set your wager directly in terms of cash, but that’s the way it is.

Base Game & Modifiers

Play With 6 Reels, 4,096 Paylines, And Win Up To 20,000x Your Bet In Gator Gold Gigablox Online Slot From Yggdrasil Gaming

You’ll spend most of your time playing the Gator Gold Gigablox video slot in the base game, which uses a six reel setup with four rows. In many games, the largest wins can only be found during the feature or bonus rounds, but that isn’t the case here; all symbols are stacked on all six reels, making a full screen of the top-paying Golden Gator a possibility even during the base game. This theoretical combination would result in a payout of 6x your stake multiplied by 4,096x pay ways; however, for a total of 24,576x your bet – higher than Yggdrasil’s advertised maximum return of 20,000x your bet.

Therefore, it isn’t clear if 20,000x is a cap on possible winnings or if the Golden Gator does not appear in stacks of four on every reel. Remember, we haven’t even included any of the multiplier wilds in this equation either – just a single one of these on reel six combined with five stacks of the Golden Gator would make for a payout of 61,440x your stake. Unfortunately, the various help pages do not explain how any of these payout mechanics work. However, you could look at this another way, which is that 20,000x your stake is tantalisingly within reach via several different winning combinations!

Gigablox Feature

This isn’t much of a feature, but it feels important to restate that Gigablox work the same way as groups of individual symbols would, as opposed to a single symbol which takes up a more significant amount of space. This is in contrast to a game such as Big Time Gaming’s “Danger High Voltage”, where there are fully stacked wilds on the reels that work the same way as a single wild surrounded by dead space might do. By comparison, the Gigablox setup used here is much more advantageous to the player.

Gator Gold Gigablox Slot Free Spins Feature

Land 5 Or More Scatter Symbols To Trigger The Free Spins Feature On Gator Gold Gigablox Video Slot

The sizeable 6×4 playfield means there are lots more ways to win compared to the 243 ways that result from a more standard 5×3 playfield, but it also means you will need to hit more scatter symbols to trigger a bonus round. In the case of the Gator Gold Gigablox online slot, a minimum of five free spins scatter symbols are required to trigger the bonus round, with the number of free spins awarded corresponding to the number of free spin symbols which trigger the feature.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any extra modifiers, multipliers, or other features exclusive to the bonus round in Gator Gold Gigablox. This could be seen as a good thing, bearing in mind that, as mentioned previously, it also means that you can win the game’s biggest prizes in both the base game and the free spins feature. On the other hand, it also means that a standard five-scatter bonus round can be over in the blink of an eye without any real extra opportunity of collecting extra winnings.

On the plus side, you can win additional free spins during the bonus round by hitting free spin symbols during the feature, and these do appear with a decent amount of frequency – whilst testing this game, I rarely had a bonus round which lasted fewer than ten free spins.

Gator Gold Gigablox Slot Review Final Thoughts

Playing Gator Gold Gigablox is a fun experience, but despite appearances, this is not a high variance game – I’d say it is medium-variance at the most. This means that the game delivers relatively few dead spins, and medium-sized wins also feel more frequent than you may expect them to. This is a consequence of the fact that Yggdrasil has not tied up a huge amount of RTP in the bonus round, so you could find yourself playing this game for an extended period without drastically affecting your bankroll.

Sadly, as fun as the game is, I feel sure that most players will tire of it quickly – which is a real shame, considering how beautifully it is presented.
