Knight Rider Demo Slot (Netent) Slot Demo & Review

For those of us who are now old enough to know better, as it were, NetEnt have come up with a real treat for us here. If you are part of the younger generations – nicknamed Millennials and Generation Z – you might not even recognize the Knight Rider brand. It was the highlight of the week for many of us back in the early 80s, during its original run on television between 1982 and 1986. There have been several attempts at rebooting the series though, and if you happened to catch any of them then your opinion of Knight Rider will probably be very poor. Have no fear – the 26 pay-line Knight Rider Slot with an RTP of 96.07% and a maximum win of 7,000x is based on the original show, not any of those ridiculous low-quality reboots!

If you have played the NetEnt slot “Drive: Multiplier Mayhem”, then you might recognize a few of the features and mods in Knight Rider. There are multiplier wilds that increase in value as they move towards the right, a turbo boost feature that adds several walking multiplier wilds to the reels, and a free spins bonus feature that adds a brand new laser wilds feature to the game as well.

Whether you are a Knight Rider fan from back in the day, or just a slots player looking for an interesting game to play, then this is one slot you should take a look at. Why not have a few spins right now using our free demo slot of Knight Rider right here in our article.

Knight Rider Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Paytable For Knight Rider Slot

The theme of NetEnt’s Knight Rider video slot is best described as motor-orientated, though it also fits into several other categories too; Sci-fi, 80s Nostalgia, and Bonus Buy are three that spring to mind immediately. The graphics do a good job of invoking plenty of nostalgia for the 80s TV show, but I was surprised not to hear the theme tune whilst the game was loading or before I began to spin. Frustratingly, the theme tune begins to play each time you press spin and then stops again when the reels do. Even when using the autoplay feature, it still doesn’t play continuously. I’m not sure why NetEnt did this, but it definitely detracted from my enjoyment of the game.

Considering that this is a pay-line based game, I was surprised at just how low the payouts were on the paytable. The top symbol is the original Michael Knight, played by David Hasselhoff, but returns only 4x your bet for a full line of five. This drops to 3x for the KITT symbol, 2x for a big rig truck, and continues to get worse from there. What gives NetEnt? Do the multiplier wilds really add enough to justify these low numbers? We’ll be investigating this soon, but I have to admit I really didn’t understand what was going on at this point.

The betting range begins at €0.20 per spin and tops out at €40.00 per spin. Other sites have this down as being a high variance slot, but my experience suggests otherwise – the top win of 7,000x is also quite low by 2022 standards. Still, if you have the money for a few max bet spins here and there, it’s nice to have the option of a fairly big bet, and €40.00 is far more sensible than the max bet options of some other titles.

Base Game & Modifiers

Play With 5 Reels, 26 Paylines, And Win Up To 7,000x Your Stake On Netent Gaming's Knight Rider Online Slot

If Knight Rider is designed as an update of Drive: Multiplier Mayhem, then NetEnt was definitely right to make this its own game rather than a simple sequel. The play area is bigger at 5×4, there are more features, and the walking wild symbols are far more profitable than the fixed wilds in Drive. Knight Rider also features almost double the paylines, and the free spins feature is very different as well. The only real similarity is the multiplier wilds. They do make up an important part of both games, however, so the comparison between the two isn’t entirely unfair.

Walking Wilds Feature

Wild symbols have a multiplier attached to them that relates to which reel they land on. For example, wilds landing on the second reel will have a 2x multiplier attached to them. On every subsequent spin, the wild will move one space to the right and its multiplier will increase accordingly. The only problem is, you have to pay for each of these respins – if you run out of money, you might end up having to deposit more to find out just how much more you have in reserve. Thankfully, the position of your wild symbols is remembered between sessions, although there is likely to be a time limit on this – I wouldn’t wait weeks before returning to your session if I were you!

Turbo Boost Feature

This is a simple one that can activate randomly at any time during the base game, adding three or four multiplier wilds to the reels. If these land in good positions, it can result in a decent payoff – just remember that you have to pay for all of the subsequent spins to receive the full potential of this feature too.

Knight Rider Slot Bonus Features

Land 3 Scatter Symbols In View During Base Game Play To Trigger The Free Spins Feature On Knight Rider Video Slot

Thankfully, the Knight Rider video slot also includes a free spins feature to spice things up. Nothing that we have discussed so far is really that exciting – sure, you can get a win featuring Michael Knight with a x2x3x4x5 multiplier once in a while if you are really lucky, but that’s only 120x the pay out of 4x your stake. It doesn’t even come close to the purpoted maximum of 7,000x – so what gives? Land three scatter symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4, and you might just find out!

Free Spins Feature

In Drive: Multiplier Mayhem, the free spins bonus was based around a Fast and the Furious style race between you and an increasingly difficult set of other drivers. In Knight Rider, things work similarly – you need to collect special Knight symbols to progress through the various free spin levels. You start with ten spins, and making it to the second level always seems fairly easy. Getting to level four is a whole different matter, however.

Each time you move up a level, three extra free spins are added to your remaining total. You will also be gifted an additional “laser wild”. The difference between these and the regular walking wilds is that they move to the right and the reels re-spin without reducing your remaining number of free spins. This is an important difference that several other review sites seem to have missed, but reveals where all that lovely RTP is locked away.

If you make it to level 4, three laser wilds will be added at the start of every spin – get these in the right place, and every spin is more like five spins. You might not win on every one of them, but with all those sticky walking multiplier wilds (what a mouthful!) on the reels, it’s harder NOT to walk away with a big win rather than hit one!

I made it to level four once during my testing of the game and my reward was only 600x my stake – a long way from 7,000x – but not a disappointing bonus by any metric. I can easily see how 7,000x would be possible with the right placement of symbols. I hope you get luckier than I did when you play!

Bonus Buy Feature

If you live in a jurisdiction where the wants and needs of gamblers are still considered above those of politicians, you might just be able to take advantage of the bonus buy feature. It costs 140x your current bet to jump straight into the feature, which seems a little bit high, though I tried it five times and came out ahead on three out of the five. Overall, this seems a pretty fair deal.

Knight Rider Slot Review Final Thoughts

I loved Knight Rider as a child, and seeing David Hasselhoff and Kitt back onscreen in 2022 gave me some serious nostalgic pangs. The game isn’t perfect by any means, and the low payouts of the top symbols are definitely disappointing during the base game if you don’t have any multiplier wilds in play. The fact you have to pay for every subsequent spin to see the wilds walk is frankly awkward and clunky too, and just doesn’t feel right to me as an experienced slots player. These issues aside, Knight Rider is a great slot. But those issues are pretty big in the grand scheme of things. Try our free demo slot before dropping any real money on this one.
