This is the first game I have reviewed from Backseat Gaming – I’m quite sure about that, as I’d definitely remember such an ‘interesting’ choice of developer name! Another interesting aspect of Lord Venom is its user interface – the sharper-eyed amongst you may already have spotted that this looks exactly like a Hacksaw release, and of course, this is not a coincidence. I’m not entirely sure how close the collaboration between the two developers was for this machine, but Hacksaw has undoubtedly provided the UX elements for Lord Venom as well as acting as the distributor of the game. The game offers 19 paylines, a 96.2% RTP, and a maximum jackpot prize of 15,000x the total bet.
The paytable promises a colourful and atmospheric jungle theme and numerous special features. The first of these is dubbed ‘Jungle Bush’, but it’s nothing more than a typical mystery symbol feature that will transform all visible bush symbols into a single item chosen from the paytable. The bonus symbols are a little more interesting, as these can award between 12 and 16 free spins depending on the number of triggering symbols. During the bonus round, the jungle bush becomes a tad more interesting as it can now reveal golden eggs with payouts ranging between 1x and 200x the total bet. In addition, a bonus buy facility allows you to purchase a set of free spins at a cost of 150x the normal price per spin.

Lord Venom Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Lord Venom is, of course, a venomous snake! No, that’s not an insult – he really is a snake of the same kind you would find in Snakes and Ladders or Elk Studios Coba online slot. Considering that Hacksaw was involved in the creation of this game, you’d expect it to be a well-presented online slot – whilst it does look reasonably good, everything feels a little bit ‘small’ when I played the game on my regular laptop. However, opening Lord Venom on my mobile and tablet revealed a much nicer-looking game – to my eyes, at least. It seems that many developers are focusing much of their energy on the mobile versions of their games nowadays, and whilst this is understandable given that it’s the largest section of the market now, it’s still a little disappointing for those of us who prefer to play on PC!
Moving on, lord venom acts as the game’s wild and offers its largest payout – 30x the total bet for a full payline of five of a kind. The tiger is next, awarding 20x your stake for all five symbols, followed by the elephant, which has a return of 15x for a complete payline. Finally, the frog and monkey share equal payouts of 10x each for all five of their symbols, after which we’re left with just the low pays. Instead of the typical royal symbols found in many other online slots, Lord Venom includes fruits for its low-paying symbols – oranges, blackberries, avocados, and dragon fruit are all in there, all sharing equal payouts of 2x the total bet for a five of a kind combination.
The betting range available in Lord Venom starts at €0.10 and maxes out at €100.00 per spin. Plenty of intermediate bets exist between the two extremes, although the options begin to thin out heavily towards the top end of the range.
Base Game & Modifiers
Slots that feature a 5×5 playfield are nothing new, but this setup is most frequently employed by grid slots rather than line-based games, as we have here. I would expect 19 paylines to be woefully inadequate for a reel set of this size, but Backseat Gaming has wisely chosen to mitigate this by having all of the symbols laid out in stacks rather than as singles on their own.
Jungle Bush
The jungle bush is a revealing or mystery symbol. Therefore, whenever one or more of these lands on the playfield, they will all transform to reveal the same symbol.
Lord Venom Slot Bonus Features
Bonus scatter symbols are present on all five reels, but you’ll only need three to trigger the free spins feature. A three-scatter trigger will award 12 free spins, increasing to 14 or 16 spins for four or five scatters, respectively
Free Spins
During the bonus round, the jungle bush symbol can sometimes reveal golden eggs instead of the regular symbols shown on the paytable. Each golden egg hides a multiplier value of between 1x and 200x, and their values are added to a global win multiplier that is kept until the end of the bonus round. This multiplier is then applied to all subsequent winning combinations that land on the reels, making a 200x golden egg extremely valuable indeed! Landing three bonus symbols whilst the feature is in play will add five more free spins to your remaining total.
Bonus Buy
If you’re not keen on waiting for the free spins to trigger naturally, why not take advantage of the bonus buy facility and go directly there? The bonus buy facility costs 150x the normal price per spin and also provides a very small boost to the game RTP – from 96.20% to 96.35%
Pros
- A well-presented game that looks especially good on mobile devices.

- Bonus buy is a little expensive at 150x – but still probably worth it!
- The base game would benefit from a modifier or two to break up the action in between bonus rounds.
Final Thoughts
Whilst I’m not convinced that Lord Venom is entirely up to the standards of a full-on Hacksaw release, it’s a decent online slot with a big jackpot and an exciting bonus round. Definitely worth adding to your list of new games to try during your next session!
