The Genie (or Jinn) is an excellent fit for a character to spear in a slot machine! These supernatural creatures first appear in pre-Islamic Arabian and later Islamic mythology and theology and are well known for springing up – sometimes at the rub of a lamp – and granting gifts of cash or wishes. Disney’s Aladdin is one of the most well-known stories to involve a genie, but that hasn’t made its way onto the online slots market just yet, as far as I am aware. I guess the natural thing to discuss here would be the earlier Genie Jackpots games, which started with a 20 payline game simply titled “Genie Jackpots” released by Blueprint during their earliest years as part of the online casino industry. The game was reasonably popular, but as Blueprint was not a major player then, it probably did not have as big of an impact as the later Megaways update to the game.

He just might, you know, as the payout for five golden genie symbols is a tidy 1,000x your bet, whilst his turban is enough to get you 500x if you hit five-of-a-kind! A pair of crossed swords will pay you 100x for all five, whilst the bag of gemstones and book of wishes each pay 50x for a completed pay line. After this, you have eight red-coloured symbols with varying pictures of chests or bags of gold, which are the ones that will award cash prizes when collected by the genie.
The demo slot allows you to bet between €0.10 and €10.00 per spin, although I suspect that the real money version of the game may allow you to bet a little bit more than this. If not, this range will still be plenty for the overwhelming majority of players.

The base game doesn’t have too much to report on in this new iteration of Genie Jackpots – it’s a 5×3 playfield with ten fixed paylines and a payout for hitting three or matching symbols from left-to-right, pretty much exactly like 95%+ of other online slots. Things begin to get interesting in this game during the bonus round, so we’ll waste no time and get onto that section of the review.

To win yourself a bonus round, you need to hit three or more of the scatter bonus symbols anywhere on the reels. Three will award ten free spins, whilst four grants fifteen spins and all five will win you the maximum of 20 free spins.
Once you arrive at the free spins feature, you finally have a chance to take advantage of all those red gold symbols that appear during the base game! I find it quite frustrating – and surprising – that you cannot win the cash prizes written on them even if you hit a full pay line of five-of-a-kind, but alas, that is how things work in this slot, unfortunately.
On the plus side, any time you hit a genie symbol during the free spins, he will do you a favour by collecting up all of the cash prizes written on any red symbols that are on the screen at the time, which can result in some reasonably chunky reel hits before we even get to the biggies – the upgrades:
Lock & Load upgrade
After collecting four genie symbols during the bonus round, the lock and load upgrade will become active. In this mode, any genie symbols that land will trigger a free re-spin that will repeat until your next spin reveals no more genies or additional gold coin symbols.
Win Boost upgrade
If you are lucky enough to collect eight genie symbols during a bonus round, the win boost upgrade will activate in addition to the previous lock and load upgrade. In this mode, the genie can upgrade any of the gold coin symbols currently on the screen multiple times before he collects them.
Big Spin Frenzy upgrade
The final upgrade requires twelve genies to be collected, after which the big spin frenzy will trigger in addition to both the win boost and lock & load upgrades that you already have boosting your returns. In this mode, the genie will collect your gold coin values up to five times each! Factor in the value boost and the re-spins, and you can be near-certain of a massive win if you can make your way to this part of the game.

I was hoping this would be more than a mere clone of the Fishin’ Frenzy games that Blueprint has released in the past, and it seems that my wishes were granted as the bonus round featured here is quite different to that featured in their previous games. It’s not groundbreaking, but it sure is fun – I have no doubt this will be yet another hit for Blueprint Gaming.
