Gladiatoro (Elk Studios) Slot Demo & Review

The minotaur may have been a feared creature in Greek Mythology, but in the world of online slots, it’s an iconic image for one of the leading game developers in the industry. If you haven’t guessed who I’m talking about yet, it is, of course, Elk Studios, and that can only mean one thing, another game is about to be added to their Toro franchise. This time around, it’s titled the Gladiatoro slot and features 5-reels, 178 ways to win, an RTP of 94%, and a maximum win of 10,000x bet.

Typically, with an Elk release, there are several features included in the gameplay, and Gladiatoro is certainly no different. We’ve got the classic Walking Toro Wild, then Diaz, a collector symbol that will grab the value of all coins in view, and a Matador symbol, too, where two or more in view at the same time as Toro will trigger the Toro Goes Wild feature. The headline bonus of the game and the one you’ll want to trigger is the Gladiator Bonus. During this round, players are awarded three respins where extra multiplier coins and special modifier symbols can land, giving you the best chance of hitting that 10k jackpot.

We’re set to join Elk and Toro on his latest adventure as he goes up against his ultimate enemy, the emperor. We’re going to need your help, so if you want to do your very own Russell Crowe training montage, then fire up our Gladiatoro slot demo and take it for a spin; it’s free to play below.

Gladiatoro Paytable
Gladiatoro paytable

You have to admit that for an online slot character, Toro has been on quite the adventure to date. If you’re unfamiliar with these travels or maybe just need a gentle reminder, I’d suggest checking out both the Wild Toro 2 slot and, if you’re partial to expanding symbol slot games, the Book of Toro is worth a few spins, too. This latest escapade may just be the best of them all though, as in Gladiatoro, he’s heading to the most famous fighting arena of all time. Exciting stuff, right? I think we’d better move on then and find out just what Toro has in store for us pay-wise.

We’re over at the paytable, and let’s get down to business. The highest paying symbol is the Rose valued at 5x bet for a winning combination of five. The Helmet follows at 2.5x, with the Melon next at 1.2x, and the final premium symbol is the Jug, paying 0.9x for a completed line of five. Dropping to the low pays, we find they are represented by Roman numerals, and we have the M awarding 0.8x, a C paying 0.6x, the X at 0.5x, and last but not least, the V paying 0.4x for a five of a kind win. The game includes a Wild symbol in the form of the Shield and Sword, with this substituting for all regular symbols.

The staking structure sticks to the Elk format to a tee, with the minimum price to play starting at €0.20 a spin and the max bet on the game reaching a high of €100. There’s a total of 10 other bets to choose from within this range, and players should easily be able to find a stake relevant to their bankroll.

Gladiatoro Slot Base Game

Gladiatoro Base Game
Gladiatoro base game

The initial gameplay on Elk’s Gladiatoro slot begins on a reel matrix of 5×4 with 178 ways to win. This can be increased further, as we’ll touch on shortly. As for creating a winning spin, you’ll need to match three symbols on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel.

Toro

If Toro lands on the reels, he will become a walking wild. Furthermore, he will double the value of all coins that he passes over.

Diaz

Diaz is a collector symbol. He will collect the value of all coins visible on the reel set and will pay out the collected values multiplied by the current bet.

Matador & Toro Goes Wild

If two more Matador symbols land simultaneously with a Toro Wild, the Toro Goes Wild feature will trigger. This will see Toro hunt down and bounce the Matadors off the reels. As Toro moves, he will leave wild symbols in his path, giving you the potential to hit a decent win or two along the way.

Level Up Coin

If the level-up coin lands on the reels, it will shoot an arrow upwards and increase the number of paylines up to a maximum of 6 rows and 340 ways to win.

Gladiatoro Slot Bonus Features

Gladiatoro Bonus Feature
Gladiatoro bonus feature

The main feature in the game is the Gladiator Bonus, which is triggered when 3 or more coins land in view. All coins that activate the bonus will remain in place for the duration of the feature, and players will be awarded with three respins to begin.

Gladiator Bonus

The Gladiator bonus is played on a special set of reels that only feature coins and modifier symbols. Each time a new symbol lands in view, the spin count will reset to three. If three consecutive spins fail to deliver a new symbol, the bonus will end. The following symbols can appear during the bonus.

  • Coins: Golden coins with numbers representing a multiplier value.
  • Standard Matador: upgrades a random of coins and spins out on the next spin.
  • Persistent Matador: upgrades a random number of coins at the end of each spin until the bonus ends.
  • Standard Diaz: Collects the value of all coins on the grid and turns into a coin himself with the collected value.
  • Persistent Diaz: Collects the value of all coins in play at the end of every spin until the bonus ends.

* If Toro lands during the bonus feature, he will award respins and move leftwards until he falls off the first reel. This series of spins will not deduct anything from your respin total.

X-iter

The following bonus buy options are available if the X-iter feature is active in your jurisdiction.

  • Bonus Hunt: More than triple the chance of triggering the feature at the cost of 3x the current bet.
  • Matador Respin: One spin with two Matador symbols guaranteed at the cost of 10x the current bet.
  • Diaz: One spin with one guaranteed Diaz symbol at the cost of 25x the current bet.
  • Bonus Game: Entry to the feature for the cost of 100x the bet.
  • Super Bonus: Guaranteed entry to the bonus with one persistent symbol for the cost of 500x bet.

Pros

  • The features in the base are capable of paying a decent return.
  • Perfect for slot players who love a respin feature bonus round.

Cons

  • The RTP of 94% is low compared to other online slots.
  • Low paytable wins.

Gladiatoro Slot Review Final Thoughts

The last time we checked out an Elk release, it was their outstanding Pirots 2 slot, and they've created another fun game we've enjoyed playing today in the shape of Gladiatoro. I've got a feeling that just like myself, you'll like the bonus round on this slot, too, especially if you're into your respin feature games such as Money Train 4.There is the downside of the 94% RTP, but that's pretty much standard across their entire catalogue of slot games these days, so if that doesn't put you off, then go give this one a try.
