Honey Rush 100 (Play'n Go) Slot Demo & Review

Ants and bees are two of the most fascinating species to inhabit our pale blue dot and have presented countless generations of children, scientists, and amateur researchers alike with a wealth of knowledge and questions over the years. Ah, so many questions! Don’t expect to get all of your answers here though, I’m afraid – the grid used in Play’n Go’s Honey Rush 100 has 37 unique positions, but where does the 100 come in? How can you possibly win amounts like 50,000x your total bet? And all within an industry-standard 96% RTP? Alas, come down the ant hill with me as we go on an earth-shifting dive to determine how Play’N’Go just turned a molehill (well, an ant hill!) into a mountain.

Of course, you can’t create a game with the potential to generate profits such as these without some seriously hardcore features lurking underneath the surface – so how exactly has Honey Rush 100 pulled it off? Let’s start with the “Colony Feature”, which has three levels – the Drone level has a maximum cluster size of seven positions, whilst the worker and queen levels boost this to 10-15 and 20-37 positions, respectively. That’s a good start, but not even close to being enough… aha, here comes my favourite saviour! Sticky wild symbols can multiply wins by up to 100x, and a full screen of wilds will pay you 500x your total bet. What happens if you multiply those two magic numbers together? Ah yes… 50,000x the total bet! How likely such a combination might be, however, is open to debate, but it’s undeniably possible, and the technique which makes such wins possible strikes me as being relatively… perhaps even reasonably likely!

If you were an ant, would you choose to switch allegiance to the new queen of the hill? Or would you duly walk in circles until you died of exhaustion to prove your loyalty? I think it would strongly depend on how cute the new queen was… What? Am I shamelessly materialistic? Ah, well, that’s life, I guess! I’ve probably talked a little too much about ants in this review so far – after all, the name of the game is “Honey Rush 100”! With that in mind, let’s turn our attention to some of the many bee-focused online slots instead! Bee Hive Bonanza sure isn’t a bad one, scoring 8.3 in our review here at Demoslot, whilst Stakelogic’s slightly less impressive Wild Buzz may not have had quite as much going for it, but a score of 7.5 certainly isn’t terrible. The third match in our review library for the term ‘honey’ doesn’t have much to do with Bees, but I’d still recommend reading about Royal Xmas if you have the time, if only to find out just what the game has to do with honey. Don’t underestimate its importance!!

A full grid of 37 symbols is possible with any of the symbols in this game, with the highest payout reserved for a honeycomb of pure diamonds… rather apt, don’t you think? That will get you 50x your total bet back in winnings, a little more than the gold, silver, and bronze coins, with maximum payouts of 40x, 30x, and 20x the total bet, respectively. There are four more lower-paying symbols, all represented by flowers, and all share equal returns of 10x the total bet for a full honeycomb of 37 symbols.

Play’N’Go’s usual quick bet selection system is all-present and correct once again here, with minimum/maximum bets of €0.10 and €50.00 per spin, respectively. There are plenty of options within his range, giving players off all sized budgets the opportunity to try the game in real money mode if they wish.

But how exactly does a slot work with a honeycomb-shaped grid? Symbols fall onto the screen in the usual manner as with any other online slot, and any cluster of five or more matching symbols landing anywhere on the playfield will cause them to be removed and stored in the rush meter. When the rush meter reaches one of its three pre-defined charge levels, you’ll enter the colony feature.

Rush Meter

After 30 symbols are eliminated during a single game round, the Drone Colony will be triggered (see below). In this mode, it’s much easier to accumulate larger groups of winning symbols, making it easier to progress to the Worker Colony (60 symbols) or the Queen Colony (90 Symbols)

Overcharge

If the maximum number of symbols (90) is reached in the Rush Meter, it will go into overcharge mode. Every 15 symbols collected whilst in this mode will trigger the middle symbol to upgrade – this process will repeat until the centre symbol is the most valuable it can be.

Once the maximum number of upgrades has been reached, the global multiplier will begin to increase by +3 for each subsequent boost. After the Drone Colony has played, any wilds that reach the bottom of the grid will boost the multiplier by a further +2. In Worker or Queen Colony modes, this multiplier increases to +3. The maximum possible multiplier permitted is +100.

Honey Rush 100 Slot Bonus Features

Honey Rush 100 Bonus Round
Honey Rush 100 bonus round

This game does not feature a free spin based bonus round or anything like that, but the special features that it does have make adequate replacements, in my view. These are:

Colony Feature

Activates when the rush meter reaches the pre-determined levels described in the previous section. The Drone Colony will clone the central symbol to cover a 7-symbol area with a hexagon of matching symbols surrounding the central core.

The Worker Colony is a more elaborate design with 15 matching positions, again, all clones of the central core position. Finally, the Queen Colony covers the entire lattice and guarantees a cluster of between 20 and 37 matching symbols.

Sticky Wild Feature

The wild symbol is a substitute symbol that pays 500x the total bet for a 37-symbol cluster. It’s also a sticky wild – my favourite kind! If a sticky wild is part of a winning cluster, it will move downwards to the free positions, and if touching the bottom edge, it will drop in the honey pot, and the multiplier will increase by +1. After the Drone Colony has activated, the multiplier increases to +2; in later Colonies, the multiplier reaches a multiplier of +3.

Pros

  • Ability to win 50,000x your bet is impressive, especially for a Play’N’Go slot.
  • An interesting new take on the video slot formula
  • Sticky wilds are the best kinds of wilds!

Cons

  • Regular wins can be a little underwhelming – you really do need those colonies
  • No “true” bonus round.

Final Thoughts

This is a really unique game with a huge jackpot – it will be interesting to see if players will take to this new style of gameplay, as it’s certainly a whole lot of fun, and the mammoth top prize is one of the best you’ll find in any game by this developer.
