Here’s an interesting slot, but possibly not for the reasons you may think – Microgaming’s new Jungle Fiesta game harks back to a simpler time and shares incredible similarities with games such as Thunderstruck 2 and Immortal Romance – the origins of 243-way slots if you will. Like those games, there is a stacked wild modifier that can activate randomly at the beginning of any spin, a maximum win of roughly 12,000x your stake, but the RTP of 92.08% seems strangely low – even to the point of making me wonder if this could be a mistake in the early documentation written for the game.
Feature-wise aside from the solo stacked wild modifier, there are four free spins features which can be tried at will each time you hit three or more scatter symbols. You don’t need to unlock each feature as you did back when Thunderstruck 2 was released. Still, the fact there are four features to choose from once again reminds me of that special era of online slots, and I suspect many other players will feel the same after trying Jungle Fiesta.

Jungle Fiesta Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
There isn’t anything inspired about Jungle Fiesta – creating a slot about a random group of animals is a tried and tested formula that has been tried more times than I can count. It may not be original, but it does look good, putting a fresh coat of paint on a formula that has existed for over a decade. One game that I couldn’t help thinking of as I started to play this was BGaming’s Aztec Magic Megaways, which looks quite similar but plays very differently.
As for the paytable, the wild symbol will pay you 50x for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind, whilst five of the scatter symbols will pay you 200x your bet – a rare treat today when many games have done away with payouts for the scatters altogether. The prettiest full-colour parrot is worth 16.6x your bet for all five of his symbols, followed by the pelican at 15x for all five, another bluebird playing the guitar will pay you 13.3x, and finally, the cute green bird will pay you 11.6x for five-of-a-kind. There are a couple of medium symbols with payouts of 10x and 8.3x, after which you have the royals making up the lower-paying symbols. Again, there isn’t anything inspired going on here, but Jungle Fiesta does invoke a certain feeling of nostalgia for me as somebody who first got into playing online casino games right around the time that Immortal Romance was first released.
There is a minor difference when it comes to bet sizing – whilst the older games required a minimum wager of €0.30 per round and allowed you to bet up to €90.00 per spin, this game has a minimum and maximum bets of €0.20 and €20.00 respectively, which is probably just a response to shifting regulatory regimes in the countries where Microgaming operates.
Base Game & Modifiers
Once again, there are few surprises regarding the base game – it’s a five-reel setup with three rows per reel, and wins are awarded for hitting three or more matching symbols starting from the left. If it weren’t for the single base game modifier, there really would be little to say about the basic gameplay of Jungle Fiesta – it is as standard as it gets in 2022.
Wild Sunset Modifier
Immediately after hitting spin, a sunset may be triggered above the jungle – this will take place instead of a regular spin, turning between one and five of the reels into full stacks of wilds. These wilds behave as three separate symbols, meaning that if you get four stacks, you are guaranteed to win on all 243 pay ways simultaneously. A five-reel wild sunset will pay the game’s jackpot of more than 12,000x your bet.
Jungle Fiesta Slot Bonus Features
Hitting three or more scatter symbols during the base game will transfer you to the free spin selection screen, where you can choose your favourite type of bonus round. All these options will be instantly familiar to long-time fans of Microgaming’s slots, but we’ll run through them quickly anyway:
5x Multiplier Free Spins
This option gives you the lowest number of free spins at just ten, but each spin will benefit from a 5x multiplier applied to any winnings. Furthermore, this is the only option that can be retriggered in full, and you can also win 1,000x your bet if you hit a five-scatter re-trigger whilst playing this feature.
With Music Free Spins
During this mode, music randomly turns symbols into 2x or 3x multipliers. This is functionally the same as the Wild Ravens feature in Microgaming’s older slots, meaning that your spins can potentially benefit from a 6x multiplier if both multipliers are applied to successive reels on the same spin.
Rolling Reels Free Spins
Picking this option will award you 20 free spins with rolling reels, meaning winning combinations are immediately removed from the reels. Consecutive winning combinations resulting from this feature will have an ascending multiplier of up to 5x applied to them, but the biggest advantage of this mode is that you can end up with substantially more than the starting 20 free spins if you keep winning several times from each of your free spins.
Wild Shot Free Spins
Finally, picking this mode will give you the highest number of free spins at 25, but you must land the wild shot symbol on reel three for anything special to happen. If you remember the Loki Wild Magic feature from Thunderstruck 2, this feature works exactly the same way as that one did. This is probably my favourite pick of the bunch, if only because it was my favourite bonus in Thunderstruck 2!
Jungle Fiesta Slot Review Final Thoughts
In reality, this is nothing more than a re-skinning of Immortal Romance, but for some reason, I can’t help but like it – it looks good, has a tonne of potential for big wins, and you don’t need to win the feature 20 times to gain the choice of all of the features like you did in the older slots. If you now play at different casinos from those you did a decade ago – which surely must include most of us – then Jungle Fiesta provides a quick means of playing your favourite bonus rounds from the Microgaming slots of old.
