Red Tiger Gaming’s title Good Luck Clusterbsuter is a grid slot with a 95.73% RTP, and a billion-round simulation of the game revealed a maximum win of just shy of 20,000x your bet. Not bad going, I’d say! This isn’t your typical leprechaun inspired game either – don’t expect anything similar to Rainbow Riches, for example, and the grid used on this slot is just insanely huge.

The ”Clusterbuster” part of the title relates to the inactive cluster of locked tiles that occupies the centre of the grid, parts of which will unlock when winning combinations are formed adjacent to it. Unlocking the entirety of the central cluster will reveal a special prize. Four special leprechaun wilds are present in the four corners of the game, and unlike other regular symbols, these will not break and be removed from the grid when they form part of a winning combination. Leprechauns have been a popular theme for online slots ever since the first of the Rainbow Riches games, but other aspects of Irish culture have since become common themes for online slots, too, leading to a whole sub-genre of Irish Slots. As ever for a Red Tiger game, the presentation of Good Luck Clusterbuster is top-notch, but the backdrop is somewhat bland – the leprechaun aspect of the theme could undoubtedly have been done a little better. Perhaps the developer didn’t want to go overboard on this side of things. However, we have seen a whole of cartoon-like leprechaun games by now, after all.

Wins are awarded for hitting clusters of adjacent matching symbols, starting with the golden four-leaved clover, which will pay you 250x the current bet for a cluster of 20 symbols. You won’t see clusters of 20 very often, though, so it’s worth knowing that clusters of 10-14 symbols will pay you 40x, and clusters of 5/6 symbols return 10x your bet. We’ll give the same numbers for each of the following symbols to keep things straightforward. The jug of beer pays 100x/20x/5x for 20/10/5 symbols, respectively, followed by the pipe at 50x/10x/3x and the horseshoe at 30x/6x/2x. The lower-paying symbols are all represented by what looks like hats – that makes more sense than thimbles to me, at least; and all four of these are worth 20x/4x/1x for the same numbers of adjacent symbols described above.

The betting range begins at €0.10, as is the standard for most Red Tiger games, whilst the maximum bet of €4.00 per round is a little on the low side but is probably sufficient for a game with the potential to pay out 20,000x your bet!

Base Game & Modifiers

The regular gameplay of Good Luck Clusterbuster works similarly to many other grid slots, but the large fixed symbol in the centre of the reels, along with the four wilds in each of the corners, does make things a little bit more interesting.

Clusterbuster

An inactive cluster of locked tiles is present in the middle of the slot. The outer tiles of this inactive cluster will unlock when a winning combination occurs adjacent to the edges of the clusterbuster symbol. Opening the entire clusterbuster symbol will award the free spins bonus round; to achieve this, you will need to score repeated winning combinations adjacent to this central position.

Leprechaun Wilds

The four leprechaun wilds are located toward the four corners of the grid. Winning combinations are normally removed from the grid immediately, allowing new symbols to drop in and give you the chance to win multiple times from a single paid spin.

Wins that include a leprechaun wild will also behave in this way, but the leprechaun wild will not disappear. It can therefore be used as part of a further winning combination if sufficient matching symbols happen to drop in adjacent to the leprechaun wild symbol.

Most online slots use scatter symbols to award their free spins feature, but not this one. Instead, you will need to unlock the pot of gold in the centre of the reel set by hitting several winning combinations adjacent to the “clusterbuster” in the middle of the screen.

The free spin bonus round begins with five free spins on your counter, but before these spins start, the pot of gold will be removed from the centre of the screen, creating additional space for regular symbols to create bigger blocks of adjacent symbols.

During this mode, the four leprechaun wild symbols will roam around the screen in between free spins. Each time a leprechaun wild forms part of a winning combination in this part of the game, it will gain a 1x multiplier. There is no limit to how high these multipliers can reach, but with just five free spins, you will need to hit lots of consecutive winning combinations to get much higher than around 10x.

The free spins feature also has a unique modifier that is not present during the base game. If a wild symbol is near a group of matching symbols, a “Lucky wind blow” can occur randomly, moving the wild symbol closer to those matching symbols to help increase the size of your win or join multiple sets of matching symbols together to create a much larger win. For example, say you have two sets of five matching symbols with a wild in close proximity – the lucky wind blow modifier can activate, moving the wild between the two sets of symbols, creating a 10x group of adjacent symbols.

I love grid slots, and this isn’t a bad attempt – it isn’t up to the standard of some of Play’N’Go’s best efforts in the genre but is still well worth a few spins, especially with a humongous 20,000x jackpot up for grabs. Recommended!
