Links Of Ra Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
No surprises here – Links of Ra is an Ancient Egypt themed slot, which is fast becoming something of a cliché in the online slots market. Let’s cast that thought aside though because games such as Book of Ra, Legacy of Egypt, and Cleopatra are all excellent slots anyway.The graphics used in Links of Ra for the picture symbols reminded us of the 1994 movie Stargate, givig it a unique feel amongst Ancient Egypt themed slots.Many games go for a quiet, ambient soundtrack during regular play – not this one. Every spin feels dramatic thanks to the epic background music.
Time to talk about the paytable, but the first obstacle was finding it! We tried the hamburger menu above the spin button – nothing in there. A second menu is shown in the top left corner of the window, but this just opens a help file for the game. Eventually we spotted a third menu, located beneath the spin button. Note to Slingshot: Why not put everything in a single menu? It’s much more intuitive for the player? The bonus coins present the biggest wins in this game, with rewards of 20x, 100x, 500x, and 2,500x during regular play. These figures are doubled during free spins. The next most valuable symbol is the scatter at 100x your stake, but things taper off quickly after this, thanks to the power stack mechanic which allows you to win on many betting lines at once. The wild pays just 25x your stake, and the next symbol down drops this to just 7.5x! Again, it’s all about the mods and features in Links of Ra.
The betting range starts at €0.20 per spin and tops out at €20.00 per spin, giving a spread of 100x. This seems fair considering the high variance of the Links of Ra slot game.
Base Game & Modifiers
The Links of Ra online slot features five reels, but uses four rows rather than the more normal three. Forty paylines are spread across this larger than usual reel area, and wins are paid traditionally by scoring 3 or more matching symbols starting from the left-hand side.
Note that Slingshot has given casinos a tiny bit of legroom with regards to the RTP in Links of Ra – there are two settings, the lower of which is just a little higher than 94%. Before starting to play, check the paytable to make sure you are playing the 96% version. Any casino that lowers the RTP of their slots is probably greedy in our minds, and whilst we wouldn’t discourage you from playing at such sites entirely, this is a strong indicator that there could be better places to play
Power Stacks Feature
Look out for the power stack indicator during both the base game and free spins – when this is in effect, the selected reel will be formed of all matching symbols. All symbols can be power stacked except for the bonus coins and scatter symbols.
Link & Win Feature
Whenever six coins appear on the reels during the base game or free spins, the Link & Win feature will activate. We are not sure how often this happens, but we played several hundred spins during testing and never saw this feature activate once, which was very disappointing.
Nevertheless, the paytable makes this sound like the best part of the game, as each coin can be worth up to 15x your stake. When the feature activates you begin with three spins, but this counter is reset every time the reels spin and a new coin lands, at which point it will link with the other coins on screen. If you are lucky enough to fill the entire screen with coins, you will automatically win the top jackpot which is worth 2,500x your stake. It is possible to win this multiple times too, as a single coin can drop with this prize attached to it! We’d really like to see this feature in action some day.
Links Of Ra Slot Free Spin Feature
As we’ve said more than once during this review, the bonus round is what Links of Ra is all about. Three or more scatters will start the feature, and you will also receive a prize of 1, 10, or 100x your stake for three, four, or five scatters respectively.
All wins are doubled during free spins, power stacks happen more often, wilds almost always drop in huge stacks, and the value of all coins is doubled. We think you get the idea – this is an exciting bonus round that can also feature both of the mods described in the previous section.
Keep in mind that all coin prizes are doubled too so that 2,500x stake jackpot is doubled to 5,000x during free spins, and yes, you can still win it multiple times. This is where the 25,000x maximum win figure quoted by Slingshot comes from. If you hit this amount, your bonus will be terminated prematurely, as the games payout limit is fixed at 25,000x.
Links Of Ra Slot Review Final Thoughts
On its own merits, Links of Ra is an amazing machine and one that we would recommend. The only issue is that it is almost a clone of the Game of Thrones: Power Stacks slot, and that game has one or two extra mods which make big wins seem a little easier to achieve. Because of this, we have to recommend the original Game of Thrones version over this one, but it’s a close call – Links of Ra is an excellent online `slot.
