Little Bighorn (Nolimit City) Slot Demo & Review

Game provider Nolimit City is a developer that is best known for its darker, more serious take on slot machines. Some examples of this would be “The Border”, “Road Rage”, and “Folsom Prison” – all great games that are sure to appeal to those who enjoy more adult-orientated themes. The developer’s next release, Little Bighorn, continues that trend; it’s a five-reel game, but the layout of those reels is extremely unusual and results in a strange 360 pay way design. The RTP ranges between 96.02% and 96.29% depending on whether you use the bonus bet and bonus buy features, whilst the biggest payout recorded from a 19 million round simulation was 25,676x the bet.

Nolimit City is also known for the vast number of features they pack into their games. Little Bighorn definitely has quite a few features, but nowhere near as many as the developer’s last release, titled The Border. There are special wilds that can only appear on certain reels; a “spirit call” re-spin feature, a couple of free spin bonus rounds, and the bonus buy and bonus bet features that Nolimit City includes in every game.

Time to don your axe, knife, and pistol as we return to the dangerous Wild West! When you are ready, our free demo slot of Little Bighorn is waiting for you.

Paytable For The Little Bighorn Slot
Little Bighorn slot paytable

I had a feeling that the title of this game would be referring to something I wasn’t fully aware of – it wouldn’t be a Nolimit City game without a slightly dark undertone, would it? Sure enough, a quick search revealed the Battle of the Little Bighorn, also known as the Battle of the Greasy Grass or Custer’s Last Stand. The armed confrontation took place in 1876 and resulted in a defeat for the U.S. military by the combined forces of the Lakota, Arapaho, and Northern Cheyenne tribes. Unfortunately, the success on the battlefield was not without consequences, and once the US army had licked their wounds and re-grouped, they soon returned to the promises made in the immediate aftermath of the battle. It’s quite the story – see the Wikipedia link above if you want to know more.

Back to Nolimit City’s Little Bighorn online slot now, and we’ll begin by looking over the paytable of the game. The highest-paying symbols are the wild and the chief, both of which will pay you 3.75x your bet for a full payway of five-of-a-kind. Next, a US army-looking guy is wearing a big hat and a moustache, and he will pay you 3x your bet for all five of his symbols. A more regular-looking Indian with a large medallion around his neck sits in third place, paying 2.5x your bet for a complete pay way, alternating back to another US soldier at 2x, and finally, another Indian with a return of 1.5x. Those payouts are more than a little concerning to me upon first glance – 3.75x is not much for the top-paying symbol, even if they do appear stacked on the reels. I guess most of this game’s RTP is probably tied up in its many features.

You can bet from as little as €0.20 up to a maximum of €100.00 per round, but be careful if you choose to make larger bets – you’ll need an enormous bankroll to avoid going bust quickly on a high variance game such as this.

Base Game & Modifiers

Win Up To 25,676x Your Bet In The Little Bighorn Online Slot From Game Provider Nolimit City
Little Bighorn slot base game

Regular gameplay takes place on a super-unusual reel set – the reels vary in height, starting at three-high on the left, increasing to four, then five on the middle reel, and then dropping back to three and two positions for the final two reels. Any “row” of adjacent symbols spread across this layout will reward you with a win, meaning that there are 360 unique payways across the playfield.

Xmount Scalp Wild

The so-called “Scalp Wild” only appears on the centre, five-high reel, turning all American soldiers into wild symbols each time it lands. After this, the American soldiers will begin nudging upwards until their heads are cut off – scalped if you will – with a 1x multiplier applied on each nudge.

Totem Scatters

The totem scatter appears on reels two, three, and four in the base game, as well as the Scalp Free Spins. Landing one or two totem scatters in the base game will convert them into expanding wilds, whilst those that land in the free spins will also add an additional spin to your remaining counter.

No Mercy Scatter – Spirt Call Respin Feature

The “No Mercy” scatter only appears on the fifth reel, triggering the spirit call re-spin feature. The “No Mercy” scatter will move to the first reel, and the re-spin will begin before the scatter transforms into a sitting bull, crazy horse, or two moon symbol. Each symbol has its own modifier, such as expanding wilds or multipliers.

Scalp Bet

For a cost of 50% on top of the regular price per spin, you can guarantee yourself at least one totem scatter on every spin.

Little Bighorn Slot Bonus Features

The Little Bighorn Video Slot Includes Two Bonus Features
Little Bighorn slot free spins feature

Little Bighorn has two main bonus rounds, each of which is triggered differently. Let’s take a look at these below in more detail and explain what you can expect from them.

Scalp Free Spins Feature

This feature is triggered by hitting all three totem scatter symbols during the base game. In this mode, each scalp wild which appears on the reels will increase the current multiplier by 1x, and the multiplier will remain active until the end of the bonus round.

Hitting any further totem scatters whilst this feature is in play will create expanding wild symbols and add one additional spin to your remaining counter. Hitting the no mercy scatter during this feature will trigger the re-spin feature and add two extra spins to your remaining total.

Spirit Call Free Spins Feature

To trigger this enhanced free spin mode, you will need to hit all three totem scatters simultaneously as the no mercy scatter symbol. The game will then award you ten free spins. In addition to all of the features described in the Scalp Free Spins section above, this mode will also:

  • Keep the “No Mercy” scatter symbol as a sticky symbol on the first reel.
  • Transform one wild chieftain into the sitting bull, crazy horse, or two moon symbols on every spin.

Bonus Buy

The bonus buy menu in Little Bighorn has three options; you can buy the regular Scalp Free Spins for 77x the normal spin price or the enhanced Spirit Call Free Spins for an eyewatering 490x the regular cost per spin. If you are willing to take a chance, you can pay 159.5x the normal bet for an 80/20 shot at winning the better free spins.

Personally, I’d be cautious with the latter two options – 490x is very expensive, no matter how good the feature is, and you are likely to come away without a profit on most feature buys. The first option for 77x your bet seems like a great deal, however.

Little Bighorn Slot Review Final Thoughts

Another solid game from Nolimit City; I really enjoyed playing this one, and I appreciated the fact there are slightly fewer features included here as well. The complexity of some Nolimit City games could be enough to put some players off, so I think it’s great that the developer has demonstrated they are more than capable of making a more straightforward yet great fun game with Little Bighorn.
