There are dozens of football-themed slots out there today; some of the most well-known of these include Microgaming’s Football Star and Football Star Deluxe, NetEnt’s Football Champions Cup, and Saucify’s Football Fever, which was released to coincide with the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The football genre always gets a boost whenever a major tournament is around the corner, but it isn’t clear if iSoftBet could have created Hot Shots Megaways to tie in with this year’s FIFA World Cup. All of the games mentioned above have an immaculate presentation, but Hot Shots Megaways can compete with the best of them in this regard – the game looks and sounds great, whilst the animation was smooth on every device I tested it on.
We’ve learned not to expect too much from the paytables of Megaways slots by now – these games don’t rely on the headline figures to create their biggest wins, instead falling back on their enormous number of possible pay ways. Despite this, the purple giraffe character (yes, you did read that correctly!) has a return of 40x your stake in this game for a full pay way of six-of-a-kind – much higher than the top-paying symbol of most other Megaways games. Things do drop off quickly, however, as the red pig symbol takes the second-placed spot paying just 8x your bet for all six, whilst the blue chicken pays just 2.5x, and the yellow tiger is worth only 2x your bet for six-of-a-kind. I’m not sure why iSoftBet went for these unusual animal characters in their soccer slot. Still, it makes it more interesting (and fun!) than the typical human players we see in all of the other games mentioned in the last paragraph.
iSoftBet has opted for their usual wager selection setup; open the menu and choose “bet”, and you can change your current coin size to determine the stakes. Each round costs 25 coins, and the smallest possible coin size of a penny gives a minimum bet of €0.25 whilst the maximum is set at €25.00 per round.

The base game of Hot Shots Megaways is similar to most other Megaways online slots, but iSoftBet has decided not to bother with the horizontal row this time. Instead, each of the six reels will divide into between two and seven “rows” on each spin, permitting a maximum of 117,649 Megaways.
As a cascading reels slot, you can win several times from each paid spin in Hot Shots Megaways. Winning combinations are immediately removed from play, allowing new symbols to drop in from the top of the screen. This process will repeat until no more winning pay ways are visible.
Hot Shots Cup Modifier
This modifier can trigger after any spin – win or lose – and a huge cup will appear over the top of the entire reel set. The Hot Shots Cup modifier guarantees you will receive a big win or a bonus round, with both seeming equally likely during my testing.
Max Megaways Modifier
It’s hard to say if this one is genuinely a modifier or if the “Max Megaways” text simply appears whenever all six reels are randomly determined to include seven rows. Either way, this mod does not guarantee a win, but with all 117,649 pay ways active, you would need to be extremely unlucky not to score at least a couple of three-of-a-kind wins. I won something every time this modifier triggered, including one huge win.
Goal Scatters Modifier
The third and final modifier can kick in on any paid spin, after which the text “Goal Scatters Added” will appear on top of the reels alongside a number – either 10 or 20. This mod dramatically increases your chances of hitting the VIP Cash Re-spins feature, explained in the next section.
Hot Shots Cup Fever
For an additional cost of 25% per spin, you can enable this mode which lowers the minimum amount of scatters required to trigger a bonus round. Bonus bets often promise to increase your odds of hitting a bonus round with no visible difference to play, so I really like the fact that iSoftBet has chosen to lower the number of scatters required instead. The change in mechanics makes this option feel like a bargain.
Hot Shots Megaways Slot Free Spin Feature
The main bonus round in Hot Shots Megaways is the Cash Re-Spins feature, triggered by hitting five or more gold ball scatters during regular play. If the Hot Shots Cup Fever bet is enabled, the minimum requirement drops to just four scatters instead.
This is a three-spin feature, meaning that you begin with three spins on your counter, and this number will reset back to three each time an additional symbol lands on the screen. The standard reels are replaced in this mode with a simple set containing bet multiples such as 1x or 10x and jackpot scatters. The jackpot scatters are worth 30x your bet (MINI), 100x your bet (MAJOR), or 1,000x (MEGA). You can win each of these jackpots multiple times in a single bonus round or any combination of all three.
If you fill an entire reel with multiplier symbols, the value shown above the reel will be applied to all multipliers below it. If this is the maximum of x7, then this can lead to absolute monster hits.

This game is a great example, and I’d recommend that slots fans of all kinds give this one a spin!
