Game Overview
The title of this game, In the Rabbit Hole, is sure to make many players think of the legendary children’s tale Alice in Wonderland. One of the most famous sections of that book (and its subsequent TV and film adaptations) sees Alice follow a rabbit down into his burrow. I have little doubt that this theme will be popular with many players, whilst the ten-pay line design is always a favourite with hardcore slot fans. The game has a 95.76% RTP, whilst Red Tiger has calculated the maximum win to be middle-of-the-road 4230.7x your bet; not a bad sum, for sure, but certainly not the biggest prize available in slots today.
Over to the features next, and the game boasts three different free spin bonus rounds. The first adds extra wilds to the reel set, while the second offers a guaranteed win on every spin. The third and final mode combines both previous features whilst throwing sticky wild symbols into the mix… nice!
I’m sure you can guess what I’m about to ask you this time… Are you ready for a trip down the rabbit hole? I thought so! It’s time to load up our free demo slot of In the Rabbit Hole below, and no coming back up until you have collected sacks of cash. Do you hear me?!
In The Rabbit Hole Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I think that most of us are more than familiar with the story of Alice in Wonderland by now, and the chances are you have already played at least one or two other online slot machines based on this classic children’s story. There have been several licensed games released over the years, most notably by IGT and later Williams (WMS), as well as plenty of unlicensed and “inspired by…” games, such as the recent hit Alice in Adventureland. Can Red Tiger compete with their new In the Rabbit Hole online slot? Let’s find out!
I’ve had no choice but to get to grips with the technically lacking paytable setup that Red Tiger insists on using for every one of their online slots. This means that you will need to multiply the values shown on the table according to the size of your current wager if you want to know how much you will win from a given combination. The help page provides a long-winded explanation for calculating a win, but the short version is you divide your bet by the number of paylines (ten) and then multiply by the figure shown on the paytable.
Let’s assume that we are betting €1 per spin; we divide this by the ten pay lines to give €0.10 and multiply by the value of five wilds (1000) to get a return of €100.00 or 100x our bet. That’s the same payout as the highest-paying regular symbol, the flowers, and double that of the pocket watch that is worth 50x your bet. The top hat will pay you 25x your wager for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind, whilst the teacup is worth 15x, and the book of spells will pay you 10x for a complete pay line.
You have the option to bet as low as €0.10 per round, up to a maximum of €20.00 per spin. In my experience, there are probably only a very small number of players who will be upset about losing the ability to place bets larger than this.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game is a run-of-the-mill affair, sporting a five reel, three row layout, along with the ten fixed paylines that are arranged in the same positions as those of Dead or Alive and other ten-line games by NetEnt. All ten paying symbols require at least three matching symbols on a pay line, starting from the left, to receive their minimum win.
Sadly, there are no base game features or modifiers, so let’s skip over to the bonus rounds, where there is much more to discuss!
In The Rabbit Hole Slot Bonus Features
You’ll need to hit three scatter symbols on reels one, three, and five to trigger the regular free spins bonus round. From there, you’ll need to get lucky to go further down the rabbit hole and win the more generous bonus rounds!
Free Spins
When your bonus round first begins, you will be awarded seven free spins. During my testing, I got at least one wild symbol from every one of these spins and often had two or three on the reels. On your final spin, the game will throw up a message letting you know that a re-trigger will take you to the WIN SPINS phase of the bonus.
Win Spins Feature
The game will award you another set of seven free spins if you hit the magic re-trigger on your 7th free spin. This time around, all seven of your spins are guaranteed to be a win. Of course, it may not be a large win, but it’s always better to win something than nothing!
On your final spin, the game will again alert you that you now have a chance to progress to the third and final stage of the feature – the WILD SPINS.
Wild Spins Feature
You’ll need to be extremely lucky to make it this far – I never managed it during my time testing this game, but I can at least tell you what happens next, according to the game’s help file!
After your second re-trigger, another seven free spins will be added to your remaining counter. During this mode, all seven spins are guaranteed winners and all wilds that land on the screen will become sticky after they land for the remainder of the bonus round.
In The Rabbit Hole Slot Review Final Thoughts
I enjoyed testing this new game from Red Tiger, but the fact that the two best features can only be accessed by hitting a re-trigger on a specific spin of the bonus round is a bit of a problem. Don’t worry; your odds of hitting that re-trigger are not the same as the chances of hitting a re-trigger normally – I’m guessing it’s a 50/50 or similar decision that the game makes at the beginning of each feature.
I tried my best to get to the final stage of the bonus whilst I was testing the game. I did reach the second phase on a handful of occasions but was never lucky enough to make it to the Wild Spins phase. Hopefully, you will have more luck if you go ahead and try this game, which I recommend you do!
