Game Overview
I would imagine that when the majority of those reading this review hear the phrase ‘Judgement Day’, their minds will instantly recall the 1990s worldwide smash-hit movie Terminator 2: Judgement Day. That’s for a great reason, of course – T2:JD isn’t just the best film in the entire Terminator franchise; it’s one of the most critically acclaimed pieces of Hollywood’s out ever to grace the silver screen. This makes me a little sad that Red Tiger’s Judgement Day Megaways slot has absolutely nothing to do with Artificial Intelligence, Arnold Schwarzenegger or even The Terminator, full stop! Still, this Megaways offering does feature the familiar 117,649 pay way count, a 96% RTP, and a maximum jackpot prize of up to 21,000x the total stake.
I’ll admit to not knowing as much as I probably should about the legend of the four horsemen, but in this version of the tale, they seem to have been given names: Conquest, War, Famine, or Death. My good friend across the room is laughing at me right now and telling me that the four horsemen are supposed to represent concepts rather than actual horseback-riding demons, but that’s nowhere near as cool, so I don’t believe it (lol). I mean, if that were true, what would seals have to do with it? They’re not exactly scary creatures, are they? (unless they are US Navy Seals, I Guess) Ohhhhh… not that kind of seal. I’m making a right swine’s ear of this, aren’t I? Seals, when broken, will unleash the calamity of a random horseman, who then acts as four win-boosting modifiers. There’s free spins feature available, but judging by my luck at hitting it, you’ll also need to be a huge fan of Victor Vasnetsov’s paintings to stand a chance of reaching it! Interestingly, I noticed that the free spins section mentions a top prize of 100,000x the total bet – that’s a fair bit larger than the 21,000x mentioned at the bottom of the help page, so make of that what you will.
So did you, like me, think that the four horsemen were part of the Bible? Or were you aware that it’s simply a 19th-century painting like my buddy here? It would be funny if we were both right, I suspect, but I doubt that our free demo slot of Judgement Day Megaways will satisfy that debate anytime soon! You never know though, so why not fire it up below and see if the answer comes to you whilst reading golden tablets out of a hat?
Judgement Day Megaways Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Don’t be under any false impressions here – Judgement Day Megaways may not be based around any kind of contemporary culture, but, as I’ve now mentioned earlier (ah… the folly of re-arranging your paragraphs), it does draw from something much older… the four horsemen of the apocalypse! Whether the shape-shifting T-1000 or a group of almost-certainly made-up horsemen with magical powers is the most scary slot machine theme of the pair, I will leave it up to you to decide; we recently got a new Terminator-inspired slot from Inspired Gaming simply titled The Terminator; but it was rather average and was missing a few parts in comparison to Micro gaming’s much older T2 machine. As for the Apocalypse, the closest alternative I can think of is Hacksaw Gaming’s Rotten, but that’s more of a zombie slot than anything.
Okay, let’s just say that we’re brave enough to take on the four horsemen… how many shillings will we receive for our troubles? The high-paying group of symbols features five crests – presumably the crests of the five houses from whence the legendary equine-mounted homo-sapiens came. Sure, the guys with the golden crest were probably the richest – able to pay 5x the total bet for a full payway of six of a kind – but the red guys had a far nicer-looking mark despite it only awarding 2x the total bet for all six symbols. The purple crest looks to have been inspired by some kind of insect or butterfly and is worth 1.5x for a complete payway, whilst the eagle/axe-head crossover used by the blue guys looks like something the Americans would use today (albeit probably covered in cheesy stars and stripes. Sigh. This brings us to our final contender – the black crest; it may only pay you 1x your bet for a six single combination, but I definitely think it’s the coolest of the bunch! There’s not too much worth saying about the low pays – once again, there are five of these; four use playing card suits and pay from 0.4x for the clubs to 0.7x for the spades, respectively, whilst the unique star symbol adds a tad more at 0.8x for every six-symbol combination.
I hope you’re not a super high-roller if you’re keen to play Judgement Day Megaways, as I have a sneaking suspicion that you’ll be left a tad disappointed by the game’s upper limit of €4.00 per spin applied to its betting range. On the other hand, low rollers are unlikely to suffer any such issues thanks to a minimum wager of just €0.10 per round.
Base Game & Modifiers
Their wrath has come! Boasts the title screen of Judgement Day Megaways, which absolutely had me and Jonny L singing in tandem, “Oh, let me see ya shake in ya boots we’re back in the old school, conquests war woop!”. I’m totally serious, you guys. Less seriously, The Judgement Days Megaways features a 6×7 reel layout to achieve its 117,649 maximum payways – no additional horizontal reel is needed this time! You’ll also need at least three matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the left to score yourself a win; regular line hits range between 0.1x and 5x the total bet. It’s a good job that we have some help at hand then, isn’t it.
Seals
You don’t want to be around when the four horsemen of the apocalypse break through the seal between our world and the underworld! Oh, scrap that, maybe you do, as over the eons, they seem to have changed their ways and now come armed with.
- Conquest Wild (Purple) – Rains down random wilds on the middle four reels
- War Wild (Red) – Splits random symbols in half to make them doubles, increasing the number of pay ways (but not above 117,649).
- Famine Wild (Green) – I initially read this as the FLAMING wild, but I guess its time for an eye test as instead, two random reels will be framed, and the number of symbols contained in each will be applied as multipliers to the symbols contained within the other.
- Death Wild (Blue) – A bit of a strange one this, as what the screenshot shows does not tally with the description shown – I tried as best I could to get death to come for me, but I guess he just wasn’t in the mood. Therefore, all I can tell you is that death gets his kicks these days by dragging down two of the middle four reels to reveal wilds with multipliers that increase by 1x for each position he pulls them down towards the underworld. Perhaps multipliers work in reverse in hell? I’ll update this review and let you know right after I’ve been down there and had a look.
Judgement Day Megaways Slot Bonus Features
The paytable and rules do not clarify if scatter symbols appear on every reel or only specific ones – only that hitting three simultaneously will award you eight free spins.
Free Spins
At the start of every bonus round, a JUDGEMENT will occur where a random horseman is selected to be the active modifier for every spin for the duration of the feature. Other horsemen can still be activated at any time as long as all four of them have not been activated by a JUDGEMENT. How could you manage that? Ah, elementary, my dear black-death-infected Watson, you just need to hit three more scatters during a bonus round spin! When that occurs, another JUDGEMENT will occur, a new horseman will be added to your feature, and the two will play out in order during every round. This process can repeat a further two times, adding three additional spins as you go, making for a maximum total of 17 free spins.
Pros
- Cool theme… but where’s Arnie? He should have been made the fifth horseman!
- The respectable jackpot of 21,000x the total bet… or an outstanding one of 100,000x, depending on which figure is correct.
- Hitting several horsemen at once can lead to major wins during the base game and free spin modes.
Cons
- Whilst the first horseman selected by hitting a seal is random, any combination of two or more always play out in a fixed order – this can be very frustrating!
Final Thoughts
Judgement Day is a blast of a slot that incorporates plenty of features and modifiers, which should keep those hardcore Megaways fans happy for a good few spins, at least.
