My initial suspicions were that there must be more to see on the paytable or perhaps in the bonus rounds, but surprisingly neither of those appears to be the case either. A strange name, then, but the specifications look fairly standard – 25 fixed paylines, an RTP of 94.08%/94.35% depending on whether you choose to play the bonus bet, and a maximum win of 12,500x your bet.

So, there isn’t much in the way of Vikings in Hyper Viking Gold – just what is the game’s theme, then? This machine sports a green backdrop, whilst the symbols on the reels are full of pinks, blues, and purples. All the high-paying symbols consist of various golden items – large dollar symbols, bars of gold, and stacks of gold coins. I guess it feels somewhat similar to Twin Spin in some ways, but that game had a much more coherent design than this one. How much are all those pretty gold symbols worth? Well, the huge dollar symbols are the highest-paying out of the bunch, with a return of 25x your bet for a full payline of five-of-a-kind. Next, a stack of three gold bars will fetch you 15x your bet for all five of those symbols, whilst a single gold bar plus a few gold coins are worth 10.5x the current stake. The stack of only gold coins drops this down to 7.5x for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind, after which there are four lower-paying royal symbols with values of between 2x and 4x for full pay lines. Interestingly, the wild symbol has a huge premium attached to it, paying 500x your stake if you can manage to land a full pay line of those symbols.
The bet selection button is located near the left side of the screen. It has two controls for increasing and decreasing between the minimum and maximum limits of €0.10 and €20.00 per round, as well as a hidden “quick bet” menu that can be opened by clicking on your current bet amount as well.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game doesn’t seem particularly interesting to begin with, as it uses the standard 5×3 playfield with 25 fixed paylines and the regular left-to-right payout mechanics. That was until I finished checking out the paytable in depth, however, as that is when I realised that the stacked wild symbols on every reel are incredibly valuable – the biggest hits in this game are available even during base gameplay, a relatively infrequent treat these days, and something which makes the base game of this slot particularly exciting to play.
Win Booster
I’m a little torn on this one – the “Win Booster” is a bonus bet option, but one that comes at a steep price. Enabling this feature will add many additional link and win symbols to the reels, dramatically increasing your odds of hitting a big scatter-pay payout; however, the price of 2.5x the regular cost per spin feels a little too rich for my blood.
Wild Symbols
I’m giving these a special mention here as they are unusually valuable compared to the rest of the symbols on the paytable. Hit a full payline of the wild symbols, and you will win 500x your current stake. Land a full screen of them, however, and you really are in for a treat! This will pay 12,500x your bet instantly, far higher than even the MEGA jackpot.
Hyper Viking Gold Slot Bonus Features
There are two bonus rounds included in Hyper Viking Gold, although the link and win feature could be included in the base game section. However, I feel that it should be included here because it is the only way to win the game’s four big jackpot prizes.
Link & Win Feature
Hit six or more link and win symbols on a single spin to trigger the link and win bonus round, a three-spin feature with the potential for huge wins. The regular symbols which appear during this mode are worth between 1.5x and 20x your current stake, whilst the jackpot prizes can be won multiple times and have a value of 50x, 150x, or 750x your bet.
I probably don’t need to tell you much about how a three-spin bonus round works by now, but on the off chance that you are unfamiliar, you begin with three free spins, and that number will reset back to three each time that a new symbol lands on the reels. If no symbols land on any spin, you will lose a life; lose all three lives, and the feature will end.
Filling the entire screen with bonus symbols during this feature before you run out of lives will add the MEGA jackpot to whatever you have collected so far, worth a fantastic 5,000x your full bet per spin.
Free Spins
Finally, reels two, three, and four include a special “Free Spins” star symbol which will trigger ten free spins whenever all three land on a single spin. This part of the game has one crucial difference to regular play in that the centre three reels can combine to form a 3×3 jumbo symbol.
If you manage to land a link and win symbol in the jumbo position, it will count as nine separate link and win symbols. This is listed specifically on the paytable, suggesting that other symbols which appear as a jumbo block might only behave as a single symbol for payout purposes. I’m happy to report that this is not the case – any symbol which appears as a jumbo block will be evaluated as if it were nine separate matching symbols.
Hitting a wild jumbo block would be enormously exciting as you are guaranteed to score at least a four-of-a-kind win on all 25 paylines, potentially with a few five-of-a-kind lines in there as well. As I was testing this game, my own results were not particularly exciting, but I struggled to hit the free spins very often, so my sample size was only half a dozen or so bonus rounds. Fingers crossed, you will do better!
Hyper Viking Gold Slot Review Final Thoughts
Gameburger Studios should probably come up with a better name for this slot – it has very little to do with the Vikings, although I guess the idea could be that you are searching for lost Viking treasure. Let’s be honest; it doesn’t matter very much when an online slot is as much fun as this one! I’d definitely add this one to your shortlist of new games worth trying.
