After the astounding success of Book of Dead, it was always going to be a sure thing that Play’N’Go would deliver a sequel or two eventually. However, rather than creating a ‘Book of Dead 2’ machine, the developer has opted for a different title – ‘Legacy of Dead’ – possibly selected due to this game featuring a few similarities with their existing Legacy of Egypt online slot. The game features the same ten user-selectable paylines as its predecessor, whilst the RTP and max win have seen a boost to 96.58% and 25,000x the bet, respectively.
Legacy of Dead includes many of the same symbols as Book of Dead, although the explorer symbol has now been replaced by the King whose spirit has apparently escaped from the book discovered in the first game. Likewise, the book symbol has been replaced by a tomb and hitting three or more of these will award eight free spins with up to nine special expanding symbols. This works just like the single expanding symbol in the first game, except as there are now multiple of them, they will expand one after another, potentially awarding up to nine separate payouts from every free spin!

Legacy Of Dead Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
While many other slot developers prefer to make endless clones of their previous games, Play’N’Go seems to take a different approach much of the time by recycling previous themes and then inserting aspects of different franchises to create new slots. Legacy of Dead is undoubtedly a follow-up to Book of Dead; it also has many similarities with Cat Wilde and the Doom of the Dead and the Legacy of Egypt demo slot, which you can also play for free here on our site. I think this is better than just creating simple copies of existing games, but it still feels a little bit lazy when all of these games share identical assets. Nevertheless, Legacy of Dead is a great-looking machine, and the increased RTP and top win should be enough to tempt most players into trying it.
The King’s Tomb symbol acts as both the Wild and Scatter symbol in this game and has two different sets of payouts depending on its arrangement on the playfield. Five tombs anywhere on the reels will award 200x the total bet, whilst five tombs on an active payline increase this to 500x. The King has the same return of 500x for a complete payline of five of a kind, a fair step up from the next highest-paying Mask symbol at 160x for all five symbols. The Tutankhamun and Scarab symbols share the same payout of 60x the bet for a complete payline. Five royals make up the low-paying half of the paytable; the Ace and King award 12x the bet for all five symbols, whilst the Queen, Jack and Ten have a lower return of 8x.
Selecting your bet is performed using coin value, number of coins, and pay line selectors. These give a reasonable degree of flexibility and allow you to choose any multiple of the minimum €0.10 wager up to the maximum of €100.00 per round.

There are few surprises in the base game, which plays identically to the original Book of Dead. That means a five reel, three row layout, along with ten user-selectable paylines and combined wild/scatter symbols. The top-paying symbols will both award a win for just two matches on an active payline starting from the leftmost reel, whilst all other symbols require at least three matches to award a prize.

The introduction of multiple expanding symbols into the bonus round is a welcome change, but it’s a shame that Play’N’Go did not also take the opportunity to add a couple of modifiers to the base game. Considering that this game has a higher RTP and larger maximum win than Book of Dead, there seems little reason to play that game over this one. Unfortunately, I expect many players to be blissfully unaware that this sequel even exists for the foreseeable future – but that won’t include those reading this review!
