Hot Zone Wild Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
You might expect iSoftBet to have used some kind of danger zone or radiation theme for a game named Hot Zone Wild. If, like me, that was your expectation, be prepared for some disappointment – the developer has gone for a regular fruit-themed reel set instead. There are bells, diamonds, cherries, and a bunch of other typical slot machine symbols, but it’s all quite unimaginative, to be honest. Making a slot with this type of theme may require less time and resources than putting something entirely original together, but in my view, it makes the game much less attractive to experienced slot players who have seen all of this a thousand times before. Fruit-themed slots can still be worth playing, provided that the features and paytable are good enough, like Big Time Gaming’s title Opal Fruits, for example. So let’s find out if that’s the case here.
The diamond is the highest-paying symbol on the paytable with a return of 25x your bet for every completed pay way of five-of-a-kind, followed by the bell in second place with a payout of 10x for all five. The watermelon slice is worth 7.5x per pay way, whilst the lemon pays 6x, and the cherries will award you 5x your bet for a full pay way of five-of-a-kind. There are also four lower-paying royal symbols with returns of between 0.75x and 1.5x for a five-of-a-kind combination.
The betting range is controlled by changing the coin value from a minimum of €0.01 to a maximum of €10.00. This effectively creates a minimum bet of €0.20 and a maximum of €200.00, as each spin costs 20 coins per play.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game is quite traditional, although the wider than usual playfield of 6×3 symbols does give the game a slightly unique feel. The extra reel makes space for the “hot zone” on reels two through five, creating a 4×3 area for the wilds and bonus symbols to land. This does mean that you cannot possibly hit a full line of wild symbols, but that doesn’t matter, considering that every wild can have a multiplier value of up to 10x!
Multiplier Wilds
The wild symbols only appear in the hot zone, meaning reels two, three, four, and five. There are both standard wilds and multiplier wilds that can boost the value of winning combinations they are part of by up to 10x.
When multiple wild symbols are included in a single winning combination, their values are multiplied together. For example, a 2x wild and a 10x wild will multiply the value of the complete pay way by 20x, making the higher value symbols extremely valuable.
Unfortunately, only one of each value wild can appear in a single spin, so you cannot hit four 10x wilds simultaneously. You could, however, hit a 10x, 5x, 3x, and 2x wild simultaneously, creating a 300x multiplier! I expect the odds of such an occurrence are extremely low, but a full pay line of the top symbol would be worth 7,500x your bet if it did happen.
Hot Zone Wild Slot Bonus Features
The bonus symbols only appear on the hot zone reels, just like the wild symbols. You need at least three bonus symbols to trigger the free spins feature, which will award six free spins, whilst the maximum of four bonus symbols will boost the number of free spins up to eight.
In this mode, each wild that lands on a hot zone reel will contribute towards a multiplier value for the reel itself. If a 2x wild lands on a reel, for example, that reel will then become a 2x multiplier reel and no more 2x wilds can land on it for the rest of the feature.
The current total multiplier from all reels is shown on the left of the reel set, and you can win four additional free spins by hitting a wild on all four hot zone reels. If your total winnings reach 10,000x the current stake, your remaining free spins will be forfeit, and the bonus round will end.
Whilst I was testing the game, I hit one win of over 1,600x my bet. Considering that you can potentially get a 10x multiplier on four of the game’s six reels, a 10,000x jackpot doesn’t seem too far out of reach to me!
Hot Zone Wild Slot Review Final Thoughts
The theme of Hot Zone Wild may be uninspiring, but playing the game is another matter entirely. Despite the relatively low number of features, this is an addicting game that will keep slot fans entertained for a long time. I was impressed at winning the better part of 2,000x my bet just whilst testing the slot, and I will be giving this one a try in real money mode very soon. I recommend that you do the same!
