Key Bet RouletteKey Bet RouletteSlot Demo & Review

I know that many online slot enthusiasts, myself included, also like to dabble in some table game action from time to time. It’s nice to take a break from spinning reels to flipping cards, rolling dice, or, in this case, relying on a roulette wheel to deliver some juicy payouts. We’ve reviewed a few virtual roulette games over the years, but I have a feeling Key Bet Roulette from Light & Wonder could be the best of them all. A clue to the reason why is in the title, and that’s the Key Bet you can place, something you’re not able to do on a regular roulette table. However, that bet is why this roulette game has a 94.73% RTP compared to regular tables offering 97.30%.

So, what is this Key Bet all about, I hear you say? Well, it’s a side bet you can place that could reward you with up to 100x the bet if it comes in. That’s quite the payout when you consider the top win on European Roulette is usually the straight-up (single number) bet that pays 36/1. If you’re new to roulette, that means you get 36x your stake back and your original bet on top.

Want to learn more about how the Key Bet works on this virtual roulette game or see if there are any other standout aspects of this game? Then, I suggest you enjoy some free play action on the Key Bet Roulette demo below.

At first glance, the betting options on the felt at a roulette table can look quite complicated, but really, the game is simple to play once you know how. It’s a game of chance, so it’s just about placing the bets—whether single numbers, groups of numbers, or betting on the number being odd/even or red/black—and hoping your bet comes in. Obviously, certain bets have longer odds than others, while some can essentially be 50/50. I do suggest you read some guides if you’re yet to play roulette, with our ‘Tips to win at roulette’ guide being a good one to start with, coupled with our free Roulette Simulator that let’s you place unlimited free bets.

Key Bet Roulette is a European variant of the traditional table game, and usually, that’s a good thing as it offers a lower house edge of 2.7% compared to American Roulette, which has double the house edge due to an extra 00 green pocket. However, in this variation, the RTP is lower still because of the side bet, which can pay a 100x bet reward. All other bets pay 36/1 for straight-up bets, 18/1 for splits, 12/1 for streets, 9/1 for corner bets, and 3/1 for columns or dozens. You then have the safer even-money bets of red/black, odd/even, and high/low, which pay 1/1.

As for the stakes you’ll be able to place, these depend on the type of bet. On single numbers, you can wager as little as €0.20 and up to €25.00, while on even-money bets, you can place between €1.00 and €500.00. However, as you can place multiple bets on the same spin, there isn’t a maximum limit on the overall bets you can make. The Key Bet side bet, which I’ll discuss shortly, supports bets between €1.00 and €250.00.

What I like about the Key Bet Roulette betting interface is that you can use the standard betting overlay to place bets, the Bet on Wheel option, or the neighbour bets screens. Players like to use certain strategies; some want to cover specific sections of the physical roulette wheel with bets, which is why the latter two options are available.

You can also use certain buttons to make placing bets easier. You can choose from low, medium, and high stake levels, which adjust the size of the minimum bets you place when clicking a betting option. Furthermore, a Double Bet button makes it possible to double the current wager you have placed.

Now we get to the key selling point of the Key Bet Roulette game from Light & Wonder, the Key side bet. It is an independent bet, meaning it is not tied to any other bets placed for the upcoming spin.

The feature is essentially an additional Pocket on the roulette wheel that you can bet on the ball hopefully landing. However, rather than getting the regular 36/1 when winning a straight-up bet on any other pocket, you win at least 20x and potentially up to 100x your stake.

As the roulette wheel spins, sections containing 20x, 25x, 30x, 35x, 40x, 50x, and Pot light up, and the section lit once the wheel stops is the payout you’ll receive if the ball lands in the Key Bet pocket. If that’s the Pot section, that means 100x your stake.

Pros

  • Lots of handy betting buttons make it easy to place your bets.
  • Can play for as little as €0.20.
  • The Key side bet could land players 100x the bet payout.

Cons

  • The RTP is lower than regular roulette tables due to the Key Bet. If you’re not planning to use that side bet, play a regular roulette game to receive more favourable odds.

Key Bet Roulette Review Final Thoughts

If you’re after an interesting variant of roulette to play that has something different compared to the likes of our 20p Roulette demo, Key Bet Roulette is well worth a look. However, only play this title if you plan on placing that side bet. There’s no other reason to play if not, as you’re sacrificing house edge without taking the chance to win the bigger payouts.
