Lantern Luck Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Chinese lanterns have been used to decorate several slot games, including the recent release Guardians of Inari by Arcadem. The graphics do look much more high resolution in this game and are extremely bright and colourful, but I still didn’t find it very interesting to look at on the whole. The way that wins and wild labels appear on the screen is very pretty, however. The soundtrack is nice enough, to begin with, but is most people are sure to tire from hearing it eventually – probably sooner rather than later.
I’ll describe the best parts of the paytable using the primary colour of each of the Chinese lanterns that appear on the reel strips. Unfortunately, this will not be foolproof – people see many colours slightly different, and the colours that have been used by Habanero could be open to interpretation. The top-paying blue symbol returns 48x your stake for five-of-a-kind, whilst the white lantern immediately drops this down to just 16x. The very light purple halves again to 8x your stake for all five, and the remaining lamps aren’t even worth mentioning. Note that these figures can all receive one or more multipliers if any of the lamps are lit when they appear as part of a winning combination.
Bet sizes are selected using a combination of coin size and bet level. Bet level can range between 1 and 10 whereas the coin size can be set to values between €0.01 and €20.00. I double-checked these figures and they will differ depending on the currency you are actually playing in. The overall minimum and maximum bet sizes are €0.25 and €200.00 per spin.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game is all you have in Lantern Luck, unfortunately. There are no bonus rounds or features to speak of. Thankfully, Habanero did at least choose to include a couple of modifiers to keep things interesting. Basic gameplay takes place on a typical 5×3 playfield, with 25 paylines positioned in normal locations. The wild symbol only lands on the bottom row – a good thing when the wild re-spin is triggered, but strange and disappointing otherwise.
Wild Re-spin Feature
You’ll need to hit a wild on reels one, three, and five to trigger this feature. When this happens the wild symbols will be locked in place and you will be awarded a free re-spin. After you are paid for each re-spin, all wilds that are still visible on the screen will move up one position on the reels. If further wilds land, the feature can continue indefinitely. When no more wilds are visible, the feature ends.
Lantern Multiplier Feature
All of the wins listed on the paytable can be boosted by a maximum 5x multiplier. Every lantern which is lit (look out for the fireflies circling the lantern) adds 1x to the total multiplier for each winning line. As explained during the introduction, this can make it quite difficult to see how much you are winning until the game announces it to you!
Lantern Luck Slot Review Final Thoughts
Considering how fancy the graphics and overall appearance of Lantern Luck is, I was expecting much more from the gameplay. It’s definitely a pretty game, but is likely only going to appeal to fans of very low variance games. If that’s your bag, go ahead and give it a try – but it isn’t mine.
