Jeff & Scully (Elk Studios) Slot Demo & Review

Whilst I might not buy into every conspiracy theory I hear, I do always enjoy listening to them and watching documentaries that try to cast doubt over what our governments and media would have us believe. Often, the downfall of such theories is not helped by the oddballs that believe in them, and it just so happens that conspiracies and oddballs are the order of the day in ELK Studios Jeff and Scully slot game. This unique title is played over 7-reels, operates on a new Area Wins mechanic, has an RTP of 94%, and a maximum win of 10,000x bet.

Let’s start with our overview of the features with the Area Wins. This awards a payout when four matching symbols form a rectangular area in the playfield. This then fills with symbols, and the corresponding values from the paytable are awarded. Both of the characters in the game also offer unique modifiers when they help create a win, with more on that later in our review. Finally, we have the bonus feature triggered when 3 diamonds are collected. During this round, instant pay coins and multiplier symbols remain sticking throughout.

It’s time to get your tin foil hat out of the cupboard and debate endlessly who shot JFK, did they really put a man on the moon, and are we actually living in a simulation. The guys seem to think they are, as the game loads up if you listen in. Give it a try in our free Jeff and Scully slot demo, available to play below.

We all have a favourite conspiracy theory, don’t we? But I do often believe much of it is overthought. As the 14th–century friar William of Ockham explained, “If you have two competing ideas to explain the same phenomenon, you should prefer the simpler one.” Alas, Occam’s razor was born. But whilst the simplest theory and answer is likely to be correct, it’s clearly not as fun as continually speculating on what may have happened in history or who was responsible for assassinations, etc. Perhaps provider Push Gaming was on to something and trying to uncover the truth in their Shadow Order slot, or maybe that’s just one big slot conspiracy, too! Who knows, but it makes for interesting viewing, and with ELK Studios Jeff & Scully, it has the potential for some great slotting, too.

On we go to the pays section, and the highest paying symbol is the Astronaut, worth 25x bet for a win of 49 symbols. Next, we have the JFK symbol worth 15x the bet, with the Alien, Pyramid, Jeff & Scully all following and sharing equal payouts of 10x the bet. Finally, we have the Cow and Chemtrails, both awarding 5x the bet if wins of 49 symbols occur. The slot game does include a Wild Symbol in the form of a Speech Bubble, which will substitute for all other regular symbols.

ELK’s staking options rarely differ from game to game, and again, in their Jeff and Scully slot, the minimum price to play is €0.20, with the max stake reaching €100. There are only 12 options in total for you to choose from, but these are well spaced out and make the slot accessible for all players, regardless of their budget.

Jeff & Scully Slot Base Game

Jeff & Scully Base Game
Jeff & Scully base game

ELK’s Jeff & Scully slot game is played over a supersized grid of 7×7, which houses up to 49 symbols per spin, although you’ll never see that amount land in one spin. Instead, wins are created through “Area Wins“, which activate when four matching symbols land, forming corners, and the game can create a winning rectangle or square. That shape will then fill up with the symbols that made it, and the corresponding pay will be credited to your balance. All winning symbols are removed from the reels, causing a redrop (reel cascade), but multipliers, instant pay coins, bonus, and wild symbols will remain sticky.

Feature Symbols

An Instant Coin Symbol in a winning area awards an instant extra payout. A Multiplier in a winning area multiplies the area win; if several multipliers are present, they will be added together. If you hit a Scully Area Win, you’ll trigger the Scully Feature, which swaps symbols to provide additional area wins. Landing a Jeff Area Win triggers the Jeff Feature, which will payout for all other symbols in the area. Blocker symbols are also present in the slot game and serve no purpose other than hindering you from creating a win.

Jeff & Scully Slot Bonus Features

Jeff & Scully Free Spins Feature
Jeff & Scully free spins feature

Two features can be triggered in the Jeff & Scully slot game. The Standard Bonus Game is triggered when 3 Diamond Scatters are collected in one series of spins, and the Super Bonus Game is activated when 4 Diamond Scatters are collected.

Bonus Game

The standard bonus round begins with 10 free drops, and during this round, multipliers and instant pay coins remain sticky throughout the entire feature. If three diamond scatters are collected, the feature will be re-triggered.

Super Bonus Game

Plays the same as the standard bonus round, but multiplier and instant pay coins increase up for every new free drop.

X-iter

If you can play slots with a bonus buy in your jurisdiction, then you utilise the X-iter menu in Jeff & Scully and choose from the following:

  • Max Grid: Play with a full grid of symbols, excluding any blocker symbols. Costs 10x bet per spin.
  • Jeff or Scully: Guarnatted to trigger the Jeff or Sully Features. Costs 25x per spin.
  • Bonus: Trigger the standard bonus round at the cost of 100x.
  • Super Bonus: Trigger the super bonus at the cost of 500x.

Pros

  • An interesting new pay mechanic.
  • Top win of 10,000x bet.
  • Loads of in-game features to explore.

Cons

  • A low RTP of 94% may be off-putting for some players.
  • Far too many dead spins in the feature.

Jeff & Scully Slot Review Final Thoughts

ELK Studios is a tier-one game developer for a reason, and that is because their slots look fantastic, and they are never afraid to throw a new modifier or mechanic into the mix, as we are witnessing once again in Jeff and Scully. However, as is often the case with slots where multipliers continue to increase in the bonus round, the game throws in loads of dead spins, making it feel totally predictable. The general outcome was one decent spin or a combo of two worth about half of the stake back, and the rest were dead spins. Obviously, you can't hit massive wins on every bonus, but buy 10 Super Bonuses in our demo, and you'll see exactly what I mean.
