Regarding features, Gods of ASGard contains several modifiers based on Norse gods, including Freya, Loki, Thor, and Odin. Gods Of ASGard Megaways Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The most famous Norse mythology-themed online slot must surely be Microgaming’s hit Thunderstruck franchise, although that developer hasn’t shown it any love for several years now. That’s a real shame, but it isn’t what we are here to discuss! The art style utilised in Iron Dog’s take on the ASGard theme reminds me a lot of the original Thunderstruck slot, with many prominent, colourful cartoon-like symbols. However, it is a very different kind of game under the hood.
Over to the paytable, the highest-paying symbol is what appears to be a signet ring with a return of 15x your stake for six-of-a-kind. Thor’s hammer takes second place, although the drop in return is huge as it only pays 6x your bet for all six. After these two super-premium symbols, you have a pendant, a huge beer jug, and a horn. These three symbols pay 2.5x, 2x, and 2x, respectively, for a six-of-a-kind combination, after which you get to the regular royal symbols, which pay between 6x and 10x your stake for all six. There are wilds and multiplier wilds, but these symbols only appear on reels two and three, so there is no way to hit a full pay way. The scatter symbol does appear on all six reels but, again, does not have any payout of its own.
Gods of ASGard online slot allows you to bet as low as €0.10 per spin if you wish, which is a minimal amount for a game that offers more than 200,000 pay ways. The maximum bet is set at €50.00 per spin, but I would advise against betting anywhere near that high on a high-volatility slot such as this.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game takes place on six reels, each of which can divide into between two and seven segments for each spin. There is an additional row along the top of the screen between reels two and five, creating four extra spots for symbols that scroll horizontally rather than the usual vertical arrangement. This is a setup that is common to a large number of Megaways games, except for the fact that reels two through five can still divide into seven segments. This change gives Gods of ASGard Megaways video slot the ability to divide into 200,704 Megaways rather than the usual limit of 117,649.
The highest-paying signet ring symbol awards a win for two matching symbols, whilst the remainder of the paytable requires at least three matching symbols from left to right to award a win. There are several “God” modifiers which can only appear on the horizontal reel at the top of the screen and award the following bonuses:
Freya Modifier
Freya will transform between two and four random symbols into wilds. She will only choose symbols on reels two, three, and four, but those are probably where you want them anyway, as it guarantees you will have the best chance of hitting a winning combination.
Loki Modifier
Known as the mischievous one of the Norse gods, Loki will transform between two and four random symbols on reels one through four into a random symbol that he selects from reel one. This will guarantee you a win, but for it to be a big win, you will have to get lucky and hope Loki picks a symbol that is also present on the final two reels. I was pretty lucky with this one during testing. Hopefully, you will be too!
Thor Modifier
Thor is usually regarded as the most powerful of all of the Norse gods, and in this game, he uses his power to convert three or four symbols into the highest-paying symbol. Thor will only convert symbols appearing on reels one through three, which is precisely where you want them. I definitely appreciate the fact that Iron Dog has made sure to make these modifiers appear as useful as possible to the player!
Odin Modifier
Finally, the last god of the bunch is Odin, who will add two multiplier wilds to reels two and three on your behalf. During the base game, these multiplier wilds will have a fixed 2x multiplier. During free spins, their worth will continue rising for the duration of the bonus round.
Gods Of ASGard Megaways Slot Free Spins Feature
Scatter symbols appear on all six reels in the Gods of ASGard online slot. You will need a minimum of three scatters to trigger an eight-spin bonus round, with extra free spins awarded for more triggering scatters. Four scatters will award 10 spins, five awards 15, and all six grant you the maximum of 20 free spins.
The free spins feature in Gods of ASGard works similarly to most other Megaways slots, with an ascending multiplier that increases in value each time a winning combination is hit. The longer your bonus round, the better your chances are of reaching a super-high multiplier.
Fortunately, Iron Dog has kindly included the ability to re-trigger the bonus round – you can win 4, 6, 8, or 12 extra free spins for 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters, respectively, and I did score a few retriggers during testing which shows these events aren’t infrequent.
All four of the god modifiers can still be activated during free spins. Of course, they are especially valuable here, with the ascending multiplier boosting their prizes even more than during the base game.
Bonus Buy
It’s difficult to say if this part of the game is a good value, as the beta version does not specify precisely how much each available option will cost. You should be able to purchase anywhere from the minimum to the maximum number of free spins in the final product, and based on Iron Dog’s previous games; I would expect the prices to be reasonable.
Gods Of ASGard Megaways Slot Review Final Thoughts
Gods of ASGard Megaways is another excellent take on the Megaways payout mechanic, with enough changes to justify choosing to play this game over the original Bonanza Megaways online slot that introduced the Megaways system. It’s not quite there yet – the current beta is missing a couple of key features – but we do not doubt that Iron Dog will have things ironed out soon. We’re expecting this to be another winner from them upon release.
