Game Overview
I don’t know if there has ever been a sillier title for a Gigablox game than Gigagong, but as I often say here at Demoslot, you really can’t judge much about a slot simply by looking at its title! So, what do we have here? Yggdrasil’s Gigagong Gigablox is a six-column machine with four rows and 40 fixed paylines. The reels feature wilds, super wilds, multipliers, and free spin-triggering scatter symbols, making for a fairly well-rounded feature set. The RTP is stated as being 96% – bang on the industry average – whilst the maximum win is quoted only as being ‘over 5000x the total stake’. I’m guessing from that description that the largest possible win is probably only a touch over 5000x, but it’s impossible to be certain in these scenarios.
If you haven’t come across a Gigablox slot before, you’re in for a treat, as these games feature giant symbols that can drop in as 2×2, 3×3, or 4×4 blocks instead of the regular one-position symbols. This particular take on the formula adds super wilds into the mix, which expand to cover entire reels whenever they land. The gong symbol is an instant-pay symbol and works separately from the scatters, which are used to trigger the free spin bonus round. There’s also a bonus buy facility on offer as well for 100x the current stake.

Gigagong Gigablox Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I’ve always been curious about the whole Gigablox thing – various developers have used this term to describe giant symbols in their games over the past few years, making me wonder if they are all related or if its simply a case of the original developer of the mechanic not bothering to trademark it. Here are a few examples: Dragonblox Gigablox, Buffalo Blox, and let’s not forget 4ThePlayer’s awesome 90K Yeti Gigablox slot as well! This is even the second Gigablox title I have reviewed this week, which is an unusual situation – perhaps the format is becoming more popular, or maybe it is just a coincidence. Whatever the case, these games offer great gameplay and reasonably high payouts. So where does Gigagong Gigablox fit into the mix?
Our highest-paying symbol is the wild, offering 40x the total bet for a six of a kind combination, which also matches the highest-paying symbol – it’s one of those strange gold coins with a square hole in the middle. I’m sure they have a proper name, but I’m afraid I haven’t come across it yet! The Yin/Yang symbol is next, offering 16x for all six symbols, followed by a purple scroll and a blue fan, both at 8x, and that’s the lot as far as the high-paying symbols are concerned. Six aces will get you 6x your current stake back in winnings, a fair bit more than the other low-paying symbols, which offer 3.2x or 2x the current stake for Kings/Queens and Jacks, respectively.
The betting range available in this game is enormous, with minimum/maximum permitted wagers of €0.20 and €400.00 per round, respectively. The only trouble here is that the steps become unreasonably large once you get near the upper end of the range – you can only bet €200, €300, or €400, for example, with nothing in between – even if I had the bankroll to place bets of this size, I’d definitely want much more flexibility as to how much I can spend on each round.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of Gigagong Gigablox takes place on a 6×4 playfield spanned by 40 fixed paylines. That’s not a lot of lines for such a large reel set, but the upshot is that the paytable wins do seem fairly reasonable compared to many other six-reel slots.
Super Wild Symbols
The super wild symbol can appear on any reel, and when that occurs, it will expand to cover all four possible rows. Theoretically, it should be possible to hit one of these on all six reels at once – that would still only return 1,60x the current stake, however, so it would not be an instant jackpot win.
Gong Symbols
The gong symbol is an instant pay symbol that will split into different parts whenever it lands. Each part will pay the value of the base stake multiplied by the current global gong multiplier shown at the top-right of the reel set. This process can repeat should there be more than one gong symbol on the reels.
Gigagong Gigablox Slot Bonus Features
The large playfield size used in Gigagong Gigablox changes the calculus as far as the number of scatters required to obtain a set of free spins is concerned – the minimum number is six, and it’s even possible to hit up to 10 scatter symbols under certain conditions. The number of scatter symbols determines the number of free spins you will be awarded.
Free Spins
At the start of every free spin feature, the global gong multiplier will randomly change to a new value guaranteed to be higher than it was during the base game. The reels used in this mode also contain many more super wild and gong s symbols, ensuring that this is easily the most profitable part of the game.
The best part about the free spins feature is that the gong multiplier does not reset between spins – you can also re-trigger the bonus round by hitting more scatter symbols whilst the feature is in play.
Bonus Buy
Want to access the best part of the game immediately? Yggdrasil offers you such a possibility for 100x the normal price per spin. That’s about average for a bonus buy feature nowadays and feels fairly reasonable to my mind.
Pros
- Gigablox isn’t really any different to stacks of regular symbols, but somehow they seem to be much more fun as a gameplay mechanic.
- Gong symbols can offer some decent prizes even during the base game.
Cons
- The top prize of “over 5,000x” is only average by modern standards.
- The bonus round doesn’t offer much over the base game – if you only hit the minimum of six scatters required to trigger the bonus, it’s especially hard to hit a big win.
Final Thoughts
The last Gigablox title I looked at was Notre Dame Tales, and whilst that had a lower maximum win than this game, it was still superior in many other ways. I guess it really depends on what the most important things about a slot are to you, but for me, this machine is something of a miss by Yggdrasil.
