Unlike that USB stick, however, Kokeshi Pop Popwins definitely isn’t a scam! The game starts with 486 active pay ways, increasing to a maximum of 33,614 payways in certain situations, whilst the RTP stands at 96.1%, and the jackpot prize is a tasty 10,000x your current stake.
There is a whole bunch of features to discuss here, starting with the “Popwins” payout mechanic, which splits winning positions into two, generating additional pay ways as the height of each reel is boosted. Unlocking all possible reel positions adds a multiplier of 5x, 10x, or 20x into the mix, and this will double with each subsequent win after it is first activated. You can win up to 12 free spins depending on the number of triggering scatter symbols, or a gamble wheel can be used as another means of uPGrading a three-scatter trigger. During the free spins, the multipliers on offer get a little bit insane, so I’m sure that this game’s bonus bet and bonus buy options will be frequently used by players itching to access the most profitable parts of the machine.

Kokeshi Pop Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The theme of Kokeshi Pop Popwins is definitely Far Eastern, as I mentioned earlier, but unlike games such as Eastern Emeralds, this one has a certain anime flavour to it that I would expect to appeal to a significant group of players. Anime is still relatively unrepresented in popular culture here in the West, but it’s a growing niche that is especially popular with younger Millennials and the so-called “Generation Z”. We have seen a handful of similar games before – Empire Shields, for example, has a familiar but slightly more adult look to it, whilst Dio, Killing the Dragon might be the closest match that I can recall off the top of my head. I’m sure that slots players who also happen to be true anime fanatics could come up with a better list of similar slots, but these were the best suggestions I managed to come up with.
AvatarUX has undoubtedly tapped into a popular theme, but how does the paytable stack up? Let’s start with the single so-called “Super-High” paying symbol, which has a return of 5x your bet for each complete payway of five-of-a-kind. It doesn’t SOUND all that super-high. Of course, this game has both stacked symbols and an enormous maximum number of payways, meaning that you cannot read too much into the numbers listed on the paytable. The “high-paying” symbols include red, orange, and blue character symbols, all of which have a return of 2x the current stake for five-of-a-kind, whilst the more sparse-looking “medium” symbols all pay 1.5x your bet, and the royals are each worth 1x for complete pay ways of five symbols. Sadly, neither the wild nor bonus symbols have any special payouts, so those won’t be of any use to you in seeking a huge win.
The wager selection screen pops up immediately after clicking on your current bet, with 13 possible bet sizes on offer. The minimum permitted wager is €0.20 per spin, while the maximum is €40.00. The spread between these extremes looks relatively well-spaced, too, but it would have been nice if a few more bet sizes had been made available.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game in Kokeshi Pop plays out much like the other Popwins online slots, but if you are new to these games, you may be in for a few surprises whilst playing this slot. The initial playfield has five reels of three rows, just like pretty much every other online slot, but this configuration will grow after every winning combination you hit.
Popwins
Any symbol that forms part of a winning combination will be split into two positions before it is removed from the reels. In this way, the initial 486 payways – 243 in each direction – can rapidly increase until you hit the maximum of 33,614 when the grid reaches a size of six-high on all five reels. Note that during the bonus round, this increases to a maximum of seven-high, creating even more payways!
Base Multiplier
Once all possible reel positions have been unlocked during the base game, a multiplier of either 5x, 10x, or 20x will randomly be awarded to your current round. If you continue to win after this point, the game will double this multiplier every time a subsequent win is removed from the reel set. The multiplier is reset after each paid spin.
Kokeshi Pop Slot Bonus Features
Hitting three or more scatter symbols during the base game will trigger some free spins in the vastly more profitable bonus round of the game. Three scatters will award you the minimum of five free spins, whilst four or five scatter symbols will reward you with either eight or 12 free spins.
Free Spins Feature
During the free spins feature, the default playfield size is increased to 5×4, whilst the maximum possible playfield size also increases to 5×7. Before the feature begins, a gamble wheel will be shown, offering you the chance to risk your free spin feature for the opportunity of adding some additional spins to your starting total.
Winning the initial gamble will take you from five to eight spins, and risking your bonus for a second time offers the chance to boost this to the maximum of 12. Note that a loss at any time will result in your entire bonus round being forfeited.
The free spins feature is enhanced by a constant multiplier that begins at 1x and will double after every winning combination. Fully unlocking the entire reel set will add an additional multiplier of 5x, 10x, or 20x, just as in the base game, with the added benefit of two extra free spins being added to your remaining total each time that you achieve this.
Bonus Buy
Fancy skipping the base game and going directly to the lucrative free spin part of the game? You can do so for a cost of 60x the regular price per spin, or if you are especially hungry for risk, the game also offers a maximum five-scatter trigger bonus round for a price of 240x the normal cost of a spin.
The regular 60x bonus buy option seems like a genuine bargain, and even the higher cost option at 240x seems somewhat reasonable after testing around a dozen bonus rounds in each mode. As always, only bet what you can afford to lose, but I would certainly consider using these options if permitted within your jurisdiction.
Kokeshi Pop Slot Review Final Thoughts
I’ve enjoyed all of the previous Popwins games I have tried, so I wasn’t surprised to also find myself enjoying this one. Kokeshi Pop isn’t a game that appeals to me visually – I’m not a huge fan of anime – but the mechanics and the available winnings certainly do appeal, and I’m sure this will also ring true for many other slot fans. If the visuals really turn you off, you could always try one of the other Popwins games instead – personally, though, my results whilst playing this one convinced me that this is the game to add to my “must play” list!
