Game Overview
No, it can’t be… not another fishing game, surely! Alas, this is indeed a fishing-inspired game – it is in the title, after all – but if you’re expecting just another bad clone of Fishin’ Frenzy of Big Bass Bonanza, you’re in for a surprise! There are no paylines or pa ways to contend with here – instead, Jili has gone for a skill-based design where wins are paid for shooting the various fish who meander around the playfield. The intro screen for Jackpot Fishing gives two different jackpot numbers – on the left, you’ll see the so-called “Jili Jackpot”, which can pay up to €9,999.99, whilst on the right, the “Treasure Bow” prize is shown alongside a maximum return of 888x the current bet.
But how exactly do you get an online slot without any paylines or payways? If that fact seems confusing, you’ll be completely bewildered after you load up the Jackpot Fishing slot game for the first time! The entire screen represents an underwater scene where a host of different sea creatures are going about their usual business… you know, the typical kinds of things that fish get up to, such as waiting to be shot by laser cannons. Nothing strange there! There are eight standard fish, with larger ones paying slightly more than their baby cousins. There’s also a whole host of special fish to discover – some of these will activate a modifier, whilst others act as bosses and have much bigger payouts than the standard fish.
Despite its name, this machine is not part of the same genre as other games with “fishing” in their name. We all find ourselves itching to play something different from time to time – therefore, I’d suggest keeping the name Jackpot Fishing in the back of your mind! We have a free demo slot of the game available to play below.
Jackpot Fishing Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Some players might find Jackpot Fishing more than a little familiar – that’s because there is another game just like which was only released a short time ago. That game was titled Hook’em Up! Fishing Wars, and we thought it was great fun when we reviewed it upon release. I’m not sure which developer released their game first, so I won’t accuse Jili of copying Mascot with this machine; nevertheless, there seems to be little doubt that one of these games was “heavily inspired” by the other. I will say that Jili’s slot has the better presentation out of the pair, as well as seemingly including a wider variety of features.; on the other hand, there is so much going on when playing this game that it suffered from a horrendous amount of slowdown on some of my devices.
Eight regular fish are swimming around the screen during the base game of Jackpot Fishing, with prizes ranging between 2x and 12x the current stake. I won’t try and name all of them as I would be certain of getting a whole bunch of them wrong, but as a general rule, you can always assume that more giant creatures will pay more than smaller ones. Five larger fish have better payouts of between 15x and 35x each, but these require many more shots to kill, so going for them can be risky. Even more valuable are the three golden fish – the Golden Angelfish, Clown Fish, and Manta Ray – these will pay you 50x, 55x, and 60x the total bet, respectively. And it doesn’t stop there! The ‘special fish’ can potentially get you as much as 250x the total bet, whilst the ‘effects fish’ max out at 110x but also come with modifiers attached. Finally, we have the bosses – these creatures can be identified by the word ‘immortal’ in their names on the paytable, and the most valuable of these fish can pay a massive 888x your total bet!
When playing Jackpot Fishing, you pay for every shot of your laser weapon rather than paying to spin the reels. The minimum/maximum permitted prices per shot have been set at €0.10 and €50.00, respectively, but remember that you may need to use many shots to defeat some of the fish you will encounter during play.
Jackpot Fishing Slot Base Game
Playing Jackpot Fishing is a different kettle of fish compared to a traditional video slot! Three laser cannons are positioned at the bottom of the screen – when I tested the game, I found myself in control of the right-most cannon. I’m unsure if other players may control the other two cannons when playing for real money, as the rules do not explain this.
Effects Fish
There are three special effects fish that you are going to need to familiarise yourself with quickly if you are going to stand a chance of hitting the big money when playing the Jackpot Fishing slot game:
- Thunder Shark: After it is killed, a chain lightning modifier will activate and stun all of the nearby fish. Any affected creatures will explode!
- Torpedo Crab: When killed, the crab will fire three torpedoes in different areas and directions for a chance to defeat the creatures located within the blast radius.
- Sea Anemone: The final modifier is created when these strange-looking fish are killed, generating a whirlpool which has a chance to pull in fish from its surrounding area.
Special Fish
Three special fish are included separately from the modifier-causing effects fish. I’m unsure exactly what their names are, but they all sport a relatively alien appearance and can be easily spotted because they are much larger than the standard fish. The payouts for these creatures are not fixed – the blue, purple, and orange varieties have potential ranges of 20-30x, 30-40x, and 40-50x the total bet, respectively. Additionally, when special fish appear on the scene, there is a chance of being awarded 5x the ‘super win’; the only problem is, I couldn’t find any mention of what the super win is meant to be!
Immortal Ocean Kings
Yet more special fish, with yet more varied payouts! These are a little more exciting though, as the most valuable Ocean King can award you an instant payout of 888x the total bet. These fish are even more valuable than those described above, and defeating higher-valued fish increases your odds of triggering a jackpot.
Treasure Bowl
The treasure bowl is a huge turtle-like symbol that frequently wanders slowly from one side of the screen to the other. You need to jump on this symbol straight away as soon as it appears – you can extract multiple 3x payouts just by shooting as fast as you can, whilst those with the fastest fingers might even score themselves a critical hit jackpot.
Jackpot Fishing Slot Bonus Features
With no reels, it’s probably not surprising to learn that Jackpot Fishing does not include a traditional bonus round either! Instead, the game consists of a progressive jackpot feature and an electric cannon that will activate intermittently.
Free Electric Cannon
Every time you pay for a shot of your regular laser weapon, you’ll also be charging up the electric cannon displayed in the bottom-left corner. When the cannon is fully charged, you can click it once to cause a large-range attack. The size of this blast is determined by how much you are betting, so playing at larger stakes has several benefits when spinning Jackpot Fishing.
Jili Jackpots
To be eligible to win the Jili Jackpos, you must be playing for at least 5 coins per round. This is important, as even if you bet less than this, you’ll still be charged a portion of every bet as a contribution towards the jackpot prizes. The two smaller jackpots have lower minimum requirements of 0.8 and 0.2 per shot.
To win a jackpot, you’ll need to defeat one of the special fish – the jackpot dragon has the highest priority, followed by the three jackpot fish, the treasure bowl, and the immortal ocean kings. The higher you bet, the greater your odds of randomly triggering a progressive jackpot.
Pros
- Unique gameplay makes this more of a speciality game than a video slot.
- Progressive jackpots can potentially result in a win of a few hundred thousand times your bet!
- Tonnes of different fish with different effects and results to explore and experience
Cons
- The game lags horribly on slower devices due to the sheer amount of sprites moving around on-screen at any one time.
- You must place big bets in order to receive the highest amount of RTP.
Final Thoughts
We had a blast when we first caught sight of Hook’em Up! Fishing here at Demoslot, but as fun as the game was, there’s no denying that the gameplay does become tiring and repetitive much more quickly than a typical slot machine. Jackpot Fishing suffers from the same problems, but it’s also got a little bit more to it. Overall, I’d probably prefer Jackpot Fishing instead of the Mascot game.
