Limerick Lightning (Blueprint) Slot Demo & Review

Well, it finally happened – somebody dared to create a Lightning Link clone with Lightning in the title! We’ve seen tonnes of these games recently; they always include the same feature set, so if you are a fan of those land-based Lightning Link slots, you will feel right at home with this one! Blueprint Gaming’s title then, named Limerick Lightning. This is a ten fixed pay line machine with a supposed maximum win of 50,000x; you bet – good luck getting anywhere near that figure, though, as you will find out during our review – especially with the far lower than average RTP of 94.52%.

There are two main features in Limerick Lightning – first, the so-called “Lightning Spins”, which is a three-spin bonus that is triggered by hitting six money symbols during the base game. The second bonus round is a free spin bonus round that is triggered by hitting three scatter symbols, but you only receive five spins to start with, so cross your fingers for a couple of retriggers – you usually get at least one, in my experience – as these add an additional three spins to your remaining counter. You can win the Limerick Lightning bonus during the free spins too.

Paytable For The Limerick Lightning Slot
Limerick Lightning slot paytable

The town of Limerick in Western Ireland seems to be the setting of this slot – that’s cool and everything, but it would be much more extraordinary if Blueprint had instead used the type of poetry known as a Limerick as the basis for their slot – come in, it would be great if you could win yourself a cool Limerick for hitting a certain number of coins during the Limerick Lightning bonus round, wouldn’t it! I used to love Limericks when I was a child and had several books full of them. I’d go to school and tell the funniest ones to my friends. Ah, the nostalgia creeping over me will make me biased in a minute, so let’s move on to the paytable!

So how does the paytable fare? Well, the top symbol is a leprechaun hat, and that will pay you 40x your bet for a completed payline of five-of-a-kind. An overflowing medieval tavern mug is next, paying 30x your bet for all five of those, then there is a pipe at 20x, a horseshoe at 15x, and that’s your lot as far as the high-paying symbols go. With this being a ten-line game, the lower paying symbols are not terrible compared with, the earlier ones – they are represented by playing card suits, with the heart and spade being the top symbols at 7.5x each for full five-of-a-kind combinations, whilst the diamond and club symbols are worth 5x each.

There are many wager selection options in Limerick Lightning, but they all range between the minimum of €0.10 per spin and the maximum of €10.00. Interestingly, several slot developers are now limiting their maximum bets to lower amounts – an attempt to stop regulators from implementing a maximum bet, perhaps? I guess we might find out soon!

Base Game & Modifiers

A Maximum Of 50,000x Your Stake Can Be Won When Playing The Limerick Lighting Online Slot From Provider Blueprint Gaming
Limerick Lightning slot base game

Next, let’s talk about the base game. It’s a 5×3 playfield with the ten fixed paylines we have mentioned previously. Regular payline wins are scored by hitting combinations of between three and five symbols on a pay line, and they do occur quite regularly, in my experience.

Even more regular seems to be the Lightning Limerick bonus round, which seems to love to kick in and award you 12-14 of the symbols needed to fill the screen. It’s interesting to see how the RTP has been divided here – the payouts on the paytable are not as large as I would expect for a ten payline game, but Blueprint has obviously made things up with constant bonus rounds instead!

Limerick Lightning Slot Bonus Features

There Are Two Bonus Features That Can Be Triggered When Playing The Limerick Lightning Video Slot
Limerick Lightning slot free spins feature

So, as all of the big action In Limerick Lightning is held up in the features, I guess we ought to get on to talking about those, hadn’t we! First up is the Limerick Lightning round, triggered by hitting six money or coin symbols during either the base game or the free spins bonus round.

Speaking of the free spins bonus round, there are just three bonus symbols on the reels, located on reels one, three, and five, and hitting all three of them will take you to a similar reel set where you will play out five free spins.

Lightning Limerick Feature

A separate reel set is used in this mode, containing only coin/money symbols. You start the bonus with three lives and lose a life each time the reels spin, and you do not land a coin/money symbol. If you lose all your lives, the bonus round will end.

The coin/money symbols all contain prizes of between one and 20 times your bet, but special coins can also drop, which will pay out one of the four jackpots on the game. These pay as follows:

  • Mini Bonus – 30x Bet
  • Major Bonus – 100x Bet
  • Mega Bonus – 250x Bet
  • Grand Bonus – 500x Bet

Free Spins

This is almost a typical free spin feature except that you only get five free spins to start with – a little bit tight there, Blueprint? It’s not as if the free spin reels are any more generous than the base game ones!

Luckily, re-triggers are here to save the day and hitting three bonus symbols during this mode will add three spins to your counter. There is also one other catch during free spins – at least three adjacent reels will show the same symbol on each spin. Usually, this will result in a small three-of-a-kind royal win, but occasionally it can be something big.

Finally, the free spins feature also includes stacked wilds, which do not appear in the base game and are definitely a welcome addition to the format!
