Lightning Blackjack combines traditional Blackjack rules with Evolution Gaming’s Lightning multipliers, offering the potential for enhanced payouts. This version retains the core gameplay of Blackjack while introducing a mandatory Lightning fee, which guarantees a multiplier (2x–25x) for a future winning hand.

Players familiar with Blackjack will find the mechanics unchanged, but the addition of multipliers provides an extra incentive to play. This guide explains how Lightning Blackjack works, from the basic gameplay to the special multiplier feature that sets it apart from standard Blackjack.

How To Play

Whether you’re an experienced blackjack player or new to the game, we’ll run through the rules of Lightning Blackjack so you fully understand all aspects of the game.

Basic Rules

Lightning Blackjack is played with eight decks of 52 cards, shuffled after four decks have been dealt. The objective remains the same: achieve a hand value closer to 21 than the dealer, without exceeding 21.

Card values are as follows:

  • Number cards (2-10): Face value
  • Face cards (J, Q, K): 10 points
  • Aces: 1 or 11, whichever benefits the hand

Each player is dealt two face-up cards, while the dealer receives one face-up and one face-down card. The value of the player’s starting hand is displayed, and they can then Hit, Stand, Double Down, or Split, depending on their hand.

A Blackjack occurs when a player’s first two cards total 21 (Ace + 10-value card).

Lightning Multipliers & Fees

The key difference between Lightning Blackjack and standard Blackjack is the Lightning Fee, an extra mandatory 100% fee of the player’s initial bet.

  • Winning a round grants a multiplier for the next round, which ranges from 2x to 25x, depending on the final hand score.
  • Multipliers apply to future bets only in the amount of the Lightning Fee paid. Any excess bet amount receives the standard Blackjack payout.
  • Multipliers remain valid for up to 180 days, even if the player leaves the game and returns later.

If a player Splits their hand, the multiplier is awarded to the highest winning hand. There is no additional Lightning Fee for Double Down or Split bets.

Betting Decisions & Game Actions

Players can choose from the following options when making their move:

  • Hit: Take another card to improve the hand.
  • Stand: Keep the current hand value.
  • Double Down: Double the bet and receive only one additional card.
  • Split: If the first two cards are of equal value, they can be split into two separate hands.

If no decision is made, the system will automatically Hit if the hand is 11 or less or Stand if it is 12 or more.

Dealer Rules & Game Outcome

Once all players have made their decisions, the dealer reveals their face-down card and must:

  • Hit on 16 or lower
  • Stand on 17 or higher

Players win if their hand value is higher than the dealer’s or if the dealer busts. If both have the same hand value, the round results in a push and the player’s main bet is returned.

If a player wins with a Lightning multiplier, their next round’s payout is multiplied accordingly. However, if the round ends in a push or Insurance win, the player keeps their main bet but loses the Lightning fee and multiplier.

Insurance Bet

If the dealer’s face-up card is an Ace, players can  place an Insurance bet, which costs half the initial bet and pays 2:1 if the dealer has Blackjack.

If the player and dealer have Blackjack, the game ends in a push. If the dealer does not have Blackjack, the Insurance bet is lost, and the round continues.
