Game Overview
If Harrison Ford were given a pound/dollar every time his Indiana Jones character has been imitated for online slot games, he’d be a wealthy man. Okay, so he’s already rich, so let’s just say he’d be twice as rich instead. On Playtech’s latest release, Gold Hit & Link™: Tiger Jones, the developer couldn’t be more obvious that Tiger Jones is essentially a Tiger Indiana Jones. He has the hat, is in some far-flung ancient jungle, and is holding an ancient relic he has no doubt had to risk his life to find. Still, this looks like a fun take on a theme that’s been done to death over the years. Gold Hit & Link™: Tiger Jones is a 5-reel Playtech slot with 4,608 ways to win, a 95.45% RTP, and a disappointingly low max win of 1,000x the stake.
With such a low max win, you’d hope there are some good bonus features at least, and after a playtest, I can tell you there are. A money collect mechanic in play during the base game can land you cash prizes of up to 10x your stake or jackpot prizes of up to 1,000x. There are also two bonus games, one of which is a free spins bonus with coin symbols that are sticky throughout, and another that’s an innovative take on the Hold & Win style bonus game. The latter features unlockable rows and the chance to land a Grand Jackpot worth 1,000x the stake.
Ready to join this Tiger Jones as he hunts down treasures for himself and payouts for you? Then, you’ll probably want to power up the Gold Hit & Link™: Tiger Jones slot demo below.
Gold Hit & Link Tiger Jones slot theme, stakes, pays & symbols
From Riche Wilde in the Book of Dead slot series to John Hunter and Gonzo, it’s fair to say we’ve seen quite a few Jones-esque characters in slot games over the years. Considering the examples I gave have featured in some of the best slots ever created, it’s not difficult to see why so many other developers have used this type of theme in an attempt to follow suit. The question is whether Tiger Jones becomes the next slot superstar or he is a character, like many others, is soon forgotten about.
Turning our attention to the paytable on Gold Hit & Link™: Tiger Jones, Tiger himself offers the best returns with a five-symbol combo rewards 25x the stake. The Tiger artefact and Hat are up next, returning up to 10x, whilst the Pistol and Bracelet both share a 7.5x top return. Down to the low pays, you’ll find the Ace and King rewarding up to 5x, and the Queen, Jack, and Ten paying up to 4x. A Wild symbol can also land anywhere on the reels and will help create winning combinations by substituting for regular symbols.
Before spinning the reels on Gold Hit & Link Tiger Jones, you can choose from several stakes, ranging from a minimum of €0.20 up to a whopping €500.00. However, the upper limit will likely be restricted to a lower value at most online casinos.
Gold Hit & Link Tiger Jones slot base game
The reel configuration used on the Gold Hit & Link™: Tiger Jones is rather unorthodox. Five reels are laid out in a 4-4-6-6-8 position format. That configuration delivers 4,608 ways to win, and you’ll receive a payout whenever three or more matching symbols land on consecutive reels beginning from the leftmost reel.
Gold Hit
The following cash coins can land during the base game and the free spins bonus:
- Cash Prize Coins: Hold random values of 1x, 1.5x, 2x, 2.5x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 10x the stake.
- Jackpot Prize Coins: Hold jackpot values of Mini (20x), Minor (50x), Major (200x), or Mega (1,000x).
When any of the above land on the reels simultaneously as a ‘Collect’ symbol, their values are collected and then paid.
All prize symbols remain sticky on the reels for 3 spins, which are displayed below their reels. If an entire reel is filled with Coin symbols before a Collect symbol collects them, their values are paid.
Ante Bet
To the left of the reels is a switch you can use to activate the Ante Bet feature. It costs 25% on top of your current spin bet and gives you a higher chance of triggering the Gold Link Bonus feature.
Gold Hit & Link Tiger Jones slot bonus features
There are two bonus games on the Gold Hit & Link™: Tiger Jones slot, a free spins bonus and a hold & win bonus called the Gold Link feature. Let’s learn about each of them below.
Free Spins Feature
The free spins bonus triggers whenever you land three or more Bonus symbols on the reels during the base game. In return for three, four, or five scatter symbols, you’ll receive 10, 12, and 15 free spins, respectively.
During this bonus game, any prize symbols that land will now stay locked on the reels indefinitely and can be collected multiple times as spins reveal Collect symbols. Furthermore, if a reel is filled with coins, you’ll receive a spin of a wheel that will reward a multiplier of up to 5x or a Gold Link symbol that triggers the Gold Link feature. If it is a multiplier value, it is applied to the prize symbols on that reel.
Gold Link Feature
The Gold Link feature triggers if a Gold Link Coin is collected during the base game or free spins bonus.
The bonus takes place on a new set of reels, with an unlocked 5×4 grid sat below a locked 2×4 grid and a single position above that. All the locked rows have two padlocks except the top single position, which has one.
You receive three re-spins of reels that can land cash prize symbols, jackpots, or Gold Link symbols. The latter unlocks the next available padlock on the locked reels. The top three rows on the 2×4 reels hold a multiplier of 2x, 3x, and 5x, respectively. Any coins that land on those rows have their values multiplied by that value.
If the single-position row at the top is unlocked, you receive an additional 3 re-spins, giving you a chance to win the Grand jackpot, worth 1,000x the stake. During the feature, Collect symbols can land that collect all visible cash values and keep that value. Once the re-spins counter reaches zero, you’re paid the values of all cash prizes on the reels.
Pros
- Great graphics and a couple of enjoyable features.
Cons
- 1000x for a jackpot is far too low by today's online slot standards.
Gold Hit & Link Tiger Jones Slot Review
Gold Hit & Link™: Tiger Jones is a great-looking slot, and I enjoyed the two bonus games and its overall gameplay. My biggest bugbear is the extremely low maximum win, with the 1,000x the stake jackpot enough reason to turn some players away from an otherwise enjoyable slot game.
