Jurassic Park Demo Slot (Microgaming) Slot Demo & Review

The 1990 novel “Jurassic Park” quickly became a bestseller, scoring favourable reviews from both critics and the public. The book was a huge success, but the majority of you will know of Jurassic Park from its later film adaptation. Steven Spielberg must have secured the rights extremely quickly after the novel’s release, as his phenomenally successful movie hit cinemas just three years later and received critical acclaim for its groundbreaking CGI and special effects techniques. Microgaming’s Jurassic Park video slot came much later, being released on the 8 of June 2014 featuring an RTP of 96.67% and a maximum win of 6,333x.

Microgaming had created multiple waves of 243-way slot machines by 2014, but in truth, they never did much to stir up their winning formula – as the saying goes “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, and this certainly applies to almost all of Microgaming’s entries to the 243-way slot category. Their first attempt, December 2010’s Thunderstruck 2, is just as fun and playable today as it was more than a decade ago.

As an older game, Microgaming doesn’t dedicate a lot of space to Jurassic Park on their website anymore. We’ll try and cover all you need to know here but if we miss anything you can try out our demo slot of Jurassic Park right here on this page:

Jurassic Park Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Paytable For Jurassic Park Slot

Almost every theme you could think of is overused in the online casino industry these days, and dinosaur-themed games are no different. T-Rex from Realtime Gaming was one of the first and is an excellent and fun little slot that is certainly showing its age but is still capable of a chunky payout. Realtime Gaming prefers to go by RTG these days and is trying to break into the lucrative European market. To that end, a sequel named T-Rex 2 was released to coincide with the switchover from Flash to HTML5 and retains much of the original charm and payout potential. A 2018 Taiwanese game named “The King of the Dinosaurs” has been localized in English just this month (January 2022), but it remains to be seen how good the game will be. Microgaming’s effort takes place on a well-drawn jungle backdrop and all of the symbols are taken directly from the 1993 film. The sound is unobtrusive, only becoming excitable during the bonus rounds – just as it should be, in our opinion.

Let’s talk about the paytable; clearly, we aren’t expecting any huge numbers here, as the 243 pay ways – essentially no different to paylines – mean it would be impossible to create a math model that would work if five-of-a-kind combinations were paying up to a thousand times your stake as in other Microgaming slots such as Break Da Bank Again. Don’t let this put you off, however – the scatter symbol pays 100x your stake should you hit all five, with a respectable 20x for the much more common combination of four. The wild symbol also pays 20x your stake, with the difference being that these symbols are stacked on the reels. A full screen of wild symbols would result in a payoff of 20×243 = 4,860x your stake, so where does the top win of 6,333x come from? We’ll get to that real soon! Past the special symbol there isn’t much else to report as the picture symbols pay just 13.33x, 11.66x, 10x, 8.33x, 5x, and 4x your stake.

The betting range is quite limited on this one, at least at the casinos I tried – the minimum is set at €0.30 whilst the maximum is locked at €15.00 per spin. That’s a spread of just 50x, which is low for a Microgaming slot. Perhaps this is something to do with the above-average RTP of 96.67%?

Base Game & Modifiers

Play With 5 Reels, 243 Paylines, And Win Up To 6,333x Your Bet On Microgaming's Jurassic Park Online Slot

Despite the top paying symbols on the paytable having relatively small wins attached to them, don’t be discouraged from trying the Jurassic Park video slot. Microgaming still manages to make all of their 243-way games interesting to play, as even in the base game there’s always some way to hit a worthwhile win.

Stacked Wild Feature

In the Jurassic Park slot game, Microgaming’s tool of choice is stacked wilds, which are present on every reel during the base game. This means that every spin could potentially result in a huge payoff, without even being in one of the many free spin features. It’s always nice to play a slot where you don’t spend your entire evening praying for the scatter symbols to drop!

T-rex Alert Feature

Another base game feature is the “T-Rex Alert”, which can occur randomly immediately after hitting the spin button. Up to 35 additional wilds will be added to the reels, increasing your chances of scoring a major stacked wild win, and better still, the feature stays active for the following five spins too! This feature always results in much more in the way of big base game hits and is one of our favourite features of the Jurassic Park online slot.

Jurassic Park Slot Free Spin Feature

Land 3 Or More Scatter Symbols To Trigger The Free Spins Bonus On Jurassic Park Slot

Earlier 243-way games from Microgaming used to have four free spin modes which you had to unlock through repeated play. The company has refined this a little with Jurassic Park by increasing the number of bonus options to five, but removing the option to select your favourite at the beginning of the bonus. That is, until you have entered the bonus 25 times (at the same online casino), after which point you are free to choose your favourite each time the scatters fall.

Velociraptor Feature

During the Velociraptor spins, wilds can divide into two which is especially advantageous on the first and second reels as it will turn useless two symbol combinations into winning three symbol ones. The split wild also makes it possible to hit a six-of-a-kind win too, which are worth double a five-of-a-kind win. The Velociraptor symbol is also stacked in this feature.

Brachiosaurus Feature

Each free spin during the Brachiosaurus feature will have its payout multiplied by between 2x and 6x. The multiplier can even stay active for subsequent spins on occasion, up to a maximum of four. This is great when you hit the top 6x multiplier; not so great if you end up with four 2x spins in a row. Once again, the Brachiosaurus symbol is stacked on all reels during this feature.

Triceratops Feature

The Triceratops feature extends the stacked wilds present on all reels by one extra symbol for each of your twelve free spins. If you hit a blank spin, any full stacks of wilds that are in view will remain in place, whilst partial stacks will receive a nudge from a Triceratops, ensuring that the reel will be filled with wilds before a re-spin is awarded. As with all of the other features, the Triceratops gains a stacked formation on the reels during its feature, too.

Dilophosaurus Feature

This is a semi-locked wild feature, but it kind of works in the opposite way to which you might expect. Dilophosaurus appears at random, turning random reel positions into wilds. These then lock in place, and provided they form part of a winning combination on the next spin, they will remain in place for the next spin too. If you can get on a roll with this one it can be a huge payer, but it can be very difficult to get started. What you want is to get two wilds on reels one and two, as these will stay in place for the duration of the bonus.

Tyrannosaurus Feature

The high paying T-Rex symbol becomes stacked on all reels, and the king of the dinosaurs can also appear on any free spin to transform anywhere from one to five reels completely wild, too.

Jurassic Park Slot Review Final Thoughts

Had Jurassic Park been licensed to the online slot industry sooner, the game would surely have turned out far worse than this. As it stands, this is a classic of 243-way mechanic slots that every slots fans needs to try at least once.
