Lightning Viking Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
As mentioned in the opening paragraph, this machine looks quite different for a Viking-themed online slot. Compare it to, say, Vikings Unleashed Megaways, or Volatile Vikings 2 Dream Drop, for example, and you could easily be forgiven for thinking the games belonged to entirely different categories! I prefer the look of the two games I’ve just mentioned over this one, but we all know that looks can be deceiving! So how does the paytable of Lightning Viking stack up against its competition?
Two hand-drawn character symbols sit firmly above the rest of the paytable, with the male offering a return of 20x and the female paying 10x for a complete payline of six of a kind. A third rather rough-and-ready looking character is next, awarding 8x the total bet for all six of his symbols, after which there are two medium pays – a horn and a ring – both of which share equal payouts of 5x the total bet for a complete payline. Finally, the low-paying royals have all been drawn in the style of runes and share identical returns of 3x the bet for all six symbols.
The minimum/maximum bet per spin has been set at €0.20 and €50.00, respectively, but I should point out that the paytable mentions that the top win may not be achievable at all stakes. That could be somewhat of an issue for some players, as surely you’d expect the rules to stake what those stakes would be. But alas not, which is very strange, I have to say.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game uses a large 6×4 playfield, and there are 50 fixed paylines, which does sound like a lot initially, but it really isn’t so huge considering that there are 4,096 possible paths from left to right on a grid of this size. Matching three or more symbols on adjacent reels of any payline starting from the leftmost reel will award a win. Wild symbols only appear on reels two through five during the base game.
Gamble Wheel
If you opt to activate the gamble feature, then wins can potentially be gambled for more cash or the free spins feature. All you need to do is land in the green section of the corresponding wheel, and your prize will be increased.

The base game may not have much to it in Lightning Viking, but don’t worry – Inspired has saved the best for last! Hitting three bonus scatter symbols simultaneously will award 10 free spins, whilst four, five, or six will bump this up to 12, 15, or 20 free spins.

The first thing to know about this bonus round is that it comes with additional wild symbols! Reel one features a Viking helmet, whilst reel six features Thor’s Hammer. Every time one of the regular wilds appears on reels two through five, the position it landed on will become highlighted for the remainder of the bonus round. Whenever the Viking Helmet and Hammer wilds appear simultaneously, all previously highlighted reel positions will transform back into wilds for the current spin.
If all 16 possible positions on reels two through five become highlighted during a single set of free spins, a final lightning spin is awarded. This lightning spin comes with guaranteed helmet and hammer symbols, ensuring that your final spin will be extremely valuable.

The base game of Lightning Viking would benefit from an additional feature or two, but the bonus round is an exciting one – especially if you can manage to start with a maximum of 20 free spins. There are better Viking-themed games out there, but this one is still worth a look.
