Gladiator Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The base theme of this game surrounds the obvious gladiator topic, although it utilises the highly popular film from 2000 to do so. While there aren’t many others that utilise this specific film for their basis, there are plenty of other games that take various movies or TV series and implement them into their setup. You could play Game of Thrones 243 Ways from Microgaming, for example. Within the Gladiator slot game, you’ll get to see a still of the movie in the background, depicting Russell Crowe in his titular role. Soundtrack-wise, it does fall a little short, as Playtech has only added basic noises to it. Yet the graphics are pretty good for a slot released in 2008.
Speaking of which, you will see a selection of symbols appearing on the five reels of the game. These start out with the standard playing card additions, which run from the minimum of 9 and increase up to the A. These ones represent the slot’s lowest paying symbol inclusions. Characters from the film then make up the remaining symbols, starting with Proximo and Juba. There is also the addition of Gracchus, who is followed by the character of Lucilla. Yet it is Commodus, portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix in the film, who represents the premium symbol. From him, you can win a maximum payout of 5,000x your bet.
Wild symbols in the slot are represented by the gladiator helmet, and if this one shows up anywhere it will substitute for all other symbols previously mentioned. Therefore, it can prove to be quite beneficial to your rewards. Three of them also begins the Gladiator Jackpot Bonus, which we’ll get to shortly.
Your first process in this slot is to select a specific wager level. This is done first of all by choosing the number of paylines you want to be active and then moving across to the + and – buttons for the Line Bet. Remember that the theoretical payout for the Gladiator slot is 91.46% including the progressive jackpot, which is quite low in comparison to today’s releases. Within this game, you can choose from a line bet of between €0.01 and €1, resulting in a maximum wager of €25 per spin.
Base Game & Modifiers
The five reels and three rows of this slot provide the interface for the 25 paylines, which can be customised as you see fit. Only the highest win per active payline will pay out, and win combinations pay from left to right only, except for scatter rewards which pay from any location. Payline wins are multiplied by the line bet in place, and at least three identical symbols need to be present in a combination for it to payout.
Gladiator Jackpot Bonus
Spinning three of the game’s wild symbols into view anywhere on reels two, three and four will activate the Gladiator Jackpot Bonus round. This sees nine random helmets chosen, featuring different prize values behind them, either Gold, Silver or Bronze. You choose from them, and all wins are added up. If you win nine gold helmets, then you win the game’s progressive jackpot amount instead of a standard bonus win. This bonus round can be triggered during the base game and free spins. However, the progressive jackpot cannot be won if it is activated during free spins, only a bonus amount. The current jackpot can be seen at the top-right corner of the reels.
Gladiator Slot Free Spins Feature
Known in the Gladiator online slot as the Colosseum Bonus, the free spins feature is activated by spinning three of the scatter symbols into view anywhere on the game screen. Starting at the bottom row, you pick stones to reveal your prizes. Each row has different prizes, in the following way:
- Row 1 – different numbers of free spins.
- Row 2 – Free spins with multipliers.
- Row 3 – Extra scatter symbols.
- Row 4 – Extra wild symbols.
For each of the picks, you win a prize and one of four options, which are:
- Collect all of the prizes in the picked column.
- Pick another prize in the row above.
- Pick another prize in the same row.
- Collect the prize and continue to free spins.
During this free spins round, if the Commodus symbol appears on the third reel, you will be rewarded with an extra three free spins
Gladiator Slot Review Final Thoughts
Playtech has really nicely brought this film to life in the form of a slot game, so fans of the movie will undoubtedly find this to be an appealing title to play, too. The inclusion of the inbuilt features where wilds, free spins and a progressive jackpot are concerned add to the general attractiveness of Gladiator as well. Graphics-wise, it’s certainly a product of its time, but this doesn’t stop it from being an entertaining game to spin the reels of and enjoy.
