Gifts Of Fortune Megaways Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Red Envelopes or Packets are an integral part of Chinese culture and are also used in some other Asian countries. The packets are given on special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, births, and so forth, and are most often filled with cash – so-called “lucky money”. This isn’t the first online slot to feature these packets stuffed with money – Dancing Drums Prosperity is one recent example that springs to mind, along with Red Tiger’s Cai Shen 168. Actually, any game with a Chinese theme is likely to feature these packets somewhere within the background – they really are that important to the Chinese way of life.
Lucky money isn’t a thing in my country, so I guess I’m going to have to rely on this slot to award me a red packet or two! The high-paying symbols are each represented by an animal statue made of gold, the highest-paying of which is the purple dragon, with a return of 50x your bet for a full payway of six of a kind. The red tortoise is next, but there’s a massive drop in value here as this symbol is only worth 3x your bet for all six symbols. The blue fish will pay you 2x for a full payway, whilst the lowly green frog is worth just 1x your bet… what did the frog do wrong? Didn’t he put enough cash in his red packet? As for the low-paying symbols, the top three royals have a return of 0.5x for all six symbols, whilst the J/10/9 will pay you slightly less at 0.4x.
The game offers minimum/maximum wagers of €0.20 and €20.00 per spin, respectively, with a decent number of bets between the two limits. So, no matter what bankroll you are starting with, there will be something for you to select relative to it.
Base Game & Modifiers
The setup of Gifts of Fortune should be instantly familiar to almost every slot player by now – it’s the familiar six-reel Megaways layout, along with a shorter horizontal reel positioned above reels two to five. This creates a maximum of seven rows per reel, resulting in the familiar count of 117,649 possible payways. The highest-paying dragon symbol pays out for just two matching symbols, whilst every other symbol requires at least three matches on adjacent reels starting from the left.
Fortune Prizes
Winning combinations are immediately removed from the reels after landing. This will cause a “reaction”, where the winning symbols are replaced by new ones dropping in from the top of the reels or from the right in the case of the horizontal reel.
Whenever winning symbols are removed, one or more fortune prizes may be created according to the number of red packets currently visible on the horizontal reel. Each Fortune Prize has a cash value that is printed on the symbol.
Treasure Pot
The treasure pot is shown above the horizontal reel and adds a random multiplier of up to 10x to the prizes won during the base game. In the free spins bonus round, there is no limit to the size of the treasure pot multiplier.

The main free spin bonus round is triggered by hitting three or more scatter symbols during the base game. A three-scatter trigger will award 10 free spins, with two extra spins awarded for each additional scatter symbol. Hitting three more scatters whilst the feature is in play will add another four free spins to your remaining total.
Free Spins
In this mode, the Treasure Pot takes on a new role as a progressive multiplier. The bonus round begins with no multiplier, increasing by 1x for every red packet that lands on the horizontal reel. Only the fortune prizes are multiplied by the value shown in the treasure pot, however; the multiplier does not affect regular symbol wins. There is no limit to the size of the treasure pot multiplier available in this mode.
Enhanced Free Spins
If at least one super scatter symbol forms part of the bonus triggering combination, the game will award you the special enhanced free spins feature instead of the default variant.
At least one red packet is guaranteed to land on every free spin during this mode, which also guarantees that you will reach a 10x multiplier by the end of the bonus round.
Bonus Buy
Both free spin modes can be purchased using the bonus buy facility if such features are permitted within your country/jurisdiction. The regular free spins cost 70x the current bet, while the enhanced mode comes at a reasonable price of 200x.
While writing this review, I tried both modes many times and made a profit on more than half of my attempts. I rarely had a truly awful bonus round either and seemed to recover around half my buy-in most times that I was not able to make a profit.
